A gentle way a natural way to deal with pain like this using a technique called am F. my pleasure so I was thinking we could start by explaining to our listeners what's the meaning of my factual so my being a muscle and then fashion being the connective tissue between all of our cell structures dash is made up of collagen and elastin what I understand is that what happens is is maybe as we get older or if we're not very flexible the fashion it's kind of like sticky it gets kinda vessels and nerves collide through yeah if we stop moving close structures kind of glue themselves together become rigid and stuff and some mild Pasha release is working on trying to improve the elasticity of about factual tissue so that sounds like another really good reason real basic reason for keeping your body moving and doing exercise and so forth right and you know it's one of those things that it's an interesting coincidence that not moving can result in factual tightness or moving in correctly or in a highly repetitive movement can also create factually Whedon's also like in a cyclist for example they're kind of flux over their bike and they'll be Stachel patterns of movement that they're going through the tend to tighten up their hip flexors much like sitting at a desk are hip flexors tend to tighten up the Stachel because she's that surround the muscle the joint capsule the ligaments structures in and around our help so activity can create it as well as in activities so it's kind of finding the balance between the two that's the the tricky part I'm thinking carpal tunnel to the samples that Sir we're thinking the same thing I was I was going to ask that yeah so the carpal tunnel is made up of ligaments structures in the bones of the rest and then the tendons and nerves come through that tunnel indoor hang out so for doing in some type of repetitive activity like keyboard work or if you run a jackhammer for example that would tend to put this repetitive stress patterning imposter in not carpal tunnel which then shortens not inserts compressing on the median nerve which is where we get the numbness and loss of function in the hand if you're just joining us I'm Roy walk and ours and I'm Judy Brooks and we're speaking with rob compared ski from body concepts and we're talking about the healing benefits of a body work technique known as myofascial release MFR to rob what would a typical MFR session be like now I know that for our listeners can you just walk us through that sure so there are different styles of myofascial release but what we do is and Barnes technique of myofascial release so usually talk to the client about you know what kind of issues there helping we kind of take a look at some posture we look at where are the eight he gins are in the factual system and then we work very gently to allow the body to release that tension so a lot of times if you think about plastic grocery bags to take both ends of that back and give it a hard jerk it doesn't really change its shape that much but if we take both ends of that bag we put light pressure on it but we sustain it for a longer period of time the classic actually starts to the foreman stretch but often times how we approach myofascial release was going lighter that holding the stretch for a longer period of time to allow the factual tissue actually elongate what we call creek in the tissue to attain more mobility that's when I noticed in what I really liked about it was it was very gentle your movements are very gentle and then just maybe holding for a little bit holding a pattern that's which talking about right now right right so what we specialize in is the more gentle and just allowing the body to let go of the tension within the body allow it to be pain free as we're creating the stretch what I noticed also was that even though it's very gentle why you're doing it you still like the next day you still feel like you might have had a massage or you might have had you know some work done you feel that something has shifted right it's one of the things that most people say in our first session is like doesn't feel like it did anything but when they have them you stand back up after the session and they feel this lightness in their system or the next day just like any type of body work we highly encourage you know getting some extra hydration into the body to help with new movement that's fair and to keep moving through the next twenty four hours forty eight hours to allow that new links in the fashion that to be able to be maintained so what are some of the reasons people come to you for and that far well I mean so far this yeah I mean I know it does that you know if they're going well how could that help me right so it's mostly about attaining Postrel positioning and the ability to move at a better pattern is what we work with a soul you know in this day and age we spend a lot of times setting and so hip flexors on the front of shoulders tend to be very tight and Steph so we work a lot from Postrel standpoint with people to help open up those areas that are very typically tight or five an athlete that needs to be able to elongate further or to perform better in their sport to increase their efficiency we will work with an athlete as well especially with athletes because they're doing a lot of repetitive movement within their sport it's being able to open up the opposite side and that tends to be short it's both for discomfort you know someone feeling stiff and sore you can open that up or it can be you know geared towards optimizing performance so what would you say that by Sir gently releasing the faster you're you're kind of unwinding the body so it can heal itself yeah and in fact there's a particular technique we use in miles Asha release called unwinding where we support what's fair for shoulder we support the arm we kind of put it into a zero gravity scenario and we let the body discovers own on winding so it will go through some type of a pattern a lot of time to look through the pattern of what the injury mechanism once in the body comes up on wines itself and kind of figures out how to allow that issue to open up return to a normal pattern of movement again very interesting experience came out from both ends I added that I've done it with people and I've had it done to me and asks for nominal in the effectiveness of a leading the body figure out its own passed out in a house of the surplus we are assisting the that learning process we're not creating the movement we're just assisting the body to find its own way out of an injury how long does it usually take for the clients to see and feel a difference I can be with them you know the first session they're gonna start noticing the difference well that depends on how long the pattern is down there well she's been seven of the us for thirty years you know it's gonna take a little longer to get full hit mobility for example but if you you know trips and scanned the knee it might take one session and you're good to go so it depends on the thickness of the layers of how those Fassel tissues of glued themselves together and how long that takes but usually when we start a stretch it takes about ninety seconds to start healing the lengthening of the tissue we're out of time that this is been very informative I can't recommend it more highly than I had a few such I did and and I really enjoy them and I felt a
