"Welcome back John Tackes welcome back to stop everywhere. Thanks a lot Charles thanks again. Now is great great to have you back <hes> for those who foolishly aren't aware of this already John uh-huh previously joined us <hes> to talk the seeds of Doom <hes> classic. Tom Baker story here not too long ago a couple months ago and he's back this time to talk the previous episode the brain of more BS season thirteen thing for me. Yeah I just I noticed the trend. Why was kind of <hes> scheduled me? Episodes like <hes> isn't brain a Morbus the previous one with what we just talked October with John it is so that's all right okay topic. I like to do a William Heart Great. Yeah that'd be great so yeah we definitely will have you back because <hes> good yeah. It's it's not very often I get to talk with William Hartnell era so <hes> definitely all for that <hes> so yeah here at one episode one forty two. We're GONNA talk the brain Morpheus <hes> written by Robin Bland and yes that is a suited NAM <hes> essentially it was terrance dicks written by Robert Holmes and we'll get into that a little bit <hes> a lot of history without there's a lot of history with that I have some Trivia and I think you probably have some probably the same notes <hes> and and <hes> this was the fifth cereal of season thirteen the aired in nineteen seventy six <hes> starring. Tom Baker is the fourth doctor of course and Elizabeth's Laden as everybody's favorite companion Sarah Jane Smith and it's a definitely considered to be one of the classics of the modern era or excuse me the classic era and <hes> it's a very odd episode though and I came to talk about this with you so so before we get into that though John <hes> what he'd been up a two past couple months oh past couple months just got thanks to the exposure. The first time we've got more likes on the Ohio type forty facebook page excellent always does great. I not a whole lot of social media Mayenne but I do keep up with the with the facebook page a lot <hes> and I was pleasantly surprised to hear on the the episode Dolac that you had a <hes> a new fan right in from North Canton right next door to mass over here so exactly right by you know obviously the up there at the pro football hall of fame era area exactly and I used to live up in Medina so what's this you that's pretty close most of my my neck of the woods back in the day so that she can hit up the Ohio type forty and give you another like all the more <hes> Ohio representation the better as far as I'm concerned Buckeye always Buckeye state eight <hes> showing up so that's I'm always got. We've got four different <hes> four different large doctor who groups in Ohio the doctor WHO Society Cleveland and you've got the Ohio type forty of course doctor who Columbus and the Friends of the time Lord Down in Cincinnati. That's awesome so <hes> always glad to like I said always help support Ohio type forty so very very cool and <hes> yeah <hes> so while we were back on the subject of of <hes> Robin Bland <hes> months. We'll talk about this right off the bat here a little Trivia section as I'm guessing you probably aware <hes> their original strip. The script was written by terrance dicks using thing some ideas from <hes> his script of the doctor who stage play doctor who in the Daleks in the seven keys to doomsday of really long bridal and apparently that got reworked so <hes> <hes>. Do you have any notes of your own. I know what I've got but I'm Kinda curious about what you've got on this yeah the the initial idea that terrance dicks came up with was that a Moebius was at war with the time Lords and this was towards the end of it he was on his last regeneration and he crash lands on the planet Karn now he has a little robot servant with them that never made it to the show that was one of the rights and the the the only thing that could was that survived was his brain. His body was destroyed so the lower robot goes through Karn and takes bits and pieces author dead bodies and that's what ended up becoming more business body was all the pieces that he he came up with well when he when Dick submitted that script he went on vacation came back and Hinchcliffe said you know what we can't do the robot its way to over budget. We're going to switch to a mad scientists and eager type servant haven't and showrunner <hes> Philip Hinchcliffe by the way right so <hes> yeah after that <hes> he read the script. He said you know what I don't like it. I don't want my name on it. He said just put some who's could've the writer he said we'll put some bland. Pseudonym turned into Robin Land after all the Robert Holmes Rewrites Right which yeah it's IT'S A. It's a fun story yeah. It's it's interesting that <hes> yeah they they tried to contact terrance dicks for this but supposedly and <hes> for some reason that I don't think <hes> has come out at least not to my knowledge that <hes> we don't know why they couldn't get a hold all of him. What was exactly I we know he's traveling but maybe he was just like between destinations or what have you so maybe they just couldn't give get an actual? I mean because obviously this is way before cell phones. No there's no <hes> probably just maybe just didn't have any direct line of communication at the time whenever well he's traveling right and these are some huge differences to his original script. Yes they are. They're major rewrites and yeah apparently he was seriously Ashley pissed off about this. <hes> you know like he calls up <hes> Robert Holmes just lays him out and <hes> yeah obviously that's what leads to the pseudonym and <hes> also have here that <hes> apparently that robot character under was <hes> Yeah we essentially Solan Dr Solan was <hes> substituted for the robot right in this one and then and then obviously yeah we talked about that <hes> they reworked it so that <hes> you know we just had a different motivation of the mad scientists though so we got that all right <hes> but yeah very intriguing little trivia tidbit and <hes> a little behind the scenes drama obviously and if you notice there's there's as that's happened a few times on doctor who where they just they have these pseudonyms