Listen: Football, Michigan, Ohio State discussed on After Hours With Amy Lawrence
"Verma college football standpoint for me here is Michigan state for verse. Ten big ten spot in the title game on the line. Michigan looking to get to the college football playoff in the Harbaugh era. You know, you could ever countdown urban Meyer got Dwayne Haskins. Not a good defense though. When you think Michigan and Ohio State, Saturday at noon eastern. What does the ultimate deciding factor in this one? I just think that the Michigan is just a a better football team. Now, they haven't been able to score like like Ohio State house, but their defense should limit and make some stops against that Ohio State defense. I think it's going to be a closer game. That people think I just don't know Michigan get score with them. And so they're gonna need to shut them down. So it could be a lot closer that people think I think Michigan finds a way to win. I think Jim Harbaugh has finally put the team together. And finally got himself a quarterback that can do the things he needed to get to the college football playoff. And I expect them to upset Ohio State. It hasn't been upset there the favorite. But I still think it would be an upset to go to the horseshoe. And do something that he hasn't done yet as the head coach, Michigan interesting. I think it's going to be a closer game than what people expect. But at the end of the day, I do take Michigan winning that one. That's going to be fun to see that defense. Really go up against Wayne Haskins. That's a fun match up. Yeah. I'm excited to see that people get lost in all this because I'll have spent so down and they've got so much chaos. Off with the urban Meyer and coaching situation bit beginning year, his the address on the sideline when everything goes back. Looks like he's dying to win the game gets over. It's like it's all this relief. You know, the idea that winning cures everything Africans as having the most prolific year passing at Ohio State ever. And he's in he's dropping in the Heisman watch. So that tells you kind of where this teams at and what has been able to do. So he's been pretty unstoppable and Michigan is going to have to be the defensive stop some or there's gonna be some questionable antics for the college football playoff. If they could have to pick Ohio State for one of those final four spots when we hit on the big twelve Texas should be Kansas, Oklahoma, West Virginia that was an awful loss for West Virginia last weekend, just a complete another choke job out thirty one fourteen than up ten with eight minutes to go, and they just couldn't seal the deal with Oklahoma, though, calamari exciting player to watch. This should be. Be a high scoring type of game that we always come to expect with the big twelve right? I guess, you know, this who knows this could be like sixty nine sixty three type of type of game. And I don't know. I'm not really interested in in and paying attention too much to it. I I don't think I think the big twelve is is out of the five power five conferences is the last to get into the college football playoff, even though for some reason, they have Oklahoma ahead of Washington state doesn't make much sense to me there. What does it make sense to you? Because I would put Oklahoma in front of Washington state. Just just when you look at it. But why does it not make sense? You just wonder because if they played each other Washington state would win because wash defense they could make at least a couple of stops where where Oklahoma state that's could never stop Washington state. So when you hear the the you hear moments every Tuesday night talk about, you know, we're we're we really think this offense is so dynamic, and when we think they you so much more because the defense that they play with his so bad. And I thought they were ranking these teams not not offenses and lack of defenses. And if you're gonna put a great team up there, then Washington state definitely plays. Better defense at Washington state was allowed an average of three point two yards in the fourth quarter teams do not score on them in the fourth quarter and they score finish games. Why should states the better football team by far? I think they should be either fifth or sixth in the country right now. But the backlog is not getting the attention that that that the other conferences are for whatever. Thirteen people that have made these decisions, and I don't necessarily know if I agree with them. Follow up on that. Would you expand the college football playoff because you're right. A Pac twelve champion has. No, Washington state has no shot at getting in the college football, playoff must've, all hell breaks loose. Right. Yeah. But tons of stuff after go rock for them to get in this year. I'm kind of glad there's not a maybe not glad there's an expansion. Just because I hate to be the fourth seat and have to play Alabama this year in a vacuum. I think Washington state's gonna benefit ton by finishing fifth in the country and going to the Rose Bowl probably playing in Ohio State team beating the blue blood in the Rose Bowl winning the Rose Bowl for the first time since nineteen sixty and I think that's going to do a heck of a lot more for that university. They're recruiting they're recruiting and everything like that. Instead of getting beat down by an Alabama team. Like any foresee Michigan plays Bama? They're going to get beat down at Ohio State, Oklahoma doesn't matter who's that four. It's just it's gonna be a bloodbath. So this year maintaining a vacuum moving forward. Yes. I think sixteen expansion would be great all five power five. Get in with an at-large, which what what would make everybody who thinks UCF deserves a shot of. Shot at the title in there at six give the person second team seats buys and and go from there and final one for Ryan leaf joins us right now on CBS sports radio. It just seems like from this conversation you expect the current top four to stick with Alabama. Clemson then also Notre Dame and Michigan if that's right. How do you see the college football playoff plan out? If we get a few weeks ahead of ourselves. Yeah. I'm interested to see the Clemson Notre Dame game Notre Dame's gotten better this year. And usually they kinda gone the other way where they kind of fully maybe receded a little bit. And I feel like they've gotten a lot better. So I think that'd be a better semi-final than most people probably give it credit for. I think Auburn Alabama destroys Michigan. And then I think the winter Clemson Notre Dame place, of course, Alabama Alabama. Beatson down as well. So fifteen in Alabama national champs, Nick Sabin coached football team from that university that we've seen his tenure. What is it like for you as a quarterback to see what to a chunk of law is doing right now? It's interesting. You know, it's always funny watching lefties when you're a right handed quarterback or used to be right and a quarterback just it looks awkward. He's just so accurate. He has a lot of trust. In those receivers the dynamic receiving core that he has been huge for him this year. I think too, but he has just been so accurate. He knows what he's doing. He he can read defenses. My only worry about him is that he gets beat up his knee. Something goes wrong where he's not capable of plane because that's always the possibility but out there on the football field. It's it's it's going to be very difficult for any opponent to contain what he does because he's just so dynamic. There's a media source right now Ryan leaf is on at Pac twelve network also FOX you could also catch him on the Pac twelve channel on Sirius XM. And then addition to be. L E V. Do appreciate Ryan leaf right there on CBS sports Radio Zet Gelb in for a law, Amy Lawrence. What is a Friday after thanksgiving right here on CBS sports radio coming up at the top of the hour. We got delve back into the football conversation. I'll tell you what impressed me the most from a big slate of Thursday football games. I will give you my top five teams in the National Football League. In order. I told you earlier here the contenders in the National Football League. It's the New Orleans Saints the Los Angeles Rams the New England Patriots the Kansas City Chiefs to the Pittsburgh Steelers. When we come back at the top of the hour. I'm going to rank those five teams for you. And we're also going to talk about the New Orleans Saints because it seems to me I will ruin the tease a little bit. The saints are going to be number one. So you have to stick around to hear what's going to be two three four and five and the saints number one because it's very simple. Drew Brees right now is the MVP the league this team only has one loss and even when they don't play their best football. And we've seen times this year where they win games that they shouldn't win games. But they find a way to get it done. And that defines the greatness. And what it takes to be a great team when you winning football game. When you don't play your best and we've seen that a few times this year from the New Orleans Saints watch the game you say this could be going down. This could be it. And they end up making the other big frown on their face afterwards because their wounds just rolling right now, and the super dome could be Rockin, and there could be a trip possibly to."
