Josh. Welcome to milk street. Thank you so much for having me your the food producer of the Youtube web series. Good mythical morning there to hosts Rhett McLaughlin and link. Neil so why do people people enjoy watching folks eat cod sperm dumplings one because called sperm dumplings are delicious You know I really grew up in the Youtube era. I was cloistered in my room around the family. Desktop watching epic mealtime in the guys. You know Sewing up a Turkey inside of a pig inside of a whole cow and It's a bit of a meritocracy on the Internet where you know. You don't need like a a network. Executive may never have signed off on the concept of eating cod sperm dumpling for the gross out factor. But if you put it on the Internet it's a proving ground to see what people people really do. WanNa watch kind of on their own accord and boy do they love cops berm dumplings okay so there is some you know. Would they eat that humor here but some of this is pretty straightforward. You did a taste test the popcorn you taste test of pizza crusts yes. So what is it about just tasting ordinary foods were fifty million people. WanNa Watch it on Youtube. It's really funny. I I actually started my career in digital journalism. But you see so many even legacy publications boasting top ten Greek yogurt brand taste test. And they do that because it brings in just a ton of using isn't a ton of numbers so I mean I think you could call it just a very ordinary taste tests watching guys eat food but I mean it really is service journalism. It's just on Youtube and not in a newspaper. Yeah but but you guys are in the entertainment business and having a list in the USA today or online at eater is one thing But this is about watching your two hosts do the taste test right. So what what do you think is sort of driving entertainment Formula Abiola four one to the to host of sitting there tasting popcorn. Yeah I mean For me it all starts with playing on people's curiosity you know I I think people have this sort of wish fulfillment like I know myself. I would love to sit down with all seventy four TACO bell menu items in just tastes them one by one and decide which is the best and I think. A lot of people have this kind of wish fulfillment fantasy and if they can see someone do something that they've always wanted to do themselves the watch it and then to I mean there's such a skill in I mean it's the skill of being a food critic Not to Exalt Renton link on the level of like a Jonathan golder under a Pete Wells but You know being able to describe things that are in your mouth like being able to describe the physical sensations that are happening to you. It's it's a real skill you know they're just They're good at what they do. One of the other segments I saw was turning foods like twinkies into milk Could you explain how that worked. I kind of like that segment. Yes we those one of the Willett segments a lot of this goes deep into a Cartesian metaphysics and food semantics right so when you say will it milk the we were going more with the definition of nut milk which there is a lot of current legislation on whether that can or can't be called milk but we ran with it regardless and so yeah in that we took twinkies and we just blended them with water soaked him in milk bag for a couple of days and then wrung it out and I mean it was truly truly delicious. I mean it's like you know. Milk bar created an empire based off of cereal milk flavored. Treats why not you know twinkie. Milk cheetos milk did not look delicious. Milk was less delicious but again you know that's a recipe developments about you gotta take risks and I still think if you did like a risotto with the cheeto milk and there ain't got that Or Borio rates Mason crispy and just kind of toasted up the excess oils. Listen that cheeto fat. I think it would have been nice. Yeah I would say cheeto Milka reside. Oh maybe something I'll pass on but maybe I'm just too fashioned so one of the other segments. Yes you do. Are The fancy foods you take a subway foot long and spend five hundred hours making the most expensive version of it You also did a two hundred dollar big Mac. Did you get to eat that big MAC too or just the house. I did get to eat. It actually made a really lovely tar tar out leftover steak so that was awesome But yeah that to me is like the definition of viewer wish fulfillment. Because I mean I think so. Many people have this nostalgic connection to so many different fast food items just like what if you made that as awesome as he possibly could so based on this show. Another youtube shows about food. Where's this all headed yet? Look we look at what's happening to food network right. How many standing stir cooking shows are even left? You know everything on food network is now a competition show where chefs are cooking in. FLOATY says Alton Brown. You know the yells at them and hits him with a bull whip or whatever And then you look at Youtube and look at what bone apetite is doing thing bone apetit you know these single biggest legacy print glossy food MAG is now like five million subscribers deep on youtube in putting out the most educational cooking content on any platform. Honestly I think we're just getting into an era where you're going to see more diverse voices some more just educational food content that people want to see. And it's Kinda funny because it's now like less extreme stuff than what is on network Org. TV Josh thank you very much for being on Milk
