Or any stocking. How hanukkah's just around the corner, and you will autograph it for the cardinal fan. Yeah. Five dates they'd see most come on by have a beer. We'll talk some cardinals. And I'll sign the book anything any any phrase. You want me to say any sentiment? Leno like, I love you. Or sure would you marry me up stink or whatever you want. Yeah. You know, some people don't do that. You know? It's only. Hey, just sign the name. Sure. No, no. I'm a clown. I'll do anything. Okay. In the name of the book includes fifty it's called the yes. The big fifty big v men in moments of the St Louis cardinals, I interviewed everybody for the book. It was a bunch of phone. I I read most of it the last time we met and then the rest of it last night. Of course, I left my notes at home. But I recreate them the best of my knowledge number one. I remember you have a tour of if you could take the STAN Musial restaurant tour guide us through that. What are the restaurants that he went to an almost regular basis? My guys weighed at the Christmas steakhouse. Yes. Yes. Yes. Maradas ferraro's. He loved the love going there for the pizza, and it was so much fun. Watching him. I I guess I never saw him. The hearing the the examples of he would come and he would sit there, and you have a stack of cards, and then you would autograph for the kids and shakes hands. He loved being part of the community. He loved being part of Saint Louis. It's crazy, right? Like he could have lived anywhere after he retired news. A you know, a stud star athlete he wanted part of our community. And the cardinals are so big that even in Hollywood on the set of the office during the World Series, the actors will be running to the van to listen to the cardinal action. So basically what I did with this book was I tried to use it as a way to interview every famous Saint Louis, and I never got to meet before. So I reached out to John ham from madman LA Kemper and Jennifer Fisher, of course, from the office. And yeah, Ellie shared a great story about how they would sneak off into the van and and listen to game six of the World Series. Meanwhile, Don, Draper, Jon. He's dressed like nineteen sixties garb. He would be sprinting down the hallway after filming an intense scene of madman to go to the trailer to catch a couple of pitchers from game six isn't that something and then a fellow? I never even heard of. But he was the original George Washington on Broadway in Hamilton Christopher Jackson from is it. Kiro illinois. It is. Yeah. Yeah. Christopher jackson. You know, the voice if you've heard the Hamilton recordings. He's from the area. He grew up a cardinal's fan. He wanted to be Ozzie Smith. He and his buddy would practice the flip in the front yard there may or may not have been a concussion. Oh, no kidding. Eight years old China flip in the front yard. It's tricky. But he loves the cardinals leads Ozzie. And he he does recount, no, he's on Broadway. Now, or who knows where he's also called bowl on on CBS appre popular show and his his favorite childhood memory was coming to Saint Louis, and I guess they would go to some. I forget was it. Mcdonalds on the roof raw. Yes. Come on, the how may I believe it was the Admiral, but it was the riverboat McDonald's. Always not on the Admiral. Okay. It was a separate a boat. And it was a friend of mine from Cleveland called it an urban planners nightmare to have center attraction McDonald's. But hey, what whatever if you go to bur actually, Bonn, Germany, right across from where I guess it's Beethoven was born. There's a McDonald's. So they're they're everywhere. But yeah, it was right down the river riverfront. You could get a Big Mac on the Mississippi. Yeah. So he would come in from Illinois and say that his trifecta if you're going to six flags going to watch Ozzie at the cardinal game. And then of course, eating on the riverboat McDonald's to tread carefully writing. Big Mac, the other Big Mac. Yeah. Yeah. Mark Maguire, of course, man. What a weird situation for us, psychologically, we fell for him. Right. We adored him. And then we found out. He was he was using performance enhancing drugs. Does that change it in our heads? It was still an amazing experience watching seventy home runs in one season. But he didn't do it organically. There's a lot of inner arguments. Yeah, I was not among those who thought he should have been in the Saint Louis cardinals hall of fame, and you know, it's just because of his history. I'm sorry. I I think it's tainted the it was interesting when they had the announcement would they brought him out gave him the red blazer the place was packed. Well, I know it I know it. I mean, we're a forgiving people. I guess now. What was the first word that Bob Gibson said to you when you went up to him and introduce yourself. Let's recreate the okay, I'm walking down the hallway, Bob Gibson. And you come up to me. What are you just? Recently been hired at my hometown paper the Louis post dispatch to be the sports columnist. I've wanted to meet all the important people. There was Bob Gibson. I happen to be with some other important cardinals people. So I was standing there. I said, hey, Bob, just want to introduce myself Benjamin Hochman news sports calms for the post-dispatch. Bob Gibson looks at me and goes, I don't care. Kyle. He's pulling miles Davis thing Davis. You do that to people? Expletives that we have to delete. Wow. Okay. All right. Yeah. Well, that's Bob Gibson, of course. And know what you have also what I like about your writing as you do find those kind of interesting little twists that some writers. Just don't even put in. But Albert pools was a thirteenth round draft pick. Isn't it? Crazy that is wild. Yeah. I mean, we talked about how Mike trout the greatest player of today's game dropped all the way to the twenty second pick. I believe how could Twenty-one teams miss him. If you will. Well, how twelve plus rounds of kicks miss our pools. But you know, he he was a little pudgy. He hang around. