A group of airline pilots as an idea for creating social distancing on planes to get passengers to fly again during the pandemic the pilots union at American Airlines is proposing the government help airlines by buying up enough seats to allow passengers to have no one sitting next to them the allied pilots association says the empty seats would make people feel more comfortable about flying during the pandemic it would allow airlines to add more flights and help prevent layoffs in the aviation industry but there's a steep price tag nearly two billion dollars a month to pay for it empty seats to run the planes that forty percent of last year's capacity air travel is picking up a bit about a half a million passengers a day but that's down eighty percent from last year's levels I'm Jackie Quinn
