U.S. Worker Pay Rises Strongly as Businesses Fight to Fill Jobs


A healthy increase in the second quarter wages and salaries as employers try to fill millions of available jobs the labor department says pay increased one percent for the three month period that ended in June for workers in the private sector that's down slightly from the first quarter but still the second highest increase in more than a decade for the year ending in June wages and salaries for private sector workers jumped three and a half percent the biggest increase in more than fourteen years however total compensation for all workers which included a slowing in the growth of benefits rose just point seven percent in the second quarter and just under three percent in the past year my camp in Washington
