"I'm joined by my normal co host. Evan Burchfield and my Powell all in longtime PODCAST Coast Gino Thomas. We're talking about the Falcons impressive twenty six to nine win over the saints in week ten Aroo were the saints in. NC SOUTH THEIR FIRST NFC SOUTH GAME INTO WAR ORLEANS It's really. I'm still sort of stunned by. We're going to talk talk about the defense in this half of the podcast so Evan. I'm going to start with you here. This was something I think for Falcon Spans coming into this game. The the saints had arguably as they usually do one of the best offenses in league with drew brees at a future hall of Famer. Sean Sean Payton. The you know the man who sold his soul to the devil for a good offensive. Playbook and the the Falcons defense which was one worse than League coming into this game absolutely shut them down. I mean it if you look at drew brees you know. He had thirty two for forty five for two hundred. Eighty seven yards no touchdowns. He didn't throw a single touchdown. Alvin Kamara four carries twenty four yards. Michael Thomas Thirteen receptions for hundred yards but no touchdowns a what was your takeaway. Evan from this Falcons defense and what they did on the road especially given the fact that this was a defense that coming into this game was one of the worst in the league. Yeah I think I mean obviously the big monster dating tasting jared had really stood out. You know the big measly guy he technically. I would have marked it as three six. But he's got two and a half because he kind of whipped breeze down in Vic Beasley touched his helmet guessing perhaps big Iran Of his own Adrian. CLAYBORN had attack Campbell had I think that's like six total sacks which we went a couple games without a sack so it's bizarre but I'm glad they finally decided to show up in a game like this. I think what really stood out was how the saints basically I have You know obviously watched a lot of saints game this year based on this game alone. They looked very one dimensional in. I don't know if that's because our defense was elite. Today or what because Kamara was nonexistent like you must forget he was there like you said four carries twenty four yards. That's insane Latavius Murray. Who has stepped in for mark because he was out for a couple of games with injury latavius Murray had more carries? He had five carries but he only at twelve yards So you're terrific job. By the Falcons run defense defense in as you mentioned brees threw the ball thirty two times. Michael Thomas had thirteen receptions for one hundred and fifty two yards but nobody else really did anything for him. Kamara Mara. You know he did catch eight balls for fifty yards alike I mean tiered. Cook was their next highest receiver. If anything the saints should be nervous because today pretty much showed that they can't force Michael Thomas the ball you know. They always mentioned how many receptions he has I think he's. He's like the the fastest through nine games. A two eighty one receptions or something in the third quarter which is like a record But I mean that's cool but you got your ass whooped like you're able to force it's one dude the ball the whole time and get a w. we credit to our defense but they are bad and they showed up today. You know I it was. I mean it was amazing and the saints. Have you know you can ask people around. The League probably wanted a better offensive line. So you know tremendous job by the defensive line and and I think it's an argument that's been had lately while people are talking about. Draft draft picks is what's better focusing on the secondary or for the pass rush and I think the pass rush you know and the run defense certainly helped the secondary today because out of the gate I mean there was there was some struggles but the secondary the overall played very well. I thought Gee I've been made some great points. The whole secondary versus the pass rush Seemed almost irrelevant. Today we were without Desmond. True true fought was out. He was not even active for this game. You Have Isaiah Oliver and the Kindle Sheffield too young guys in the secondary who arguably played really really good for this game ignore the stats and you sort of have look at the performance. What was your takeaway from this defensive? and May this defensive performance and maybe some of the takeaways were that may falcons fans can think about going in the twenty twenty Liam beyond so one thing that I think is that we need to touch on is the fact that Dan Quinn did a couple of changes on defensive side of the ball this week off. The heat from wide receivers coach over to the backs in Morris comes from a background of defensive coach and he played safety he when he was still playing has coached Defensive Act specifically at obviously has a lot of experience even as a head coach but Moving him back over to to the to the secondary and specifically asking him to focus on communication. I think health than I think that one thing that It's it's it's worth mentioning as that it. Secondary Play really has a very significant impact on the pass. Rush if you can't the then if