Story. Here's Jeff Biggs. Welcome back to sports Sunday on NBC sports radio. I'm Jeff Biggs pleased to be joined by our quarterback here at the network. My man Mark Malone kind enough to join us here on game day, Mark. I can't wait for tonight the Sunday night showdown on NBC from Foxborough but coming up here nine early games highlighted once again by the Steelers who are at Cincinnati, Mark. We talked about the Steelers last week. They responded at home by dropping forty one of the falcons. What did they show you in that game? And what about the Bengals off to a 4._0._1. start? Well, let's take Pittsburgh. I Jeff I thought that they had a little bit more balancing their offense. James connor. I thought had his best game of the season. Been a big band has never shied away from throwing the football. But I I don't know that you can win consistently the way that team is built by throwing the ball fifty times game. So I liked the ballots in that offense that has to continue against Cincinnati today. From a defensive perspective. They've made a few changes defensively both in personnel. And the way they've gone about calling the defense tried to simplify a little bit more that has eliminated some of the big plays. And when you have AJ green on the field, for instance in Cincinnati. That's that's going to be job one. I like this Cincinnati off to a foreign one start. But it's been my experience every time that you liked them. And you jump on that bandwagon. That's when they tend to lay an egg. Pittsburgh is his hand. Lot of success in Cincinnati. It's division game. My guess is that it's going to be a barn burner of a game. If I had to pick. I'd probably take Pittsburgh and a very close game. And clearly, given the, you know, the slow start off two of these division games. Now become extremely important for Pittsburgh. So I would imagine that they'll be ready to play in this one, no doubt. And Mark staying in the AFC north. I didn't see the ravens being held to just three field goals in Cleveland. Hey, but you know, what props to the Browns? They finally got. A big kick of their own to win that game in overtime. And they have another big home game today. Matchup and the dog pound with the chargers. Yeah. This chargers team. Nobody's talked about this chargers team. Which is interesting. I mean, Philip rivers is played at a very high level. You've got Melvin Gordon out of the backfield. You've got Keenan Allen who is one of the better pass catchers in the league. And they've done all this without Joey Bosa when Boso comes back. I think it'll make that defense even better in speaking of defenses. Listen backpack. Cleveland Browns defense has played at an elite level so far this year. Greg Williams has done a terrific job over there. They've got to they've got to find a way to get a little better in the kicking game. Clearly because that is is haunted them. I mean, you could argue without stretching it too far this Cleveland team could actually be five and Baker Mayfield. Continue. I think to to play at a good level where he doesn't turn the football over. He's he's extremely accurate. Sometimes he's a little too bold with the football. But I like this football team. I think the rosters got much better than it was a year ago. I think they will have their hands full with with San Diego who from time to time doesn't play particularly well on the road. So this one is one of the must watch games for me this weekend. Mark Bologne is with us here on NBC sports radio. Getting ready already for weeks. Six Sunday in the NFL Markham also curious to see what kind of game we get today at MetLife with Sam darnold and the jets after the blowout win over the Broncos hosting Andrew luck and the colts. Yeah, I don't know how to figure this game out because this this jets team is a bit of an enigma to me. I get it that you're gonna have ups and downs with with a rookie quarterback like Sam darnold. But I thought he played well last week they've got to continue to run the ball and try to insulate him as much as they possibly can. I've been a bit surprised with the up and down play the defensive side of the football. Todd Bowles is a defensive specialist, and I I would like to see them play at a much higher level, which would give darnold, you know, some breathing room so to speak. So we'll see where this goes again. I think the jets are making moves in the right direction. I think the roster getting better, and despite the record itself, I think Sam darnold has shown to be a guy that is mostly. Likely going to be their franchise quarterback for the next ten or twelve years. But. Again, are they going to be a are? They going to be. One of those teams that figures in the AFC east, probably not. But I think they could probably win seven games this year without any problem. All right. And we have kind of a contender or pretender matchup in Miami. You've got the dolphins who've now lost tuna row after that three star taking on the bears who are coming off their bye week after that tremendous performance by Mitchell Trubisky who threw six touchdowns against the bucks. It's funny. Big obviously, I lived in Chicago and worked there for several years, and I've got a lot of friends back there. And everybody's talking about Trubisky in the performance. He had six touchdowns. And I'm like, hey, wait a second. You don't need. Mitchell. Trubisky to throw six touchdown passes for you to win football games. Clue. Mac is transform that defense. He's I think the best playmaker on the defensive side of the football through the I certainly five weeks in the NFL. And I'm sure he'll continue to be a force to be reckoned with you've got a lot of offensive weapons on the Chicago side of the football. So you need Mitch. Trubisky to manage the