Backup driver in fatal Arizona Uber autonomous crash charged


The Arizona woman who is monitoring a self driving uber car that struck and killed a pedestrian in twenty eighteen has been charged with negligent homicide forty six year old Rafaela Vasquez pleaded not guilty to negligent homicide for being distracted watching TV on her cell phone when she was the backup driver who was supposed to be making sure uber's autonomous vehicle was stopping properly end was to have applied the brakes if the card didn't in twenty eighteen outside of Phoenix forty nine year old Elaine Herzberg was struck and killed when she crossed the street the uber system detected Herzberg five and a half seconds before the crash but failed to determine she was headed into the vehicle's path Arizona's governor then banned further testing of self driving cars slowing down the prospects for autonomous ride hailing services on public roadways I'm Jackie Quinn
