Listen: 'Big Bang Theory': Why Jim Parsons Walked Away From One of TV's Biggest Hits
"About. Density, the nearly fourteen billion smash hit big bang theory, will air its final episode tonight. But you know why the show is winding down. The main star of the show, Jim Parsons, who plays the role of Sheldon Cooper, actually. Is ready to, to, to stop the show. He was previously rumored to be behind the decision to not return beyond season twelve while the show is an ensemble class Parsons character is the most well known and beloved and is usually the brunt of jokes or is the focal point of whatever major plops going on because he's the most complex of the characters, we don't know if he's got ADHD. We don't know if he's got some form of autism, you know alway no if said he's not crazy because his mother had him tested. We know he's hyper intelligent. We know he's a bit arrogance but he is capable of feelings. Because we've seen his character developed from neurotic to romantic. With Amy Farah Falah is onscreen love. The forty six year old actor has won several EMMY awards for his portrayal and did you know he had a massively successive Broadway successful, Broadway career? I didn't know he was forty six this. I thought he was younger than that. But that's why he was hired to play this role because he looks a lot younger than he is speaking to the Hollywood reporter Parsons explained that he didn't want to play the part anymore. Ironically, he is the only member of the cast that will stay in the big bang theory. Ecosystem, thanks to his voice over will role in the prequel, spin off young Sheldon. The star wears many hats, including a producer of the Netflix series special. In addition, he'll reprise his Broadway role and the network adept of the boys in the band. Now, boys in the band, was a revival that Jim Parsons, had a big role in bringing back of a Broadway show. It was the first Broadway show about homosexuality. And this the boys in the band, and they're all in the closet, and they're all talking about. An deals with all that. And then, before that, didn't he star in rent, I thought he starred in the musical rent might have been a Broadway. Not the movie, the Broadway production of rent I thought that was where he made his bones, Jim Parsons, so. And the boys in the band was written in the late sixties early seventy s. Yeah. Yeah. And it was monumental, but I don't know that it was huge and his revival. I think is was huge. So serious creator Chuck Laurie explained that he considered moving this show forward without Sheldon. But ultimately decided not to Laurie previously found himself in that position when Charlie Sheen was fired from two and a half men. Another of his shows he was ultimately replaced by Ashton Kutcher and the show continued for a little while longer before taking its final bow. But it was one of those jumped the shark moments for that show when he was gone, all of a sudden, the focal point was gone. So this that what is your favorite? Is there a favorite big band theory episode, or maybe catch phrase, or maybe, you know, there's so many, I, I, I don't know it would be difficult for me to I think my favorite was when Sheldon decided he was going to interact with everyone virtually. So he created a virtual device. Nice of a of a monitor attached to a robot. Yeah. And had a had a shirt hanging on it. And that's what he was going to do it wasn't going to interact with people at all. And I think that was some of the most clever jokes. They have come up with on that program. So I have to. All right. Mrs Mike and the love canon, my producer when they won the costume contest of the comic book shop. Yes, I love that episodes that, that went right into my brain that, that was because Kaley CoCo is dressed, as wonder woman. Yeah. And. Very accurately. And I you know she kept putting on the brunette wagon I was like now leaving the wig off. You make a great blonde wonder woman. So I had that those right. Yeah. Second one was weighing. Leonard was dating Raja's sister. Yeah. And the roommate agreement fight the roommate agreement fight, and when she got Sheldon because she was a lawyer. Yes, that was brilliant. And we certainly have seen all of the characters evolve. I mean rise, the, their friends, the astrophysicist went from beings in completely incapable of talking to women unless he was stoned drunk. Yes. To actually having relationships and we've seen a penny Kaley. Coco's character go from a flighty airhead blonde to someone who really has character in his out there, working as a drug rep we've seen all three we've seen Howard Walla wits go from being a creep, a complete odd to creep to actual pal. Being palatable now and then Leonard we've seen him grow from, from being a complete nerd to, to actually being the one. I think that is the deer in the whole ensemble cast, because he's the one that has has had to deal with Sheldon. He's been Sheldon's caretaker, at the same time he's had to do. Penny Kaley Coco's character and has done so successfully just by being himself, though, not by changing who he was because so many times, you tried to change who he was, and it didn't work, and then was started when he started to be himself, that's when it six. So that's why like that. Oh, there's a third one and it, it helps and we've seen all three of them involve themselves in romantic relationships of all form for that matter. Go ahead and there's the two that evolved football. Yes, there was the one where. Entered learn to watch the Rams brash game. Yeah. And then I jumped onto my chair when I realized the writers in messed up on one of the one of the things that was in that it was a minor mistake. But it was now being being a geek, I was like that's why you like this show because it's about you. And then the other one was whenever they were over at his house. Yeah. And the football game was on and Sheldon started breaking down place. Yes. Because his dad was a high school football coach. His dad was being high school football coach which led to Sheldon. And he was sitting there and he's just breaking that stuff down, that is that those were good and you know, what else they handled very, very well, because you never saw, and that was another thing that was very sometimes when you have a character you never see. But you hear it's solid gold. I'll give you an example, Tim Allen, and his neighbor that you never saw above the is okay, hi-de-ho neighbor that was solid gold a closet that Tim, Allen's character could go into and get solace. Howard wallets bother. You always heard off camera or offset, and you never saw her. You just heard all these outland outlandish descriptions of her and turns out, she was voiced by one of the script coordinators. She was a minor bit play. She wasn't an actress. But she just had that Brooklyn accent. And, and anyway, she in real life passed away of cancer. And when she passed away, they chose to eliminate the character, and so- Howard wallets his mother passed away. And I thought they handled that very thought. Oh my goodness. They really did that. Because we, we read that she had died during the hiatus. And then when the show kicked back up again, this is about three years ago, I guess, maybe three or four. And then they did the episode where his mother died on. She went on vacation and died, another how is comedy like this going to handle a debt and they handled it very well. They didn't do well on it, it was just she died wallow. It's his character had to go deal with it. And then that was, you know you didn't see him anymore, wallets woods for a little while. So that was handled very, very well. Now I've read I've read that something similar will happen tonight. I at least there were hints of it are they false leads probably when the final episode of Seinfeld was coming down? I think I read three or four all this is the script an exclusive look at the script, and none of them were right? None of them were even close. I do know each and every one of the actors normally they do not get to keep wardrobe or props. But each of them got to pick their own prop to keep. So Bernadette got to keep her glasses that she's always wearing even though she doesn't in real life wear glasses. Wallow. It's his character kept the Nintendo belt buckle that he wore in the very first episode. And, and each one got to keep something so that that's kind of cool to their own. Little memento from the show. Yeah. And then shell does not going anywhere because he's hinting that because he still voicing young Sheldon. There's we're going to see how far they're gonna take young Sheldon you know, because we know certain things about shell for instance. No big spoiler here. We know Sheldon's father eventually dies of a heart attack. You're looking at me. Like you didn't know. No, you're right. You're right. It's it's referred to unless they decide not to deal with it at all because they can do that as writers. But anyway, then one episode Sheldon is going on about his dad, and then, and then, unlike my dad because, again, his dad never shows up in the in the later episode, you never see his dad, and it's because he died of a heart attack. And at one point Sheldon, made the made the comment, you're going to like my dad and my heart explode when I'm forty six or whatever it was. It was. But anyway, so we know"
