The I heart radio app this the Tim Conway judicial Kelly in for ten the twenty is almost here and of course with every new year we have to talk about some of the new laws which are going to impact you and me okay alright here we go here we can we have this discussion already yes we did and we ended it and I was right we just leave it at that in twenty twenty Michael closure yes Sir it's gonna be a lot of changes across guns healthcare education gonna go through a little bit of everything including criminal justice let's start with guns employers co workers and teachers will be able to ask for a gun violence restraining order against a person beginning in September no longer leaving the gun seizures only to families and law enforcement let me give you some more specifics if a judge agrees one your gun seizures from those who are thought to pose a danger to themselves or others could be extended annually for up to five years that you may remember only Californians age twenty one or over will be able to buy a semi automatic rifle and starting in twenty twenty one all Californians will be limited to buying one of the rifles per month in addition a person banned from having a gun in another state can no longer legally possess one in California I'm quite sure that's all going to inspire all sorts of debate in the new year I'm just letting you know it's coming it's here it's the law in California starting twenty twenty in health care state officials will create a new standardized form doctors will fill out for parents who want a medical exemption from vaccinations for their children doctors will be required to use that form and parents must submit existing exemptions to the state in twenty twenty one doctors with five or more exemptions written after January first of twenty twenty as in you know soon as the new year starts will have their actions reviewed by the state so they can't just do it **** nilly they can't do it for anyone and everyone there will be a numerical also a ceiling on what they can do or they will come up for review as far as birth control women seeking birth control pills through apps such as the one offered by plant Planned Parenthood will no longer have to participate in video conferencing with a health professional for a prescription I'm not sure what that means that you don't have to get a writ prescription or you just don't have to participate in the video conferencing or both that kinda reads funny food handlers will be required to take training on major food based allergens those who seek a state issued for hammer card will have until the end of next year as in twenty twenty to do so the law was prompted by the case of a Sacramento area girl whose peanut allergy unfortunately led to her death at a summer camp back in twenty thirteen in the field of education still school districts will have more power over the creation of new charter schools in their communities and new teachers at these charter schools will be required to hold the same credentials as those in traditional public schools here to for you may remember that some teachers and charter schools no right or wrong they did not have the same credentials in many times it was easier to get a job at a charter school as opposed to a traditional school within the school district and with the requirement being phased in over five years for existing teachers so another words if you are already a teacher at a charter school you too will have to come up to speed as it were and get the requisite credentials to remain in your position children whose parents have unpaid school lunch bills won't be denied access to at least an alternate meal selection and can't be shamed or treated differently than other students I'm not exactly sure how they're going to enforce that is far shaming are treated differently students up to fifth grade can't be suspended for disrupting school activities or willful defiance effective with the school year that begins in August let's stop right there I'm going to say that again students up to fifth grade can't be suspended for disrupting school activities or willful defiance I don't understand that and I say that as a kid who suspended prior to fifth grade I don't understand what then are you supposed to do with the student who was willfully disruptive defiant in a classroom environment are you supposed to keep the child very supposed to keep the child in the office for the whole day you can't send them home you can't send her home what are you supposed to do I understand why they want to try to do this and as the child of two educators I just don't see what the alternative is or how this actually addresses the problem or lessons it sixth seventh and eighth graders will also be protected from such suspensions for the next five years what are we supposed to do with these bad **** kids then you can't suspend them I understand where you might make the argument that you can't expel them because they need to be in an education environment but there has to be some sort some sort of response if you will some sort of consequence two students were acting out so if you're not going to spend on it what are you gonna do you just gonna leave many environment still throwing rocks at the teacher stills throwing a spinning spit balls at the teacher and we see in the videos of how it has gotten violent in many schools between students and teachers on the grade school level if you're not going to suspend them what tools then are available for teachers and administrators to not only protect the teachers but to protect other students this is going to backfire and they're gonna be a lot of incidents which we're going to have to talk about here on KFI and beyond in California for the year twenty twenty on the job business is planning to use independent contractors will be subject to new restrictions on the situations in which they can do so and more those workers will now be considered employees this is a direct result of that uber lawsuit is far as with the going to be ten ninety nine contract employees a weather going to be actual full W. nine employees the minimum wage as we were kind of alluding to when we're talking about homelessness earlier the minimum wage in California goes up by a dollar large employers must pay at least thirteen dollars an hour while businesses with twenty five or fewer workers can pay twelve dollars an hour the minimum wage will peak at fifteen dollars an hour in twenty twenty three in that time hopefully you can get a better job than minimum wage employers can no longer require current or new workers to agree to arbitration as a condition of having a job loss currently being challenged in court by the California chamber of commerce California to take out payday or installment loans of twenty five hundred to ten thousand dollars will see interest rates capped at no more than thirty six percent thank goodness because that was ridiculous thirty six percent is ridiculous even twenty nine percent on credit cards is ridiculous but you know if you're in a desperate spot and you're taking out a loan and they're going to charge you upwards of forty percent or more you'll never pay that loan back because you're already in financial dire straits but that's the whole point that's how they get you and that's how they keep you that's also compared to the much higher rates some of these consumers often with few other ways of borrowing money have paid in the past that's how they end up with these payday loans because banks more times than not won't even loaned them the records of money that they need to get out of that specific situation be a short term or long term and also food service workers must wear gloves made of something other than latex which causes allergic reactions in some customers what is supposed to wear like leather leather gloves then we're like I don't know what it what is the meat of concrete what other gloves can you wear them like latex as far as handling food Michael closure I'm trying to think well on paper mache they don't all have to be latex do that give it some growth are not latex because of HRG Robert yeah than rubber rubber a thin rubber okay maybe that's it then this seems like I are both rubber with you Mike is more porous in nature item now it's time I'm not going to wash your hands yeah that too that too but I would rather have gloves on the hands you could you wash your hands then pick you know that if you come back all right me you can do that no no no no no up one day outside the store my wife used to work for a business which will go from restaurant and restaurant to tell them how to get the requisite make make the requisite changes to the get that a in the window right and tell em this is against the law you can't do that you can't have food on the floor you're supposed to have you got the the workers were this that the other and so forth all the stories all my goodness you don't want to know what goes on a restaurant you just don't want to now yeah because you won't be able to eat there anymore more on the new laws in changes which are coming to California when we come back this is the ten come we junior show well Kelly here KFI am six forty Michael close with the news LA metro Orange County transit Long Beach transit are all offering free rides for new year's eve a federal court says it's going to block a Republican proposal requiring photo ID's to vote in North Carolina and Heineken giving away free.
