AOPA Calls For Standardization Of GA Parking Labels

Pilot Briefing

Apa is working to ensure pilots have an easier time finding and selecting a place to park by recommending only three terms to label generally parking areas on faa airport diagrams. Upa conducted a review of airport diagrams and found as many as thirty different parking terms for the same type of ramp in southern california alone. Many airports currently have transient parking areas. That are available to pilots but are either not labeled or labeled in a way that is not clear or not relevant to the ramps purpose standardizing. The terms for airport diagrams will become increasingly important for pilots because the faa plans to expand the number of airports required to provide an airport diagram from about seven hundred today to nearly three thousand in the not too distant