and for one reason or another usually writes <hes> they ended up coming up with these you know the the original rider has a problem with it and they have to come up with some pseudonym because they just don't want their name associated with it for whatever reason right it's just feel it's not here working right exactly in as a writer I respect that so I personally get it. Okay so guess cast our weather Trivia before we had into our guest cast. I should say no I can add to the <hes> as as we go on okay great all right <hes> so guess casts of course we have the Great Philip Matic as Mahendra Solan and he's had a lot of association with various areas of doctor who I've got here that year you he was <hes> Illich in the Croutons of Patrick Troughton story <hes> the warlord he got a really big role as the warlord in the war games patrons final story <HES> so that was a big deal and a lot of people probably remember him from that Fenner in the power of crawl the notorious episode from the key to time season and he also played Broccoli in the Peter Cushing Movie daleks invasion of Earth Twenty one fifty A._D.. So it's one of the few actors that's actually acted on the doctor who TV series and in the doctor who movies the Peter cushing movies <hes> the also played a character name Rag Kaban in the six Dr Her big finish audio adventure return of the croutons since many interesting that he was associated with another Proton Story and he <hes> he's notably for playing Victor Shafer on the in the Sylvester McCoy era <hes> <hes> seven Dr Big Fish audio master which is a personal favourite of mine. I really liked that is a good one yeah and <hes> <hes> so the thought that's Kinda interesting in depth so yeah one of <hes> one of our great <hes> <hes> recurring actors on classic Doctor Who and also it's nice that he was able to do something for the for big finish in the modern era which is great yeah. He did quite a bit quite a bit before we lost in two thousand twelve. It was definitely a loss fig. Fan would have been nice if we had got him. At least you know a small role in the modern era even even if cameo just to say thank you to the fans exactly but <hes> you know sadly that wasn't and to be <hes> but <hes> we also have Michael Spice as the voice of more bs and you may remember. We've talked about this not too long ago. He played the character Magnus correal in the talents talents a wing chi-shang the controversial Tom Baker era story and so I thought that was interesting. <hes> we had Cynthia Grenville as Merrin and Gilly Brown as oheka which I always kinda wonder is she an ancestor of Oh Hilo from the modern era. I tried to look that up. I just wanted to make I don't I don't think there's a direct action but it would be kind of different spellings exactly exactly so just oh yeah obviously similar names and <hes> yeah just probably just very coincidental but <hes> we it would be kind of cool. She was ancestor somehow. I'm not sure how they could do it considering all the sisterhood or women right but you know hey you've got that <hes> Elixir of life and you know life finds a way if you remember Jurassic Park so <hes> all right anything else about the guests cast before we move on into our main topics all well the someone's choices that they made before Philip Matic included Peter Cushing and Vincent Price. Oh I wasn't aware of that yeah that's it. They mentioned that on the on the D._V._D.. Extra era. If you watch that it's called getting ahead awesome awesome behind the scenes <hes> they mentioned that and I was just like I wonder how it would have been if either of those two actors would have had that role apart from filled matic but vincent price is obviously a I think everybody in their brother would love to see INVINCI- price on doctor who oh yeah at least once I mean I think it was under consideration for one of the doctors at some point if I'm not mistaken I think so I wanna say I want to say yeah. Tom Bake the fourth doctor. If numbs negative I could be wrong though but <hes> but yeah obviously he would have been fantastic <hes> especially if he was a villain and someone especially like Solan <hes> he would have been fantastic for that <hes>. Obviously you know the mad scientist. It's that's abby right up his alley. <hes> very classic war in the way and that's and that's one of the great things about the story is like if you're like a fan of <hes> of classic Sikora. Maybe maybe more like a like <hes>. Let's say like maybe a hammer horror typesetting <hes> <hes> just you know like or maybe even just a this the story of in particular obviously heavily influenced fluent by Frankenstein the Mayor Shirley Classic and <hes> obviously the movies <hes> and it <hes> it it. Just you know I it does have this kind of classic horror feel the production. Is it the way this is shot in lit it just it it it Kinda has that old classic universal movie type Vibe to it that those season thirteen in a nutshell shell basically the whole gothic got the core type <hes> type feel and a very newbury when he was tasked on designing everything for the for the episode very let's told him to look at some of the work of Antonio Gowdy and if you look up some of his work online there's a lot of lot of similarities so it does have that probably textbook probably heavily inspired by the movies of that of that genre and and it shows it pays off. That's probably one of the reasons why the stories so finally remembered by classic era fans all right <hes>. Let's go into may topics topic number one of course the fourth doctrine Sarah Jane and the fourth Dr Essentially Kinda gets <hes> brought by the time lords they kind of intentionally divert him to the planet Karn which he does not like at all. No we well. He's never ever a fun never fond of being manipulated by the time lords and it's one of the few times the the force doctor is in <hes> intentionally maneuvered like this and Sarah obviously she has her big big story line as <hes> because she ends up getting blinded half about <hes> an episode in for a couple of episodes and she kinda stumbles around and that's kind of like <hes> her little <hes> character character showcase so I want."
