Listen: Russell Wilson, Seattle And NFL discussed on The Herd with Colin Cowherd
"You can't Mitch Trubisky your way to Super Bowl Matt Nagy is as clever guys the league has in the end they couldn't win a playoff game. Because you've got a score I understand. But we also should look at trends in the NFL, right? How the Cowboys have been able to load up with very talented roster not having to pay their quarterback. Same thing with the Rams. How are they able to keep the Dax not close to Russell? I'm not. I'm not. I'm not saying that. I look I think Russell Wilson's. Great. Can I think Aaron Rodgers in Matt Ryan all those dudes? I I'm with you with Jimmy Jesus if healthy like, I think they're all those guys outside of cousins who doesn't seem to. Have it for the big game. Yeah. Those guys are all great. But even Tom Brady doesn't take top dollar. Yes. Because the guys that take it's hard to fill out. A rod. It is and less you kill it in the draft. And you have to draft really really well. And that was the secret to Seattle Seattle started this trend. Yes draft. Well, but they also had Russell Wilson under a rookie deal as a third round draft pick and that allowed them to build the legion of boom and to pay some dudes now you're not going to be able to pay guys like. Seattle is drafting by the way has gone down precipitously in the last three years. Haven't drafted a pro bowler in five years the draft the last two years actually been pretty good that defense that was a pretty good team last year considering what they had to cobble together considering what they had like my my issue with it is like look at trends in the NFL and the top paid guys. Remember GM's don't take the money that they save and put it in their pockets. They take the money that they save and they spread it around to their teams. And the teams that have the overall best talent bears. Have great talent. They don't have great quarterback. I'm not right Bisky doesn't have it for me. Yeah. But they're going to be there around the NFC playoffs for two more years because they got dudes everywhere, and they can take an and they're built to play in Soldier Field. We don't need a great quarterback. Yeah. It is the ultimate dilemma, you know, if you pay your quarterback a lot it's going to hurt your roster. But you gotta pay your quarterback a lot especially if you're on a division with good offensive guys and good quarterback. It's the ultimate dilemma and the NFL. I think Seattle little bit backed in a corner, but I would've done the same thing. But what if just what if somebody was willing to give you two? Round picks. You know, what just what what if somebody's willing to give you a now again, it becomes like the Khalil Mack deal. Where remember everybody was killing the Khalil Mack deal when it happened. But Jon Gruden saying look look all the guys we signed because we saved the money. And then we get the pick. Now, I wouldn't it. Now. I I was okay. Moving off Peyton Manning for luck for two reasons. One Andrew luck was a home run. Number two is Payton had lost a little heat gun. Go for a fourth neck surgery. I got Russell still four good years left. And I"
