Listen: How Small Improvements Over Time Can Produce Big Results
"Hey there I'm Eric Olson. I'm days join us on our journey to building one hundred million dollar company. Everybody is Eric J Olson. Have you ever heard of the phrase that small things done over time can result in big changes. That's probably not the phrase. Actually I just kind of made that up. I'm sure there's something very similar to that but I kind of butchered it but what I realized recently is that you know I have a running goal for two thousand nineteen is to run one thousand miles a year. I've never done anything even close to. I'm actually not a very big runner but for some reason over the holidays or two thousand eighteen I decided it would be a really good idea to run a thousand miles in two thousand nineteen gene and I'm halfway through now and I'm just now getting to the point where I feel comfortable running three or four miles every single day well I recently only for whatever reason just thought well what if I would have run an extra. I don't know quarter-mile every single day and I looked at my running log and I counted up up a hundred and sixty three times that I had run this year and I did the math and basically comes out to around forty miles. If I had run an extra one quarter mile every single time that I went running I would be ahead by forty miles. I would be closer to my goal of one thousand thousand miles in the year by forty miles. That's pretty significant. Forty miles is significant but an extra quarter mile is is insignificant at all nine minute pace. That's roughly. I don't know two and a half minutes or something like that extra running. When you just ran I twenty seven minutes or thirty minutes an extra to to navigate this is in significant. You've already gone through the pain of running thirty some some minutes an extra. Two minutes is not going to kill you. It's not a make or break. It's easy small things multiplied by time equal big changes and not just in running but in business. There's a concept of the one percent rule whereas if you you make one percent improvement in your business anywhere in your business over time it multiplies out to big league returns. I'd seen this done with spreadsheets when it comes to financial projections. If you raise your price one percent it can result out in some significant actual prophet increases. I seen it where someone has increased the cost offside their price by I ten percent and results in them being able to lose thirty percent of their customers and still break even so small changes ages multiplied by volume or time can result in big results think about that and everything that you do day in and day out what if you just got an extra five or ten minutes early every single day what if you just stayed for an extra five minutes every single day what if you dissent one more email every single day what if he just came in on the weekend every once in a while for half an hour an hour and just knocked out a little bit of paperwork when it's nice and quite in the office you do that over time and you're going to see significant improvements in your business in your life. Wherever are you apply it. Small changes multiplied by time equal big results. Thank you for listening. Is it time for new website"
