Listen: Barnes says buyout likely kept him from taking UCLA job
"Tennessee's men's basketball head coach Rick Barnes with media talk about the vol season as well as his interest. He showed another jobs Barnes was incredibly transparent. When asked about what would happen, if you say prompts pays five million dollars buyout? He says I think I would have been the coach UCLA I've said that the people before I really felt at that time dodge, what would happen and by ourselves being okay for Barnes to admit. He would have likely left for UCLA if they paid his buy out. I kind of like people who are honest. But I mean, this is the guy who had Texas should be one of the best jobs in college basketball, and college football, it just should be the booster money is absurd. The state is enormous. It has a disproportionate influence over the recruits in the state. You know, it's not like USC UCLA. There are people that grow up wanting to play football, professionally who wanna go to UCLA parents or Bruins, vans or whatever, Texas massive state. But the university of Texas has this stranglehold over the public imagination that state and Barnes has had that job before he's had that big job, Texas, a big job as my point. He's gonna want it again. He just had a really nice run in the tournament. He's all the leverage. I respect"
