Listen: John Hickenlooper, Senate, Jay Inslee discussed on CNN's The Daily DC
"The daily d._c. z. Thanks so much for listening today on the podcast winnowing the field. Yes the two thousand twenty democratic field grew a bit shorter in the last as twenty four hours when washington state governor. Jay inslee announced his plans to drop out of the presidential race. Here's a bit of him. Announcing that decision on m._s._n._b._c.'s rachel maddow show we had a hundred and thirty thousand people helped me in this campaign but it's become clear that i'm not going to be carrying the ball. I'm not going to be the president and song withdrawing <hes> tonight from the race but i have to tell you look i've been fighting climate change for twenty five years and i've never been so confident of the ability of american outta meech critical critical mass to move the ball. I believe we are going to have a candidate to fight this battle. There is little doubt that though jay inslee was not able to gain traction with democratic primary boaters never cracking pass one percent in the polls he is leaving a mark on this race he put climate change as an issue front and center not not only in his campaign for the presidency but for the entire democratic field he was a pace setter he talked about how climate change impacted every aspect aspect of american life whether it is the economy or health care or national security. There is not an issue that doesn't have climate change back at its core and as he said in the detroit debate in july time is running out there's time maybe from his point of view to get this fixed and get it right but there's not much time and so in lee clearly intends to keep climate change front and center just this from the sidelines of the presidential race we expect him to announce his plans for the future today which is that he is expected to seek a third term home as governor of washington so leaving the presidential race but looking to renew his gubernatorial contract with the people of washington state and will no doubt remain a name now in in the national political discourse. He is not the only now former presidential candidate to announce their future future plans today former colorado governor and denver mayor john hickenlooper who dropped out of the presidential race. Some days ago announced today via video that he is going to seek the democratic nomination for the u._s. Senate from colorado. He is seeking to take on cory gardner. The incumbent republican lookin' senator who is target number one for the democrats in their quest to try and take back the senate majority hickenlooper was heavily recruited into the race by chuck schumer the senate minority leader and he is by far the candidate in the field with the highest name recognition and clear lear past history statewide with colorado voters. Eighty is a crowded democratic primary. We'll see if other candidates fold up their tents now that hickenlooper is is in but hickenlooper is who the democrats think have the best chance to secure this pickup and put the democrats on a path through the map of trying to win back back the senate majority. Here is a little bit of john hickenlooper announcement video his senate campaign.."
