Listen: Minnesota, Vikings And LA Rams discussed on 24 Hour News
"One minutes now in front of five here at CCOO, Steve Eric Jonathan here. Army leading navy ten zero that game now early in the fourth at the link in Philly. Speaking of Philly, they've come alive a little bit there hanging in there. There has been a major hangover in twenty eighteen coming off that Super Bowl victory down the street at US Bank stadium. We were in the building for that quite an experience. Least I can say I saw a Super Bowl Eric. It's probably going to be it for me. But. It was fun to be there once. Yeah. Yeah. It was a great day for you and myself and a lot of others from the radio station here, and obviously a huge day for the Philadelphia Eagles and. Yeah, there on the French. They're six and six they still think they're going to get it done and make a playoff push. Well, if that's going to happen. They better win tomorrow in Arlington against the Dallas Cowboys. Well, they get that done. They have a chance to win the division wide open. They certainly do if they lose. I think they're in deep trouble. Then they'd be six and seven, but they have a brutal schedule speaking at eagles. And of course, right now. Army navy playing at the link at Dallas at the LA Rams home to Houston. Houston's a sneaky good team nine straight wins for us. Yeah. And on the road at Washington now, I I don't know if Houston's a team that's going to do a lot of damage in the AFC. I'm still not convinced about that. But that is a brutal schedule for the eagles. But they still have Carson Wentz. They have a lot of guys that have Super Bowl rings. And this is where you get it done. Would it surprise you? If the eagles found a way to win three of those games and win the division. Would it surprise? You though. It wouldn't it wouldn't shock me. And I think when you think about Carson Wentz. You know, you you lump him in with the defending Super Bowl champion eagles because he was on an MVP pace a year ago. It was about a year ago. Now when he got injured in that game at the Coliseum against the LA Rams and out he went in came Nick foles, and it was a story but finish for falls in the eagles. And once was the consummate team guy, supporting falls. The whole way Wentz is a great guy. We all know that North Dakota kit but Carson Wentz probably deep down doesn't feel like he's a Super Bowl champion. If you know what I'm saying he wasn't there at US Bank stadium on the field playing. So he's still motivated to try to do that do something that he hasn't done. That's win a Super Bowl as a player. But I I don't see them winning tomorrow in Dallas. I liked the Cowboys to me they're old school. They go against the grain from what we're seeing in today's NFL Dak Prescott it's been up and down. But they've started to lean on Zeke Elliott who's an outstanding running back. Their offensive line is very good. I think Prescott has gotten better and the cowboy defense DVD that defense is solid. And I think the Cowboys they're built differently than most of these other teams in the National Football League. But I like it they they win not like the saints. Not like the Rams not like the chiefs. They win with running the football timely passes and a defense that's solid with DeMarcus Lawrence and late and Vander ash. And some of the guys they've put together on that side of the ball. And I will say this. They picked up the receiver Amari Cooper from Oakland. And that might be enough to put them over the top and get them into the playoffs. Lot of lot of big games coming up including the vikes and Seattle on Monday night. I don't want to put it into the most wind category. But a few more thoughts on where things stand in the NFC L A New Orleans, Chicago the top three seeds Dallas right now on the fourth. They still need to not only keep winning to win the division and get a home playoff game. But they've they've got to try and hold off. Philadelphia's we pointed out I feel like Washington's probably done. No, Alex Smith. They've really been struggling as McCoy breaks a lake so so they've had you know, they're down to Mark Sanchez running the show there in Washington. And then anything beyond that Tampa Bay. They are going to get in. I know they're mad medically still alive. So really, you take L A New Orleans and Chicago out of the makes you look at five teams Dallas Seattle, Minnesota Carolina and Philly five teams for. Three spots in the playoffs. I would think you'd probably agree on that. I do. And I'm surprised the Panthers are in this free. Fall off four straight losses. I like that ball team strong quarterback with Cam. I love Christian McCaffrey there. Silently coached with Ron Rivera Leuke clear on the defensive side of the ball. So you look at this losing streak. Now, they got bashed by Pittsburgh. But they lose to the lions by to remember they went for a deuce to win it as opposed to going over time. And and Cam couldn't find a receiver. So they lose that one by one. They lose to Seattle on a walk off field goal by Sebastian Janikowski when earlier in the game Graham Gano missed one. And then last week they lose the Tampa Bay down there in Florida. So here's the remaining schedule for Carolina at Cleveland that is not a gimme anymore. The Browns are pretty good. They're at least getting better than four wins. That's no bargain. The exactly then they host New Orleans. So we know that's going to be a challenge. They host Atlanta Falcons have been. A huge disappointment. They will not be hosting a Super Bowl. And then they go to New Orleans at the end of the season the radios. So Carolina, you know, we can sit here and rail on the Vikings, and you