Listen: Wild NFL rule allows Roger Goodell to reverse Rams-Saints outcome, but would he actually use it?
"To overturn the outcome of the game. Despite the fact that everyone in the world who watches football and watch the game knows it was a no call or a bad. No call that allowed the Rams to win the game. Here's the way the rule. Reads, the Commissioner has the sole authority to investigate and take appropriate disciplinary and or corrective measures of any club action non-participant interference or calamity occurs in an NFL game. Which the Commissioner deemed so extraordinary unfair or outside the accepted tactics encountered in professional football. That such action has a major effect on the result of the game. In other words, the NFL Commissioner. Watching the game. The other day could easily come to the conclusion that the no call was such an extraordinarily unfair situation for the New Orleans Saints that he could reverse the outcome of the game or make them play again and figure this thing out. That would be just totally amazing. But it's rule seventeen section to article one. And no one believes it Goodell would use it. But the fact is that, you know, people are reporting on it, the does exist, and it certainly would fit the the Gada gory of what we saw not happen. Not happen. But not happened in the game on Sunday. Right. So anyway, you got that out there. But I would have to ask. What would be the reaction of the public? If for the first time in the history of the game that we had a Commissioner of the National Football League or any of the sports league for that matter would actually intervene to the point that he would reverse the outcome of a game. No matter how bad the officiating was your how many calls that you would be. So you know, there's a big difference. So I will say this between the idea you're seeing a holding call and or you see a holding of a you know, a player on a play. And there's no call by the referees versus something that you know, guy gets totally wiped out with the ball coming his way in. What is I think you don't have to be the most knowledgeable fan to realize that there should have been a penalty called in an instance. So I think there's a big difference. Yeah. I've I've heard some of these football players, you know, on some of the sports shows make the claim that we as fans, and I'm certainly not an Xs no guy don't didn't play football. So I would not understand this. But they'll hear them say that fans, we always think things are holding when they're not really holding. Now, the guys I've always heard say that usually were offensive lineman. For various football teams are programs. But you know, they say, well, you think that you thought that was holding vans. Always call holding when there's not really holding and okay. Well, I'll I'll allow you to make that that comment because you know, more about it than I do. But I don't think anyone is going to question. The fact that that was pass interference and helmet to helmet, and it wasn't called. So anyway, Roger Goodell has in his purview. If he were to really push this to the extreme and reverse the decision of the game. Now that would be the I if he were to exercise. His authority entities rule that would not be my favorite outcome. I would think these play the game again. First of all it gives us another game to watch. And Secondly, it would be a precedent. Because the my knowledge it's never happened. But that would be the the most fair. Result. Right. Because you can't tell the Rams no, I'm sorry. You're not going to Atlanta the blame the Super Bowl because of this dumb miscall by the referees. So anyway. Section seventeen. Excuse me rule. Seventeen section to article one the Commissioner has the sole authority to investigate and take appropriate disciplinary and corrective measures of any club action non-participant interference or calamity, which is certainly was occurs at an NFL game which the Commissioner deems so extra ordinarily unfair. Or outside the accepted tactics encountered in professional football that such action as a major effect on the result of the game. So anyway, do you think that that applies in this case a lot of people would think that and I think, but I just it's not going to happen. But it's kind of fun to think about just because of the the reaction that you would see with this right now, they'd be happy New Orleans. No question about it. But would not be happy, Los Angeles. And I'm not sure how the fans generally you got some thoughts give us a call here. But I'm not sure how fans generally across the National Football League would would go along with that with Roger Goodell. Most people that I hear talk about Roger Goodell or not big fans of is think he's been a very weak NFL Commissioner and didn't really handle this whole issue about the Colin Kaepernick controversy. Very well. So this would be, you know, a major step out. Did those of you old enough to remember Pete Roselle a major league base-? I mean, the the NFL would you know, we would say that'd be like a Pete Rozelle move nut Roger Goodell government shutdown at thirty one days now and counting. And we had a discussion last half hour with Dr Lameiro who I think may have actually hit on something I've done a number of interviews about this government shutdown thing, but he came up with. I think is the most likely the the outcomes. Of this whole issue. And that is that this will go on a couple of more weeks, Dante below she will not give in there'll be no counter offer from the Democrats or if they do it. It won't be wanting to be taken seriously that the government will continue to function at its current situation until some of these government agencies simply cannot produce things like the food stamps, some of the other social programs that would have to be discontinued not just for about the federal employees in about whether they're getting paid, but whether some of these social programs with exist, and therefore that would put the pressure on the president did then opened up the government. And then in his defense. He's only option then would be by executive order to music funding that exists for construction redirect the money to build the wall, or at least start the. Building of the wall on the southern border. Meanwhile, Democrats would likely take that to court try to fight this and put a stoppage to his reversion of funds or diversion of funds. And then. Maybe this would make it all the way up to the US supreme court. And then this issue of whether the president has"
