A dead zone in the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland where algae blooms are sucking all the oxygen out of the water of been growing this summer AP correspondent Ben Thomas reports data from Maryland's natural resources department shows the dead zone in the Chesapeake Bay had grown to two cubic miles by late July that's about fifty percent larger than the average July dead zone over the past thirty five years the worst section includes the lower Potomac and Patuxent rivers and much of the bay from Baltimore to the mouth of the York river environmental scientists at the university of Maryland say heavy summer rains have washed waste water and agricultural run off into the bay producing the oxygen stealing allergy they warn it could harm the state seafood industry particularly crabs and oysters I'm Ben Thomas spaceport America will one day launch people into the stars from a remote spot in New Mexico a once empty hangers been transformed into a custom tailored headquarters where virgin galactic will run its commercial flight operations the interior spaces unveiled this week aim to connect paying customers with every aspect of the operation that means abuse of the hangar and the space vehicles as well as the banks of monitors inside mission control the company hype that as an unparalleled experience as customers prepare for what it also describes as the journey of a lifetime it's still going to be a while however before commercial flights take off for space as a small number of test flights are still needed.
