This was the third of the The tenth Doctor Volume three-set so this is the third and final audio uh-huh so if you've been enjoying hopefully our little Tenth Doctor Adventures Volume Three little sort of marathon. As we've been hitting these once a month This is the third and final audio so written by Roy Gill directed by Kent Bentley whose directed the previous two. And of course David Tennant as the tenth doctor. Catherine Tate as Donna on a noble and some interesting guest cast Lauren Camellias who plays it. Clark she played a character named Max maxine Mitchell in the big finish eighth doctor audio island of offend doll. That came out. Pretty recently Theo Stevenson who played Terry Hopkins and was on the TV series. Humans The movie in Bruges and also the movie Fred Claus. That was the one with Oh shoot I can't remember the actor's name but look it up I'm trying to think of his name is Boykin on me Karen. Byu Who played Richard Cooper. He was actually on the doctor. WHO EPISODE TV episode? He oxygen where he played the character. Ivan in that story. Great so here. He's doing an audio character. US also play the character Arthur of Kendall Jackson and Berry in the fifth doctor. Big Finish audio. The Lady of mercy I which is a fun one with with Janet Fielding Teagan and He also was in the movie. Alien Versus Predator believe believe it or not which is kind of an interesting Trivia tidbits. Steven Steven crisslow played Malcolm wool shirts that you know the guy the vacuum cleaner salesman. He was the Earl of Wessex and professor fester in another big big finish audio for the fifth doctor. That The lady of Mercy Assia so we have to actors from that that that story He played a character Indian. Keith in the sixth doctor Big Finish audio the workplace Colin Baker One and also use on the TV series Downton Abbey interesting. Interestingly Enough Helen Goldwyn who played the dual role of Alice again the rather rich and spoiled else aken also the food food. GM which is a fun little name to save a food. GM She played the wax. Marie in Tom Baker Fourth Doctor Audio Adventure Gallery of Ghouls. She played treselle in an eighth doctor. Big Finish audio store warning which was the very first eighth doctor audio adventure for big finish which introduced Charlotte Pollard. A particular favorite favorite of mine and Professor Crane in were doctor audio adventure the shadow vortex and among bank. She's done a lot of other big finish audios but those are some of the highlights. So I thought I'd mentioned those there but She's a definitely a big finish veteran so Before we get into our main topics I got three topics to talk about Just what's your general thoughts on this one. So I thought this was a pretty good audio drama A Ah a few more characters than I normally like because you've got to keep the voices Straight but Well they kill off a couple of them. Yeah I thought it was really well done I like that you know as usual. The Tartus took them where they needed to go. Not where they wanted to go so they Missed it by a decade Where they were going to go? And we got a little bit of discussion discussion in the fifty s about an alternate alternate couples. Yes and alternate why stones which I thought was handled it very well and made for very interesting storyline. I like that a lot. How about you Charles? What'd you think of this one I enjoy this quite a bit. I think at the paintings really well. I love all the characters kind of get engaged with each other right off the bat and it makes for a very interesting interesting dynamic because they're all struggling to stay alive and they worked together And so it feels like a much more of an ensemble double cast audio. Yes he does really well and You know some interesting characters and You know like you kind of they actually developed the characters the new supporting characters a little bit give them their own distinct personalities and back stories and I and I think it's very solid story my opinion. Yeah I agree all right so without any further. Do Or. Don't take your pick Topic Number One. Let's talk about right off the bat the tenth doctor and Donna in in Their last audio adventure for now and I want to get your thoughts on the two of them. You know they're they're they're heading for seventy ebony nine hundred sixty seven swinging London only the kind of end up in the great smog of London in one thousand nine hundred fifty two and What your thoughts on on those knows whereas they kind of obviously ended up splitting up? The doctor ends up Meeting up with a young Usher at name Ivy while Donna encounters rather nearsighted. Young man named Terry Yeah really really a good storyline right. It's always always good to have Donna and the doctor back together I have been on record and I. I'm repeating myself but I think it's fair because I've often criticized Donna as a companion and I've learned to appreciate her a lot as as we re watch these episodes and I think I think they have a fun relationship and it is. Has It helped your appreciation of toad. Yeah totally I I really she is she is. It's hard to rate them. The morey Ori Learn to love the doctor. It is tougher to rate companions and doctors because each of them are so unique I think you have sentimental reasons. Like one of the reasons I love Martha is she was wearing of my first crushes as a companion then and then I really love Jay me You know as a companion absolutely you know You get the you know all the other companions. I'm right now Why am I drawing a blank to Tom Baker and Leila No. You're Ramona's nine yes. He'll the Surgeon Guests Ed. Jane thank you. I cannot remember Smith. I wanted to go bobby. Jean and I know that's a bruce springsteen song Yeah so they're all great but Donna. Ev You springsteen Gene Donna is unique. She brings a lot of You know this. There is no romantic between her which they do. They tend tend to do a little bit more during this modern era though. I think they've gotten away from that now and I'm glad So yeah and she just has a refund banter with the doctor. That's always fun so and they stepped right into it this on the Audio and and he actually makes a point at one point. I didn't write down the specific logs but he made they. Why do they always run away? They just are strays they. Just wander off any notice. What I'm glad you brought that up because if you notice it wasn't donahue wandered off? It was the doctor who wanted us. But that's and he's blaming the companion of course because it's never his fault right. Yeah Ver- her or her or her fault. Let's be current so every his or her fault young. This one was definitely the doctor wandering off because the doctor was curious and and So I thought it was really glad you mentioned that because that one jump right out at. I'm like wait a minute. It's not her fault. It's your fault told the setting of this story which is something I find very interesting. The Great Smog of London. This is something that big finish just cooked up for themselves. This is an actual historical event if if you've ever watched the Netflix series the crown you know that they devoted I'm a big fan of the series series. The crown the devoted entire episode to the Great Smog of London with Elizabeth Queen Elizabeth's dealing with that DOC particular crisis. And you know it wasn't a definitely affect a lot of people. A lot of people died from this As as has the doctor himself explains this thing was an anticyclone that it was like over the city of creating this inversion layer that trapped the smoke and apparently as the temperature drops it's People were reaching for their coal which was very prominent at the time to keep warm. They were using coal to keep warm. Which of course burning coal it kind of makes it worse so essentially it's like this kind of like almost like a big greenhouse effect and And you know it just created this rather toxic six that if you're especially if you're someone with lung issues or you know you're prone to to being vulnerable to this you. A lot of people died from it. So very serious stuff. I had forgotten that they did cover that. Yeah it was like the fourth thep assode. I assume of the first season maybe second. I think it was the crown. I think it was a sad if I'm not mistaken. According to over four thousand people died So they really really like there could be as many as twelve thousand dead here so this there they they mentioned that the official numbers that Earth kind of in contention debate. Okay if you will so So there maybe they don't want to publicly admit how many eight people actually died from this thing and I think I'm reading here. This was The Times Right Saying that Four thousand people died a result of it directly and then I think the."
