Hello. This is Norah mcnerney with an update on episode, fifty one neighbor. If you haven't heard it yet, this will not make a lot of sense might be a little spoiler but there's a passionate response to this episode, several passionate responses. Some people emailed us privately to tell us that we were too harsh on tally as boyfriend. We are continuing to make the world a dangerous place for people who are trying to be honest about their feelings and who needs space to talk about this and get help for it. Some people reached out to say that they have been entirely shoes and it was very hard. And some people reached out to say that more step should have been taken to keep any of these pedophile pedophiliac thoughts from becoming pedophiliac actions. So what was missing from that episode were some details and context that the topic deserved and that we should have put in the original episode. So that's what this is. I don't know if there's something that gets a more universally just reaction than. The word pedophilia truly interviewing Talia shoulders up to my ears face squinched. It's universally ab- hornet to think of children this way, but it is not illegal to think that way by that. I just mean that as Bush. As we all feel about it, thoughts are not actions. He had not admitted to any criminal activity. If Talia had known of anything she would have turned him in immediately. She spoke to multiple legal experts who all agreed he did not admit to any actual criminal offense that could be reported. We mentioned in the episode that he told Holly that he watches legal foreign films that include child nudity, but not child porn. He told her that he has not touched or harmed any kids. This sort of conversation is not one that you're ever prepared to have when you fall in love and you think, you know, I could spend my life with this person. We could weather any storm. You think the storm will be like, maybe someday we'll have money. Problems may be some day. Just won't be as nice to each other. You don't think, oh, the storm will be the person who I fell in love with telling me that he has sexual thoughts about children. That's. Not a thing we are prepared for Talia wanted to help him because she cared about him. And because she did not want any children to be hurt. And tally also away who to talk to you and how to deal with it. If she did the wrong thing, she worried she'd push him into a corner which might make him more desperate, increase the chance of him harming kids or harming himself. So here is what she did. She talked with their best who is a mandated reporter. She put her ex in contact with a therapist who would work with him on these thoughts, their best who has also mandated reporter. She helped him find a rehab center that helps people with pedophile thoughts, make safety plans to prevent their thoughts from becoming actions. She talked with him about his volunteering with children. He assured her that he had quit big brother and his bar mitzvah lessons. He sent her proof of his resignation from big brothers, big sisters when we say that Talia did all she could. We do mean it. We did check it and what we are asking for is for you to trust that our show runs on trust from our audience and also from our subjects who come to us and bare their souls about the hardest things that they've been through or they're. Going through. And so it's important to me and to us that they feel safe. We have to have a trusting relationship or no one would talk to us in. This also means that sometimes we cannot tell every detail of a story and it does not mean that those details don't exist. Talia is a person. She's a real person out in the world. Talia is not her real name, but she's a real person and she did all that she could. She can read all your comments and she has. There are mandated reporters in this story. Many of them who Talia talked to were aware of what happened in hold more power than she has. I know for some people, they believe tally is not the story, but I do disagree..
