Listen: Sixers, Anthony And Jimmy Butler discussed on 0 Show
"I can't say that I'm shocked that the Sixers won Monday night. Anthony is I know you were down there covering that game up close and personal. But I will say that the one thing that did shock me was just how hard they slapped him across the face. Like, I knew I knew a win was coming. But I didn't think that an emphatic slap across the face, Wisconsin. I think it's a combination of a few things that the Sixers got embarrassed in game one and things like all the time. He's lost on Saturday. And then there was the whole texting cell phone thing. And then then Timmons toward jazz lean on it. And, you know, call out the Philly fans, so think that those three elements right there really got him fired up in Jimmy Butler after the game. He said Brown. The couple of swear words, and he said that, you know, talking his language, you know, he was like, man. He's like, I'm glad came in and Custos out. He's a that. That's exactly what I need it. So, you know, everybody's, you know, expecting Sixers to go far round into beginning the season saying, you know, championship or Bausch, and I think his jobs on the line. So everybody's fired up. Well, and that's the thing. I we saw that transfer over and you mentioned all those distractions and things that came after the loss. But the reality is this team when they are cohesive, and when they are unit on both ends of the floor the sky's the limit. But they're so up and down at times throughout the game. This felt like one of their more complete basketball games. Anthony we've seen from this team in a long time this season. I agree. I mean, you made the point go real high. You didn't expect this? I mean hundred and forty five points, you know, that video game numbers. It's specially in a playoff game. When things typically go to a half court set and get slower game was actually really fast. So. It man these teams know each other so well, and they're going, you know, the Sixers made it jesmyn from game one. Now, it's a chess match, you know, Brooklyn or make their move, and he's gonna have to counter once again. So, you know, we'll see it shifts the game three I'm waiting for somebody to Photoshop Brett Browns head on Draymond body and Jimmy Butler head on Kevin Durant. Spotty on that famous Jif in which drain on fire pointing at them, getting them all. After yelling occurs because as you said like that that's Jimmy. That's how you taught with Jimmy right is is just get his real as blunt and explicit as humanly possible and whatever it was that worked Monday night. You've you've covered this game. And you need more emotion gets you one or two games in a series. But. And being a rock is what gets you how you advance. How do they center their emotion actually played better basketball? Yeah. I mean, it's interesting because Jimi Jimi. Hurry. Jackie what he made it. But he didn't try to do too much because he only contributed seven point. Then is the one that really went off with a triple double. You know, he he picked it up, you know, and and feed gave you what he always gives you into by has with the next man up. But it's kinda at this point, you know in the playoffs. No one really cares who gets the glory as long as they're getting the winds. So now Philadelphia has, you know, fifteen games to win until you know, they say that they want all. Yeah. And chatting with Anthony Gilbert at a X Gilbert on Twitter covers the NBA hoop MAG NBA. Dot com is where you can read his stuff as well. I get that. We're back to talking about this team second round advancing. We're back to that conversation. But the reality is while other teams may have lost on Saturday as well focusing just on this series. Brooklyn did exactly what they needed to do. They came in and they took a game. Now granted ended the different way. But are we should we still be talking about that? Oh was I mean, that's that's the the elephant in the room. You know, I tried to as Jimmy a follow up question about little knives. Acts in country music. He was a, hey, man. I just wanna basketball I ninety that it. So, you know, you're right though. It's one one. Road team came in and split. And you know, they're sitting pretty, you know, if they get it done in in game three up in New York. How much of this series? Do you think is left mini? How much fight do you think Brooklyn has versus now just to close out scenario in which we're talking about the Sixers winning and five. I think they're plenty of fight. You know, they gave the Sixers a lot of a lot of tough games during the season. They have no fear. Both teams are very familiar with one another and Brooklyn's like everything they do is predicated on their guard play and great guards how you attack the Sixers. So, you know, we'll see you know, really might actually lose another game. So, you know, they wo-, you know, what asking to be in in the city in which you live and work. How is that going to do if this series goes to six what does that say about the feel and the temperature of the fan base in Philadelphia heading into that Toronto series? Oh, man. Well, you know, they're they you know, how it is there. We're going to say passionate is the word I'm going to use. And you know, people are gonna flip man because expectations are so high. But what people don't realize