Listen: Senate, Nancy Pelosi And Florida discussed on WAOK Programming
"Peoples teaching the one, oh, three news and talk thirteen eighty w. Braces are being called right now. It does not look like Lucy MC bath will take that democratic seat over Karen Handel right now fifty two percent to forty eight percent. We've even got some closer numbers in that. But man, it is that it's been that type of night Ryan now. Yes, it has been Frank millions of Americans headed to the polls today millions had voted early. But with all that effort, we hope that the Democrats will maintain the energy. We did the Democrats did take control of the house. The Democrats did take control of the house in a big way. He had a big way and the Republicans will hold the Senate. Of course, Nancy Pelosi is up tonight, speaking of being victorious, and I mean, some of the things are going to be saved. That means universal healthcare will stay some of the other things will stay obviously, Donald Trump will not have a rubber-stamp anymore. Just to get the things that he wants looks like. All the things that he's gonna he was wanting to do. He's not really going to be able to do now. It is healthy Franklin. You have. Democrats in control of the house. And if it has to be Republicans in control of the Senate because there has to be some compromise. Now, we're going to see what politics ought to look like. Yeah, if it is done, right. The Democrats can blow this completely if they go too far and become too extreme. But if they show that they can govern the house, and they can do the enquiries and get some of answers. They've been trying to get out of this president in a very decent way. Two years is is going to get here really quick. And so they have an opportunity show that they can lead is a flip all of the chairmanships now belong to the democrat. Why do you think that even when you look at the situation that exists right now after tonight's historic election with the Democrats taking the house back? Why did? Why couldn't we have waited to do that supreme court vote? Does it was just it was you gotta give him a little more credit for being a little bit more crafty? This man's sped that process up. He has made two appointments to the supreme court ceiling. It's conservative bent for the next thirty years. And with beta Ginsburg, kind of saying she go hang in there. This next presidential election is going to be absolutely because I don't think she go pass a couple of more years, and he very well may have a third appointment if we don't do something quick day later, Dallas short and Florida voters voted to restore expel and voting rights with amendment number four, and what it means is more than a million people were regained the right to vote, and we're talking about, of course, black Americans were affected predominantly here. And I mean that's gonna be key in the next election in Florida because you saw the margins another million voters on the rolls. We'd have a different election in Florida. We probably have governor Gillam. So that's quite important that that most precious rights will be restored to individuals in that state. And so that's a big win. There are a lot of big wins across the board. Now government will operate the way it's supposed to with checks and balances instead of having one party in control. So again, this wasn't the the win that. Many expected, but it will force our system to work the way it was designed to me there will be bipartisan agreement on things instead of rubberstamps Garo. Greg's what do you feel that? We should have learned from this the Democrats specifically, what should they learn from this election? How to mobilize your base how to speak directly to your base and provide them with the amunition to want to go to the polls we had record number turn out in this election. But we have to understand that there were barriers put up there berries that are still up that we have to remove and it's about the long game. We need new blood new leadership. I'm hopeful the Democrats will make the right decision and not make Nancy Pelosi. Again, the house speaker, we need new blood. We need an energizing movement, and I think that needs new blood waters. I mean, I would love auntie, Maxine, I mean, there are other ideas as well. But I just think we need new leadership to drive the democratic. Party into a new direction. Let's talk about one thing real quick before we finish here right now. Of course, they are reporting with ninety five percent of the vote in Georgia. It does look like Brian Kemp will win this election. He is now at fifty three point three percent to Stacey Abrams forty five point eight percent. The key here is that she did not get the votes in places like savannah that she was supposed to get. She got the big counties in Atlanta metro, but the other black counties that she was expected to get. She didn't get enough vote there. It was very close. Even the ones that she did win. We're very close. And we've seen this time and time again since the Republicans took over leadership, you could it's same message with the last democratic nominee for governor. That is about two hundred thousand votes spread I will say this months ago. The Democrats have got to come over. And it did not happen. Don't appear like it's going to happen tonight. And so it's not just messaging. It's the Oprah should have gone to savannah. Well, we should have fought harder. When the purge begin the cross the cross check system, the taking people names all fifty three thousand held in abeyance. Jess. You know, people who will not allow to vote this systematic disenfranchisement, but probably the biggest game changer in Georgia was the doing away with section five of voters rights Zack where these changes in voting procedures. Do not have to any longer. Be pre cleared by the Justice department. We have no leg to stand on. So when the secretary of state or secretary or local election officials said we're gonna shut down polling places in rural Georgia. So there's only one place to vote and you have the drive nineteen miles. There's no real legal recourse. Okay. Other than run into corn. And sometime that does not result in a good outcome. Gentlemen. Thank you very much for towing the road with us tonight so long when real we got early morning. Yep. Great panel tonight. Frank great panel. Those who called in those who walked in and spent the evening with us at thank you so much for being committed to the cause of. Having your vote make a difference. All right, everybody. Have a good night. We'll see in the morning Franken in the morning on the people station v one zero three we give you back to Joyce little."
