Listen: Clemson, Alabama And Trevor Lawrence discussed on Outkick the Coverage with Clay Travis
"Good morning. Michael, Patrick layhee? Steve Gill here in Nashville, Tennessee, six oh, six AM on. What will be? I think an historic day Tuesday, January eighth two thousand nineteen President Trump will address the nation this evening in an address about border security. It'll be an eight minute. Speech given from the Oval Office, and he may very well. Declare a national emergency allowing him than to go forward and to begin building a border wall. Whether we'll be steel wall or or a cement wall. We don't know exactly Trump has seized the moment, the Democrats in the house of representatives are made it clear, they will not provide the funding for the wall. And President Trump has said, okay, bring it on. I have a plan. We'll see exactly tonight. What that plan is. So that's going on tonight and last night. Speaking of you know. Shattering news for Alabama fans. Holy cow. That was some football game. Clemson crushed the crimson tide. Just as Steve Gill said, they would I picked Alabama. Steve kille picked Clemson forty four to sixteen. It wasn't a contest at all. I don't think I predicted crush. But man that that freshman Trevor Lawrence made when it first of all what a great kid is nicknamed sunshine like the old titans movie. But man he and the freshman receiver. Oh my goodness. They were hooking up like they'd been in the NFL for about six years together. It was an amazing display of of offense of prowess and defensive toughness. Well, by Clemson, I just love CNN team in orange finally beat. Red team. And it was it was a an epic contest. It wasn't a close game. No. But it it showed that clemson's for real and clemson's here to stay, and I'm a huge fan of Dabo Sweeney. I think he is. I think he's he's an amazing coach Nick Sabin. But just the the character and the class of the Clemson team the faith that Trevor Lawrence has faith the devil. Swinney has an and displays is just it's a team unless you're playing him. You you can't not like. Yeah. And if you saw how now Trevor Lawrence is like six six to ten big tall strong skinny guy twenty next year. And we'll be even harder. He's an and their offensive line. He didn't take any hits. Anyway, the the passes that this kid through were spectacular and the catches from this freshman wide receiver one handed catches one foot in you know, in bounce out of bounds. I mean every time he was from now, I think it it looked to me in a two is a great quarterback from Alabama. It looked like Clemson had his number though, looks like they they scheme for him. And one of the things that look like to me is is to. It's such great confidence in his ability. He just fling it sometimes without really thinking of or looking gamer. He's he's trying to get them back in the game. He's the guy that has always had to carry them on his back when the time comes and the problem was that the offensive line for Alabama was not giving that extra split second that extra moment that allows you to get set. So he was throwing off his back feet. He was throwing into traffic all the time the offensive line. I think really let Alabama down last night and didn't give to or really the running backs then the opportunity that they would would normally have. Now, they still they still got a lot of yardage on the ground more yardage than Clemson usually gives up. Clemson didn't get much yardage on the ground. But they were able just to devastate Alabama in the air, and and the turnovers just absolutely crippled Alabama. Early did. So I asked the this question in the early edition. I'll ask it to you. I thought there was a possibility that at halftime Nick Sabin might say to a love you. But they have your number. Let's give Jalen a chance at quarterback. He didn't do that. I don't think it was that they had to is number. I think that they had the offensive line's number. And they were they were able to to cover enough quickly enough in the defensive backfield. And and schemed again. Yeah, they were they were playing like man on one side. Zone on the other side. So it it did kind of trick to a into a couple of of missteps. But but part of the problem he had guys in his face right out of the blocks. And we saw that on a on a couple of of the key plays when they were going forward on fourth down, the the Clemson defensive line manhandled the Alabama offensive line. And that's where you win it or lose it in the trenches. And that's where Alabama lost it. Yeah. Starts feeling good about themselves in the southeastern conference Alabama still going to have a top one or two recruiting class. They still have most of these guys coming back next year. And and this is not a team that's going anywhere. Clemson. I'd say the same thing the these are going to be the top two teams going. Absolutely. When we come back. Our good friend Neil McCabe from."
