Listen: California, La County, DMV discussed on Nightcap with Ryan Gates
"Sad news dealing with the road diet story. The story we covered at mar vista neighborhood of L A a bringing all that. You've been talking about props six over the weekend. Some of the media ran scare stories about an even job cuts. I mean, first of all this is money. They didn't have just over a year ago. I think the actually the kicked in November. I the sales tax last year the gas tax. The increase in the gas tax. So they're complaining that they're going to cut jobs. I mean, it's just really ridiculous. You know, Karl Demayo from reform California told us last week. That some of his little guerrilla tactics which includes sending out that Mailer that looks like it's from the government telling you to vote, yes. On prop six it is the gas tax repeal because they're apparently just enough. People are confused over what six is if you can believe that. But we don't reach every listener and California, and certainly not every voter. So there's nothing we can do about that. But they also have been making these robot called robocalls to also tell voters that prop six is the gas tax repeal, basically headline there's an error in your ballot. There's an era in your ballot and the title in the summary disguises, the fact that the gas tax repeal, but you think about it. They got an extra five billion a year from us just starting a year ago. And now they're acting like oh my God. Everything's gonna crash if they're really how did you operate just a year ago before the gas tax kicked in your out of your minds on top of that just talk to Steve Greenhut in California voters, if people really woke up in new. The strength of the public employee unions, and how much they drained from tax payer money all the way down to pensions and benefits which takes up an enormous amount of the spending, and it's growing because attention deals made back in the late nineteen ninety s into the early two thousands that start to show up because you know, eighteen nineteen twenty years later some of those people are starting to retire. And they want their lifetime pension, and it's digger than the generation before them. So it's going to eat up more and more people's budgets and Carl Demayo reform California did a little demonstration last week where they took a look at spending in some of the transit agencies and transportation agencies in LA county and Orange County has like one hundred and something thousand dollars in pay and benefits for a bus driver. And this is what you get. All right. They're far and above. I mean it used to be longtime ago that the public sector had to offer some kind of benefits to attract people more days off. And of course, the lifetime pension, but the scales have tipped. Can't do that anymore. But we still do that. And the price is coming to pay. I mean, some of these local towns and cities are going to see a big chunk of their budget devoted to money. They have to send to CalPERS to cover these pensions. They're not to have much. That's why you're seeing all the sales tax a lot of them on the ballot in cities and towns around southern California. They'll look into fill the gap because of all the money you have to hand over for the pensions. Meanwhile, turning to the DMV and this is laughable, the California Department of motor vehicles has decided to implement new quality controls on their voter registration process. As we've told you before there have been tens of thousands of people improperly registered to vote, and why did anybody give DMV this job? Well, that's because everybody has to use the DMV, and we need more people signed up to vote we need to push voter registration. So and handed over to this organization with computer equipment from the nineteen seventies. They can't even keep up with the very small number of people that have to go into. Get these real ID licenses. We told you so far only about a million and a half customers who need the licenses to comply with the federal standards by October of twenty twenty have come in many things over twenty billion more have to commit in the next couple of years to get those licenses. They're not ready for this. And now they just make promises of the D director Jean Shimoda and the California Department of technology director Amy tongue sent the letter to the secretary of state, Alex Padilla because this actually woke up a top democrat, Alex Padilla, the secretary of state said as motor-voter thing we need to have an audit finally paid attention. Meanwhile, the DMV wanted to get some good publicity for itself. So they claim they caught four hundred and ninety one people. Misusing the disabled persons parking placards last month. Now, you think about that? They did sweeps at the LA county fair which most of the violations came from people at the LA county fair. So that was easy pickets four hundred and forty three citations at the LA county fair, they take the placard and the fines or anywhere from two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. But do you know? Statewide, how many of these placards are out there? It's over three million placards in special license plates over three million. So you know, the fact that they may have nabbed five hundred drivers is really just we're trying to send out good good press. But not really making a dent in the problem. All but this'll send a message to everyone else. That's I doubt that chances of you getting caught. I mean, how many inspectors could they have out there at any given time when I come back a lot more to do. We're going to talk about update of the road diet Pasadena, and of course, Marvin. On the west side. They reduced Venice boulevard. Year and some months ago from three lanes to two lanes in each direction. And we now have the twenty-first business to fold because of bad idea.
