$300M in fraudulent unemployment claims recovered


The labor department says more than two million Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week and that brings the total since the pandemic to over forty million and some aren't getting the money they're due within forty million Americans have filed for unemployment benefits and now Washington state says it's recovered three hundred million dollars paid to criminals who used a stolen personal information to file fraudulent claims last week the state said it was aware that the information of tens of thousands of people was used to fraudulently receive benefits much of it apparently went to a west African fraud ring using identities stolen in prior data breaches such as a massive twenty seventeen Equifax breach several other states including New Mexico Michigan and Montana have also experienced fraudulent
