Listen: Football, National Football League And Cowboys discussed on CBS Sports Radio
"Wherever else good to get gresh back in the mix. Anti-grassroots on before me today. Don't get me wrong. I love back and I love doing the tail end of act show with them every single Saturday during college football. But. Gresh back on Saturdays. He'll be leading into me for the next upcoming months. Looking forward to listening to him. And then sitting in what you guys were four hours a clip on Saturdays. You can be an active participant on the shell hit me up at eight five five two one two four two two seven got off to a good start here in Napoleon's. Army? Beat navy seventeen. Ten good for the cadet. Sorry midshipmen. Army had no to a ballgame. Best season a pad in decades. I would say the only college football game of note, the FBI was playing earlier today. But this year last regular season game before we get into the ball games. But a college football season. Speaking of college football Bill bender is gonna join us coming up next hour. He covers all college football for the sporting news. He also is a Heisman broder they will give out the Heisman Trophy tonight here in New York. As a matter of fact, I'm on record saying, I think it will be in should be to a tongue of a low of the Alabama crimson tide act. My college football guru and part-time, buddy. Not to these part time as being a buddies always embodied by these part-time hosts co host with your truly I happen with him. He says he'd go at Mr. Murray from Oklahoma. I think they'll be the top top to Dwayne Haskins a quarterback from Ohio State also got an invite. Depending on how the vote goes they break it out every single year. Dave had I think as many as six or seven guys come up on a given year of the boats been really close. They try and do it. So that it's a depiction of how the boat went. I'm assuming there was a pretty big drop off after Haskins. I think it's gonna be a drop off after the top two to asking. But then it might be an even bigger drop off their after. I'm sure they don't want to invite to guys because number one, it's it's a big deal, and you want to have participation and by the way, it's a television production ESPN, it'll be broadcast, and it I think starting at eight o'clock. And they wanna do background pieces and features on the guys who were up pretty award only given two guys that means that much more filler for ESPN to fill up the entire hour before they actually make the announcement present the trophy. So I think three's the minimum. That they have. And they've got three to cheer hang two horse race, not their Marie your tongue of by lower. I think it's going to be to love. But we shall see later tonight. We'll ask Bill bender about his Eisman vote. And if he's got a better field than yours, truly as to how the voting is going to go. We'll ask him about all the ball games. And did we get to four right teams? Best teams for the playoffs and like so Bill bender from sporting news called football insider will join us next hour, Sean Wagner, Magoo from CBS. Sports dot com are one of our many NFL writers will hop aboard. We'll talk about week fourteen in the NFL with withdrawn in our number three in our final hour. John Mishota from the Dallas Morning News covers the Cowboys for them day in and day out will help aboard. We've got a bunch of good games this weekend. I'll give you just let me take a quick peek at week sixteen excuse me week fourteen in the National Football League jets bills. I care because I'm a jet fan. But let's be honest. Nobody else does Panthers still in the playoff Mexican. They bounce back. Packers first week signs. Mike McCarthy, there's some interest. There can the Texans win their ninth in a row ravens and chiefs to play up teams in the AFC best offense against the best defense, certainly the best offensive AFC arguably best offense at all football, Kansas City. I think the ravens are the best defense in the AFC and arguably the best overall defense so that is an intriguing early matchup can the patriots win their tenth straight divisional title beaten dolphins. The saints have a bounce. We Kizzie intriguing thing about the saints game this week that probably a bunch of people don't even realize this is a revenge game plan, the bucks. The saints lost Lee week one to the box, and the bucks have been the biggest check on I'd squad. And in the entire National Football League got off to a fast start. Yes. Fits magic was fits magic week one against the saints. And in a couple of weeks thereafter, then the bottom fell out and they want again last week. So they're still on the fringe of being a playoff team got five wins. But when they are bad, they are awful, which bucks team shows up. So there's some intrigue to that game. Skins are still in the mix for the wild card. But it is Mark Sanchez. So I don't if I weren't going to be watching game here in New York. I don't know how much attention. I would be paying that one charges should clobbered the Bengals can the Broncos hang in the playoff race against the forty Niners. Lions and cardinals. The I can't make an argument for that. There's no real reason to watch the lines and the cardinals and lecture alliance Rainer cardinal fan. And in the best four o'clock game bar. None is eagles Cowboys. Because if the eagles win they would tie the Cowboys for first place, and they would have a slight leg up in the tiebreaker because the Cowboys have already lost wants to skins the eagles of one near other four in division games prior to playing the Cowboys this week other than the Cowboys. They're three and one and division. They beat the giants twice. I beat the skins. They lost to the Cowboys have beat the Cowboys tomorrow before and one in division, the Cowboys only be three and two. So they would have a slight leg up any tiebreaker eagles if they were to win tomorrow's game Steelers and raiders late-game Steelers today bounce back after last week's loss coughing up. A big lead against the chargers. The two primetime games about very good Rams and bears. Best offense in the NFC. Arguably in all of what ball against the best defense in the NFC? Arguably in. Football between the Rams and the bears. The Rams bears game much like the chiefs and ravens game. And in the Vikings and Seahawks is a good wildcard battle on the