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He was from smaller school in Kansas City. And sure enough the the greatest diamond in the rough. I mean, you consider this in his eleven seasons. I love sees the only three players do what he did. That's hit three hundred have thirty home runs and one hundred RBI is three players have done that ever Albert Pujols. Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth and was it or was it not. A good move to kind of let him go to LA. I mean, we've say led them to not pay two hundred fifty million dollars. But after that happened. We did really. Well, didn't we no question about it? I mean, the Saint Louis cardinals got BELTRAN Alan, Craig ascended, Lance Berkman, there were a lot of moves that helped the cardinal stay afloat. Of course, a lot of the younger players to. I think it was definitely a situation where the cars can look back, and they wouldn't say it publicly, but they dodged a bullet. Because we did. Okay. He left after two thousand eleven am my right. Yeah. And then we went to the series in two thousand thirteen didn't we and you made the playoffs in twelve and fourteen and fifteen and meanwhile, his batting average. I mean, he was better than me. But he was not as old self moreover, and we know this because of Matt carpenter. We see it. We hear about it on kmox during the broadcast. These shifts are changing baseball. They're they're moving shortstops over to second base, and such and those are those guys in the American are just eating up our pool host ground balls. Hard hit balls are are no longer hits. Now. Let me ask you this. You did talk to John Missoula. I think just for today's column. Yeah. I spoken to him after the victory. Blue announcement when the cardinals are gonna bring back the victory blue, and yeah, he was he was pretty adamant that they're gonna do something. So let's see them do something. But Bill DeWitt, the third said, we just don't do something for doing something. We're in for the long run. It was interesting because the last three years the cardinals and miss the playoffs, of course. And it's really frustrating, and they're kind of stuck in the eighties, and you could say they're stuck in the eighties and win totals maybe delusions of grander to the nineteen eighties. If you will just kind of stuck there. How do you make a change you have to splurge gift to do something outside of the box? So that means maybe overpaying for Bryce Harper. Trading. An extra prospector to for Paul Goldschmidt for the brewers aren't going anywhere in the cubs are definitely not going anywhere. What do you think we should do to honor Fathi Fabiano, my man, I felt bad than he lost that that part's thought but five yada? As a community. Yeah. I mean is there supposed to be a parade? But what people come up for a parade. He he didn't win know presented our country and more importantly, our city on the world stage and got to if you will the extra innings of of. It's weird. Zinc vote will say like, you know, it's like a it's like a marathon of chess. And then suddenly to figure out the winner. They have a sprint towards the end. And that's what happened. That's how Magnus Carlsen one. I do think they should do something for fraud. Yano? Maybe I pitched the cargo game blues pucker up all that. And more a flavor at Ted Druze. Nice. Let's see your poster at the airport welcoming passengers billboard and highway forty one at the king's highway exit for chess hall of fame. This Email to me by an alert listener, Aaron Williams keys to the city, the whole city how about just. What did people don't give keeps anymore? Do they? Yeah. But he has a county. He's getting them. Got to be something that we can do. Because if you've got it flaunt it, and we've got the guys it's not like that lists of Chuck Berry where we pretended. He wasn't here for years, and you would go to Chicago's airport. I'm not kidding you. Maybe Ben you didn't do this. But you get off and because he did some recording a chess records in Chicago. You went to O'Hare and there he was Chuck Berry. Meanwhile, who is living and working here. Right. So we do that kind of a lot. But we should not do that. With fob FIV loves Saint Louis loves being part of the community how walk of fame too early. It might be too early. But let's talk about this. Let's talk about this. I wouldn't mind it. Well, I think at the very least if you've got a business like your telly tire who are our friends up there on west Florida. Zipper. Okay. Come on Zeisler tires. If you've got a marquee is this your tires? You gotta marquee. Shouldn't you say like congrats fob just a little community pride now? Or if your church, you know, you're settlement because somebody Lutheran church in your usually got like a quote from.