can make a case where the Vikings may not get in. But these other teams that are also in the mix. They don't have easy street either. When it comes to getting into the playoffs. I think the Vikings oughta try and run down the Chicago Bears. I just really don't see a scenario playing out or they can get it done. I here's what I think would have to happen. You're going to need the LA Rams tomorrow night to win in Chicago. If that happens the bears go to eight and five and if the Vikings beat the Seahawks, they're seven five and one and a half game back if the bears win tomorrow night. I think they're going to win that division. It's almost like they will have earned it beating the Rams. But that's I think that game can go either way. But do you think minerals sort of wins in John? Right. All the time. So all I'm saying is if the bears lose tomorrow and that gives the Vikings more motivation because then they know, hey, not only do we leapfrog past Seattle in the wildcard chase. We're a half game behind Chicago with a game left against the bears here on December thirtieth. I'm going to get a shot in here. I'm gonna just take it, and we can move on and talk about the wild and the wolves. I don't trust the team that gets blown out by the bills at home. Fair enough. I can't I can't come back on that one. And that might be ultimately the the game that costs Minnesota everything. Yeah. Let's let's just leave that one lane. You can't trust a team. That's gets blown out by the bills at home. Eric that is still one of the great head scratchers. I've seen in sports in two thousand eighteen. How how do you explain what happened that day? And I know it's just one game any given Sunday all of that. But at home in a team that's supposed to get something done. I mean, they were obliterated by the bills in the first half. It was it was a nightmare. You're there. I was here in the studio. But I couldn't believe it twenty seven to six Josh Allen, the rookie, look like Jim Kelly. He was fabulous. And what I remember to the Vikings were a double digit favourite. It may have been a twelve to fourteen point line going in. And I think the bills it became the the greatest road victory, overcoming the odds in recent NFL history. It was truly astounding. And I can remember after the game interviewing Leslie Frazier the bear or the bills defensive coordinator. Of course, former Vikings head coach and lesley's not a. Type of guy. Whatever gloat. He's he's not one of those kinda guys he's he's all class pure class. But you could just see the happiness in his face that he was able to come in and have his defense. Limit Minnesota to six and that that probably is the one game this season in the NFL if you were to say shocker of shockers just stunning outcome. That might be it. Switching gears wild return home mega to Canadians on Tuesday night at home in Saint Paul Montreal their loan visit Florida their loan. Visit on Thursday night wild got thumped by the Oilers seventy-two. No Meco Koivu captain sustained a lower body injury. Via a cheap shot in Calgary loss. The other night on this road trip through the old northwest division and wild struggling as of late. Devon, Nick says not been great. And now the wild find themselves once again in one of those swollen that have become typical. They looked like worldbeaters earlier. And now it's kind of like what is the identity of this team hard to say, they'll come to home is sincere what they can do. But. The concerns I had early in the year are coming back quickly. Absolutely. And it's the inconsistency. We've seen it, you know, in recent years with the Minnesota wild, and it was only a couple of weeks ago Stevie T when you and I were doing the show they had the second most points in the Western Conference. I think third overall in the NHL now Minnesota with thirty two Dallas has more points. Winnipeg Colorado, Nashville, Calgary, Anaheim, Vegas, and San Jose all have more points than Minnesota in the Western Conference. So this is close to being a free fall. And you start looking at Devon Dube, Nick. And I realize you can't pin. It all on the goalie. Your defense ahead of him the blue liners they have to perform as well. But you gave up seven goals last night. Now, Alex Taylor did come in. But Dube Nick started, and it has to be a concern for the wild. They lose seven two. I think it blanked in Calgary to nothing. Oh, they got to win over Vancouver. But what looked like a solid start is quickly Evaporating and some of the comments very Bruce Boudreau after the game last night. I think he he doesn't know where is teams at right now. So they'll come home. They'll get a couple of days off, then they'll try to regroup for Montreal at home. But yeah, I think there has to be concerns there sinking in the west Mark Donald by the way, suspended for two games for kneeing. Minnesota's Meco Koivu along the near boards in that loss at Calgary. When you look at the video, and you look at all the angles, and there's a Twitter feed NHL player safety were they show the video and they break down and why they made their decision and he's got a lower body injury. You can see the left leg returned to the twin cities. He's being evaluated there. There's not a lot of news on me co Koivu and mum's really the word is also we know lower body body injury. Love. Leg was injured. So McCoy grew out of a lineup. But once again, the Canadians in town and the wild once again trying to find their way and find some answers it is a long year. There's going to be ups and downs. But right now, the wild trending down for sure nine minutes down front of five here at C L. News and information station. W C C o. I'm."
