Listen: President Trump, Chuck Schumer, Senate discussed on This Morning with Gordon Deal
"That there's not going to be any votes of any kind until next year. Certainly not till next week. They will meet briefly on Monday New Year's Eve as well. And then of course, on the second the new the new the new house and Senate are seated and the Democrats take control of the house of representatives. Now what's going to happen at that point? Is the house will most likely pass the Bill that was passed by the Senate that doesn't change the funding for border security in at all? And then that will go to the president's desk. And you know, if he stands firm on where he is currently he'll veto it. And so we'll see how long this government shutdowns actually going to last. It looks like about twenty five percent of this government shutdown happened back on Saturday. President Trump wants five point eight million five point seven million billion something like that for border security and to fund the wall, the Democrats offered one point three billion. And it's been interesting because. The White House kind of came off of that number a little bit and had a meeting with where offering like two point one billion to try to compromise. But that was roundly turned down. Turn down flat. According to several reports. Mike Pence, Jared Kushner and huddled with some Democrats actually last Saturday the first day of the shutdown and proposed, you know, the funds go for a physical barrier that would include fencing a wall and steal slats. This means not all the funding would have been used for a while Democrats walked away and basically haven't been heard from since dead silence. From Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi and company, and you gotta believe they're just stalling until they get control of the house. The blame game ramped up yesterday a little bit as well. The president made it clear. This is a quote this statement from the White House. The president has made it clear that any Bill to fund the government must adequately fund border security to stop the flow of illegal drugs, criminals. MS thirteen gang members child smugglers, human traffickers into our communities and protect the American people. The administration understands this crisis has made a reasonable commonsense solution to Democrats five days ago, we've not received a single response. The president seemed stay in Washington over Christmas. Open to negotiate a deal to stop the dangerous crisis on the border, protect American communities and reopened the government. The Democrats decided to go home the only rational conclusions that the democrat party is openly choosing to keep our government closed to protect illegal immigrants rather than the American people. The president does not want the government to remain shut down. But he will not send a proposal. That does not. I prioritize our country's safety and. Security. As for the Democrats dick Durbin minority whip in the Senate said, quote, no end in sight to the president's government shutdown. He's taken our government hostage over his outrageous demand for a five billion dollar border wall that would be both wasteful and ineffective. So the rhetoric has ramped up, but really nothing has changed. It's like we're still standing here. And the other side says we're still standing here. Now so far. Looks like President Trump getting more of the blame a new Reuters Ipsos poll shows forty seven percent whole Trump responsible. Thirty three percent blamed Democrats seven percent blame. Congressional republicans. Thirty five percent. Back in said, they backed including money for the wall in a congressional spending Bill only twenty five percent said they supported Trump shutting down the government over the matter. If you believe Trump is the one who shut down the government. Nine of fifteen federal agencies have been affected. So far, and there's no end in sight. A spokesman for Chuck Schumer said Thursday, quote, the two sides remained far apart because of the president's insistence over the government keeping closed over his expensive. And impractical wall. Once again look for Wednesday. The first day of the new congress to be seated that Nancy Pelosi will put forward and the that the house will vote on the what the Senate has already passed, and that's really gonna put the pressure on Trump to see if he has really interested in doubling down on this five forty-one, NewsRadio W RV.."