game. He can't turn the football over. He can be you know, even average on third down to keep that offense on the field. I think this is a football team that if they don't sustain any major injuries going down the road. Given the way the NFC north is played over the first five weeks of the season this football team that I think could be in the conversation come the end of the year when we're talking about division championships under center during the week on with us right now, Mark below with us on NBC sports radio. All right last couple before I let you go. We've got three late games in the afternoon and kind of another put up or shut up game in Dallas get the Cowboys hosting the Jags big game for both. Yeah. Big game for both. Listen jacksonville. I you know, despite giving up thirty points. I mean, Blake Bortles turn it over five times against Kansas City that can't happen. And my guess is Doug Marrone will do everything in his power to minimize the throws that Blake Bortles has. I looked on the film of that game last week. And I was just it was it was it was embarrassing to watch the McCann. And the footwork of one Blake Bortles who I thought had Hannah cleaned a lot of that stuff up. He has not played. I didn't play particularly well last week that defense is still really good and facing a football team. It is in Dallas built around Zeki. Oh, Elliott where you know, if you're going to win a football game. He's got to touch the ball thirty times. I thought last week the Houston Texans did a really nice job of kind of minimizing his effect on the football game. And putting the game back in the hands of Dak Prescott. Who I think is a nice quarterback? But if you're going to ask him to throw the ball thirty five or forty times a game to win without receiving crew. It's not it's just not gonna work. So I like Jacksonville and this one I wouldn't surprise me if they win by ten or more points. All right. And lastly Mark tonight Sunday night football on NBC the marquee match up the patriots hosting the undefeated chiefs. Is you get telling you this is going to be a shootout or could we see a little defense? Well, I don't I mean, neither of these defenses are grain. I mean, you look you look at what Pat Mahomes has done. He's been nothing short of spectacular. He did not throw a touchdown. Last week and through a couple of interception. So apparently, he is human beyond that you have to ask yourself a question. Jeff is this guy rookie or not? I know it's his second year, but it's noxitril year as a starter. And if you could just go back and look at rookie quarterback's for instance, I think Bill Belichick is twenty five and against facing rookie quarterbacks in his career in New England. So he's got the week to prepare for Patrick Mahomes. Do you stifling completely probably not? But who's gonna make more big plays in this football game? Or or fewer mistakes, Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes. It would be difficult for me to to bet against Tom Brady and this one when you say shootout, it wouldn't surprise me. Both teams scored in the thirties. I don't know what the over and under is. But it's clearly the best game of the weekend. And I'm looking forward to sitting down Sunday night and turn it on NBC. And watching that one. With with a glass of scotch and a cigar. Right. Absolutely. Like, I do every night, my friend. The over under by the way is fifty nine and a half points. Yeah. There you go. So both teams scored in the thirties would not surprise me at all on that one. All right. Well, enjoy the day today week six in the NFL is here. Enjoy it Mark. Thank you for the time is always and will listen for you tomorrow. Busy by pleasure. My Brennan joy. All right there. He is our quarterback. Mark Vallone with us here on NBC sports radio. Some great matchups on the scheduled today. The nine early games are underway. And we already have our first points on the board in Atlanta. We really do. I promise you that bucket. News falcons hit the wrong button. There we go. All right. Well, we mentioned Jameis Winston. He's back starting for the bucks. Remember he came in before the bye week after his suspension and replaced. Ryan Fitzpatrick in Chicago that game was already a blow out. But James Winston getting his first start today of the season. And Jameis Winston a fifteen yard touchdown pass to tight end Cameron -brate the point after try was no good by Chandler cat zero. And so the bucks are on top of the falcons in Atlanta early six to nothing with eleven thirty six left to go in the first quarter. So just a quick side note. I was just thinking there with that that missed extra point. Man. I I know there's always issues with kickers in the NFL. But is it just seemed like this year, you know, more than ever just like so many kickers or having bad issues and struggles in bed games. I mean Mason Crosby the Packers missed five last week in Detroit. Wow. I don't know. Maybe it's just me. I don't know what the numbers are. But I am sure it would be worth looking into like most kicks in extra points missed through six weeks of the season. I would love to see that number. We also have supports on the board at MetLife. Early jets colts jets got both teams Kim mention just one. All right. So we had. Morris Claiborne with an Andrew luck pick six to put the jets on top of the colts seven and nothing, but Andrew luck made up for it. After getting the ball back with a thirty four yard touchdown pass to Marcus Johnson. And so right now the colts and the jets are tied seven seven games. Not even three minutes old twelve sixteen left to go in the first quarter of play. And we mentioned that stat. Andrew luck has never lost four consecutive starts. He's coming into this one with a three game losing streak..