Monday night game. So there is some good games that we can talk about. We'll talk about them as we go, Sean Wagner McGaw will join us later talk NFL, but we will go specific eagles Cowboys because I think to wonder to better games this weekend. Chuck from hoboken's up on CBS sports radio. What's up Chuck? Hey, Jodie longtime caller appreciate it. But. Wait you ever that right up? Call Billy guy. Okay. Yeah. You sound like a fairly guy. There is a guy who called him to you MAC, amac McDonald's who said that why I said it wrong. First time caller longtime look. Whatever whatever I right to call. You and say, hey, I love you miss you. I you have probably eating more French fries that big Donald. Right. Yeah. Shows all the time. I wanna give Guan bad McNall shot Al for his longtime at his station break. Oh, by the way. He's eating a lot of French fries. Too. Now, you're getting more. A huge fan. What's cool about being up here in Hoboken now some guy? But now I get to hear you on both. I hear you everywhere on every on every do all that's a beautiful thing about eighty internet and be apps. Doesn't matter where you are any more. You can listen anytime anyplace anywhere. So I lost the Phillies station for a long time because I had gone to law school I had gone away. And yeah, you couldn't hear now with the app. It's amazing people should definitely dial that up and get their stations they want. But then also I want to ask you because you're you're you. And of course, your father are baseball genius. So I would love to hear your opinions on the Phillies and are they going to now somebody? Yeah. The big guys our harbor. Yes. First of all they made a good trade. Chuck good catching. Appreciate you. Checking in get gene cigar to be their shortstop for next year. Get out from Santana's contract, which I got when they signed him. They felt they needed another back. They wanted a guy to come in and be a veteran presence in their locker room. Which was those two things. The problem was he's a first baseman. And I told it is they played them. A couple of games at third day. She wasn't pretty which means they had to move Reese Hoskins to left field. And he was atrocious. Any outfield so positionally it just didn't work, and they were wise to get out from under the contract that they gave him and get an all star shortstop likes Agoura is pretty damn good deal. Didn't have to give up a lot to get him. So they've already taken one step in the right direction with a trade. I think they will be made your players from shadow Ann Arbor. I don't think they're getting both the wildly optimistic. Philly fans believed that they have a chance for both nine think they could get one. They need. They really need to get one of the two. I don't think it's a lock. But I think they're in pretty damn good position to get one out of two. If you ask me, which one I think it is. I'm starting to get the feeling that the national rights I talked to John Heyman earlier today. And he thought that Harper was more likely to end in Philly. I still think Machado couple of people in the Philly front office. Go back to Baltimore when Machado signed. So they've known them forever. And I think they've got insight to him the day think he's going to be worth the massive pay day that he's gonna get. So I'll I'll stick with Machado. If I think the Phillies you're gonna get a major free agent signing this off season. I would say probably Manny Machado Mitch from jerseys up on CBS sports radio. I mitch. Jerry, happy holiday to you, bud. Do you think the does will get offer and trace warning you mean pitches Napoli, then you're to trade started especially with that is? Well, let's go one at a time. Harper is not impossible. They like them. They know how much it's going to cost get him. They've got the wherewithal to pay him did not every team in major league baseball. Does. They're going to have to do some other things. Not just going to sign him. They're gonna have to move tweet and get probably next to nothing in return. But just get his salary off the books not that his salary's outrageous. They know that they're done with camp next year. So his money won't be on the books anymore. So they'll be at a major payroll this year if they sign Harper, but it'll lighten up again next year when they lose a guy like camp they like to get a pitcher. I don't know that a guy like kluber who's making seventeen which is alive put night outrageous is possible. But the Indians are going to ask for their best prospects do go they'll probably ask for the kid pitcher who pitched so well for them this year, maybe plea to please. Complete. Who's going to have interest in? I don't see the Indians have an interest in. I don't think he's a fit with the Indians. I think they're going to have to trade him. Elsewhere. I think somebody will take on league. But I don't think it'd be Cleveland in a kluber deal. The dodgers could use another starting pitcher for damn sure. But the kind of money they paid Kershaw to stay. I would not say that's going to be at twenty plus million dollar investment. So I think that they will try and go the mid range price type pitcher rather than top of the market type pitcher. That's just my guess. And yes, the winter meetings start tomorrow in Las Vegas. We'll try and scratch over baseball guests tomorrow, we'll be so unin inundated by the NFL will do it all day. Be here with ion football afternoon. I'll come in a talent is, but I do want to get some baseball talk hot stove stuff. So we'll get we'll get someone who's already made their way out the betas. And while I'm very happy to be here with the leash and heck and you guys on the telephone lines. Yeah. I'd rather be in Vegas right now. Because number one it's called up here in New York. Number two. It's nice in Las Vegas right about now. Number three. Yeah. I could be drawing to an inside straight right now. If I was in Vegas and hitting a big jackpot a number four. Yeah. I've been to couple of the baseball winter meetings. And they're fun was doing a show earlier today with a guy who's an actual reporter whose job it is to break news when you're a talk show host on the radio. You don't have to worry about that. You just do your show, and you go around the lobby and you talk to people and you get some insight, but you don't have to break stories side."
