Pentagon to cut troop levels to 2,500 in Iraq, Afghanistan

The US will cut troop levels in Iraq and Afghanistan by mid January just before president trump leaves office the president has long pushed to end America's wars in the Middle East new acting Pentagon chief Chris Miller says some three thousand troops will come home by January fifteenth leaving about twenty five hundred in Iraq and the same in Afghanistan though he says the US will be ready to take on what he calls forces of terror if needed we stand ready to apply the capabilities required to thwart them Miller notably did not save senior military officers recommended or even endorse the drawdown plan commanders have argued against speeding up the withdrawal and it's also being bashed by top Republicans like Senate GOP chief Mitch McConnell I think a precipitous drawdown and either Afghanistan or Iraq would be a mistake Sager mag ani Washington