you can't cover long enough to give your pass rush time to get there like I remember years ago. This was probably two thousand fourteen or so talking to desmond profound about this. And he's like what they're asking me to cover for ten seconds because the pass rush couldn't get home and that's not how the thing that you're not going to see results looks like we saw today with that but I mean the secondary really did way better and it gave the pass rush time to get home and so. I think that I think that quint and serves to be commended or making those changes. Now I think that when you're looking at an NFL head coach and obviously there's gotta be some ego on fall there so for him. Am to have the humility to say. Okay we'll this isn't working so I'm going to shift things around I'm GonNa let. Jeff Albrecht the linebackers coach essentially take over as defensive coordinator. And I'm going to move. where he Morris who's done a job with the right receivers I'm gonNA move him to work with cornerbacks because I think he can help get them up to speed? I think we saw the results is also that today. I think that I think that Quinn does deserve credit for making those decisions because like I said let's not easy to do as a head coach So yeah I mean. I think that those were two big factors. I've been really impressed with Oliver's development and I think he's done yeah I don't yell. God Damaged Field Mary much so yeah I mean I it just was but let's talk about this just for a quick second second. The Falcons had seven sacks coming into this game and they had six today. So let's just discuss it like I just WanNa put that out there and revel in it that what is these liked his face every time Greg Jarrett was coming up. Metal look like Grandma's name Emoji what I'm of truly six sacks ex- devinder Campbell had one big beasley one and a half Grady Jarrett two and a half again for the fans out there who interacted with me on twitter twitter earlier in the season. That grady was overpaid. You can piss off. This man is amazing. He deserves every penny he got. And this game. I'm was just another emphasis on that. And Adrian clayborn added that additional fat to take us to six gene. As you mentioned I do feel like to add my two cents Dance Kendall Sheffield had a very strong game and I'm curious to see what you know. Pro Football Focus says about his game but he played really well he had the one really nice pass break up towards the middle of the game that ended when the saints drives were set. Set them up for a third long. He has slowly been developing in his rookie. Season and again corner is one of those positions in the NFL. That takes wile to develop. There are a lot of guys that it's year three year four before they really show their true selves in the NFL. And I think fan fan should be excited about what Sheffield has shown just early on in his rookie season and even having started at the beginning of the season he really. He has just been inserted in the past several weeks. He's shown a lot in June. You mentioned is a Oliver feel like fans have been piling on for him. But he's been fantastic against stopping the run and tackling. He has been one of our more sure tacklers and I feel like his coverage has gotten even better. I want to see where these guys go. In the second half of the season going again into twenty twenty and what it means for the future of the team but one thing I want to posit is it to both of you. Is this conversation about Dan. Quinn because gene you sort of mentioned that in your synopsis of what happened with the defense. It's Dan Quinn obviously is on the hot seat arguably this game gives him a little bit more time than what he had coming into. It can when you see a scenario. Now where if he repeats this performance where he has made some tough decisions where he has moved guys around on the coaching in south He is swallowed his pride if you will in being the defensive coordinator in his turn that over. Jeff can you see a scenario. Potentially where the Falcons finished strong end win retains his position as head coach. Jean I'll start with you at tough question and I mean me and look fans aren't going to like what I'm about to say but honestly it's not my job this all. You want to hear if Dan Quinn is able to make these if they're able to play like this consistently over the end of the season the players love him. Arthur blank has made it very clear that while Quintas on the hot seat that he is is going to give him as much as he possibly ends a turn. This allow if the Falcons can turn around and I feel like I can already envision the mentions since I'm GonNa get from this lead odds gonNA mess up. Our draft has Like owner. I am fully aware. I'm not saying that I endorse the idea that I think it's the the right thing to do. But all I'm telling you are the facts behind this arthur blank understands the players. Love Dan Quinn. If you think that the Falcons performance today you didn't have a whole hell of a lot to do with this team not wanting Dan Quinn to be fired. You are out of your damn mind. They are stepping up in part because of that.."