this emission, my personal opinion. I don't feel like the Sixers has the leadership and infrastructure. To not only get to a championship actually to win a championship. And you know, good teams. Great teams have have. Fantastic leadership and it comes in top down. And you know, I I don't think that Brett browse specifically. Has the discipline and the the laser focused that most coaches would command from a championship caliber to Anthony Gilbert MAG MBA dot com at a X Gilbert joining us on the progressive phone line eight on Shandor explanation radio. I know you've got a piece coming out on Janas and want to get to the bucks in a second. Just talk briefly about the raptors. But there's another team that is really difficult to figure out, and that's the Boston Celtics because of the expectations and knowing what we thought we did about this team versus what the reality of the regular season was Anthony, and now in the postseason if they can come together, then why not go back to those initial expectations of this being the best or second best team in the I mean, it seemed like the only thing that was wrong was a fit slash helping. It wasn't like guys got worse. This year. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. I mean, you're right. If Boston can click and be the Boston everybody, but leave that they would be back in September that hey maimed. They they legitimately Lee could come out of the east. The thing about the east is LeBron James. Southern california. So this is as wide open as it can possibly get because hey, anything happened. Boston could win. The Sixers could win the bucks Toronto. They all could win. So it makes the Eastern Conference must see TV. And you know, hey, man. I wouldn't be surprised if Boston turns it on. And and says, okay. Let's that's what we started. Yeah. I would neither. I if we're looking at Boston Toronto game six game seven now that would be in Toronto. I'm not shocked. We're here sitting talking right now. A sixteenth of April. I'm not going to be shocked at all. I don't think you would either. Right. If Boston not even found a way, but just clicked. Yeah. Yeah. And they they could absolutely do it. You know, they supposedly hashed everything out on that long five hour flight to the west coast. And you know, they played some great ball out there. And then they came back east and everything fell apart. You know, so they are up and down. But when they lock in and when everybody is unselfish and careers is the leader it works. Yeah. Eight word is like they go as far as Carrie Irving. Go. Tell us what you've learned or what maybe somebody who doesn't know a lot. Or I would say the deeper elements of the Yana story on this piece that you have an MBA dot com. Yeah. Jaanus is man. So I I I wanted to get to him early. So I went to morning shoot around. And I figured like, hey, I'm just gonna dedicate this whole day to the bucks into covering Yonathan Kenton ball. And I quickly learned that he does not speak door morning shoot around during the media vailab building. And it's because he's been palling around with Kobe Bryant. And now he has. Implemented mama mentality. Though, he was totally locked in totally laser focus. And I was like, hey, man. So do you speak pre-game? And he was like, no. But he wasn't like main about it. You know? And I was like, okay. I said, well, I wanna ask you about your new signature shoot that's coming out. And I need that time with you tonight. Okay. And after the game he had forty five point. He had a, you know on the Sixers, and they had sixty wins for the first time in a long time in. He made good on his promise today me that time, and we talked shop, and, you know, he's interesting cat, man. And when you get a chance to not only work with your hero. But to try to emulate him. I get it twenty four to him Kobi, Jordan, man. So, you know, he wants to walk and talk and and d laser like focus just like Kobe Bryant was it's amazing to see that story. And you right, the mob mentality is scary for a guy. Like, hey, I I wanted to and because Monday was the day in which major league baseball celebrated the life legacy the impact of Jackie Robinson. I know that you're a student not only of the NBA, but of sport and also life. So if you have to just with some thoughts of just the impact that Jackie Robinson made on you. And just how you've seen this day. Kind of evolve. Yeah. Man. Jackie Robinson day is special man. I love baseball me being a black man growing up in Philadelphia. And then New York City, you know, I'm a huge baseball fan. And you know, I can learn a lot about who. I am. And in my people in this country through the sport of baseball because once upon a time Jackie Robinson, integrated the major leagues, and it wasn't a black person alive that didn't tune into dodger games on their radio. You know? And you know, he's had a huge impact as far as you know, culture and identity and shank leadership and also just elevating the consciousness to say, hey, make you know, where people to them, and we're all equal. And no matter what color we are. So. You know that range to today, and I enjoyed teaching young people in my own, you know, children about that topic. Awesome. Appreciate you sharing that Anthony at a X Gilbert, Anthony, Gilbert hoop MAG, NBA dot com. Thank you, brother. Hey, man.."
