Listen: Susan Collins, Jeff Jeff Flake, Senate discussed on Paul LaGrange The Home Improvement Show
"Susan Collins is the star of the Republican party and people are contrasting hurt to flake. Gentlemen children. Two. James? I mean, you actually have cinders out there who are deciding purposefully they're not going down late flake. You're not going to get caught in the moment light flake. You've got who was that two or hatch today? He basically told a bunch of women been screaming banshee grow up, and they saw just waved him off. You've got Lindsey Graham who who has been taken on protesters left and right. How did they get? How did we get here? Well last week last week ago today. Many Arizona's were just embarrassed beyond belief as the images of Jeff flake went out across the across the globe him cowering in an elevator. As a bunch of activists screamed the yelled at him. And look at me, don't look. Our voice of the year the phone line and ask women. If they'd like the way they're being depicted by by these liberals, did they do these liberal speak for them. Yeah. You had you had one of the protesters as a matter of fact, if you go to my blog at KFYI dot com. You will see we have a we have Orrin Hatch. You know, basically waiving off a bunch of protesters. I even have an interview the protests that he waved off afterwards is great is great theater. Here's what's happening though. You have you have Republicans that are no longer getting rolled did decided enough. But I gotta tell you. This is the year the woman. Okay, we'll go with that. Susan collins. She's the star. She's a star today. Why? Because she did something that Jeff flake didn't do she did something that that Mark housekeeping do. She did that Joe Manchin didn't do Joe. Manchin was weak as hell Joe. Manchin didn't say that he was going to give the yes vote until after Susan Collins gave her fifty minute speech on the Senate today. Come on man is that call leading from behind. I made a funny there. Susan Collins gave a very spirited passionate. A detailed defense. For Cavanaugh explanation of why she was going to vote for cavenaugh. And and as I was watching the first of like, come on woman, come out wanna get on with it. But then you like, whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. She's pulling the Republicans bacon out of the fire. She's she's not just providing cover, but look at the imagery. Here you have Susan Collins and just looking lovely is sort of a lavender suit. In two very powerful women sitting behind her. This was women folk on display at this is supposed to be the year the women this. This was not women as victims. These are not women looking like survivors. These are women of strength. Women of moral authority. And what Susan Collins did is she laid out the case for but we have to have rule of law. You are still innocent until proven guilty in this country. She went through judge Kavanagh's years of jurisprudence. She went through cases. She made the argument that actually cavenaugh is a moderate, which kind of freaked a whole lot of conservatives out except for the fact that this moderate a judge went through hell by at the hands of the left. So we're wondering what kind of impact on them as far as conservatism? But nobody is questioning his fairness. Susan Collins gave a complete and thorough defense. In reasoning behind her decision to back Cavanaugh now later on Mukasey came on and her you're hurt. Her speech was weak as hell and I mean week. For hurricane down. I just don't his, you know, his his temperament. When you compare it to address as it is obvious that that Macau ski was cowed into this. But Susan Collins. She was this was a well thought out and a very well crafted speech, Susan Collins from the floor of the Senate, this debate is complicated. Further by the fact that the Senate confirmation process is not a try but certain fundamental legal principles about due process. The presumption of innocence and fairness do bear on my thinking, and I cannot abandon them in valuating any given claim but this contract we will be ill served in the learn grand. If we Bandon the present of incense and fairness tenting, though it. Made the. Tempting the reason why it's tempting is because you have the mob on the other side of the aisle that are demanding that you are guilty until proven innocent. The mob on the other side. They have no cooperation they have no evidence. They can't even get their dates straight. You know coming from Mrs Ford, but yet they want to say that he's guilty and his vile. They want to say he's guilty of rape of sexual assault. And they don't care. There's no evidence produce, that's was frightening. And that's what Susan Collins said, I cannot abandon the presumption of innocence. That's brilliant. She went ahead to talk about. 'cause it Susan Collins the ones that went into the skip, and they read the FBI document, and after read that document, she had this to say, this is not a criminal trial. And I believe that the claims such as need to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt. Nevertheless, fairness would dictate that the claims at leaves should meet a threshold of more likely than not as our standard the facts presented to not need that professor Ford was not sexually assaulted that night or at some other time, but they do lead me to conclude that the allegations hail convene, they more likely than not standard, right? Okay. Didn't meet the standard. Susan Collins is one of the ones that believe there's something could have happened to sues to Christine blassie, floored. I happen to think that she's not I happen to think that she's not part of I don't believe her. But it's all right. Susan Collins does but she has a common sense to say, you know, what? These allegations fell to meet the more likely than not standard does nothing to base it on. There's nothing there's witnesses there that are backing away from Susan Collins went into detail with all of that Christine Ford Napper's the spotlight she indicated that she was terrified to appear before the Senate Judiciary committee, and she is shunned attention since then she seemed completely unaware of chairman Grassley offer to allow her to testify confidentially in California watching her Mr President. I could not help heal that some people who wanted to engineer the heat abyss nomination cared little if at all for her wellbeing abandon in the studio now. For about four hours. We were prepping for the show and you're over two hours into the show, and I can tell you this. I haven't seen one video recap of Susan Collins on CNN. See this is what's so brilliant. She spoke for fifty minutes any question that any journalists real journalists would they have to come right? They could address it right there. They're not doing that. No matter of fact, you've got the col- Wallace from from a MSNBC. Here was hurry official response to the Susan Collins speech because we all need a little chicken soup for political junkies. Salsa assistant Delamarre Lisa Murkowski. I can't handle Susan Collins. Let's listen to Lisa Murkowski saying I will not support him. This was brilliant. What happened on the Senate floor with Susan Collins today, was brilliant. And then she blew away this. She dashed all hopes and dreams. Of the radical left with this sentence. I will vote taken firm charge cabinet. Yep. I will vote to confirm. Touch Cavanaugh and that put judge Cavanaugh. Over the line. I should say that puts him on that. That ensures that he gets on the court if everything holds now we've heard that Jeff Jeff flake is a little bit squishy. He's back and forth. But even if Jeff flake decides not to vote for for cavenaugh, then it becomes fifty fifty. You get vice president Pence comes in and breaks the tie. But was incredible about this whole thing is we've seen the Republican establishment and President Trump come together to advance this nominee. We've seen the the party come together in a way as not come together thus far under the Trump administration. And it has a lot of people absolutely jazzed. Because now momentum is with the Republicans for the Senate and for the house votes. Volts coming up in just a few short weeks. The the the the protesters that they were a little bit confused. I want to get into a little bit of protests. I love making fun of the protests. So when we come back when we get here at six twenty six twenty some confused protests that I never did talk about the wheel of fortune thing because of a breaking news. So maybe we'll share a joke with the wheel of fortune contestant today who kind of stepped into politics accidentally it is fourteen minutes after the hour. You are listening to move talk five fifty KFYI time for eastside. What's traffic."
