Listen: Phillies, Mets, Nola discussed on Joe Giglio
"Off sports radio ninety four WIP. Joe Jillian with you. Except for the Phillies and the Mets tonight seven ten first pitch up at Citi field in New York, where we know the Phillies have struggled in recent years Phillies, always struggle with the Mets and a couple of years ago when the Mets were a team going to the World Series or back to the playoffs. Twenty fifteen twenty sixteen. I got that. I'm the Mets would come down here or up there just beat up on a bad Phillies team. It is reversed the Phillies are clearly the better team than the Mets hasn't mattered. This year Phillies are five and eight against the Mets Aaron Knowle's beaten, the Phillies, it'd be the Mets accuse me three times other than that not much. So the Phillies will hope tonight. And I I was thinking about this the other day when the Phillies renounced their rotation. They redid it Nola was supposed to be Saturday. They decided to move up to Friday. They threw it out there as this this make sure no it gets to starts against the Braves. You know when we get to the last week or two of the season. And that makes sense I thought there was another reason to do it. And why the Phillies may have done this. Tomorrow. Syndergaard takes the mound for the Mets on Sunday. It's Jacob degrom who's having really ridiculous season. And it's going to be difficult to win both of those games. You know, the Matt start for the Mets was the easiest match up for the Phillies to win. I wonder if part of the thinking was let's just get this one instead of matching up Nola against Syndergaard or degrom. Let's get one. And then if you have the first game you figure out a way to split against their too big pitchers and you get out of their series win for the first time. Now, if the Phillies win tonight, the strategy make works because you got your went under your belt, and then you worry about splitting the next to the Phillies loose tonight with Nola. They don't have no odor throw against Syndergaard or degrom. So the strategy could backfire quickly Dan the northeast what's up, Dan? Hey, Joe are you doing good, man? What's up? You know, you kinda stole my thunder because I wanted to talk about Hodgkin's, but with the pictures, I like that. But you know, what the lineup, you know games. Trying to do whatever we can to try to get something going, but Hodgkin's younger guys on the team. Got to watch the veterans like us stugotzs Cabrera at Wilshire, Rama Sinise guy the way they handled themselves at the plate Hodgkin's. I don't know. What he she overthinking? You see a ball right down the Middle East got to be aggressive Easter, meat and potatoes guy. He is. And he hasn't he? It's amazing. If you go back, and you look at his numbers since he arrived here last August, he is as streaky of a hitter as I've ever seen in a good hitter. You know because with bad hitters could be really streaky. But we wanted a guidance had a ridiculous start to his career then he cooled off last September. He was hot this April bad in may good in June and July and bats is the beginning. August it's like every other month is good or bad. Joe? It seemed like he was doing nothing. And then after that homerun derby when he came back for MAC, he was hitting the ball. Just don't seem white pizza Grasso. I don't know. What the hell? You know, you see pitch be aggressive. I agree. Now, Dan, I agree. I don't know what they're waiting for. What? He he's selective hitter. And I like that. And I appreciate your call, Dan. But I do think if he has a first pitch fastball. Now, he likes just hit it he streaky and the Phillies have to hope that hot streak is coming soon. It is that we've seen this recycling. He's going to get a hot streak sued for the Phillies. They better hope. It's not too late. He's in the lineup tonight. Let's talk about this lineup, which of course, brought to you by del friscos steakhouse. They'll Frisco steakhouse for the best dining in the city. Reservations at del friscos dot com for the Phillies leading off while they're hottest hitter for the past month. I'm happy to say that my guy lows Carlos Santana playing first base leading off batting second left. Hoskins? Batting third tonight. Yes, I'm saying batting third tonight. The center fielder Aaron out tear. That's their batting fourth Jose bautisa. He's in right field batting fifth as ruble. Compare the Phillies go with a pair x Mets like as recently as a month ago. Ex Mets Petit stank Cabrera hitting four or five banning six second baseman Cesar Hernandez betting seven to shortstop. And it's that's a good at-bats had a home run off of Matt's about two weeks ago here in Philadelphia that'd be shortstop Scott Kingery, batting eight the catcher, Royal farro batting ninth. Aaron Nola, Santana Hoskins, Al tear, but Teesta Cabrera Hernandez. Kingery El Faro Nola sounds like runs. It sounds like a big knife. A month ago or a month and a half ago when they had sent down I'll tear altera, Batista Cabrera. Well, if you ask me for the season who would be three hole in a postseason run. It would have been what if I told you Jack that on September seventh pennant race cleanup hitter Jose Bautista now that would have been crazy that would have been great. Well, that's that's gay. That's the Phillies for the Mets tonight. Brandon Nimmo centerfield leading off Jeff McNeil at second base. Michael Conforto has been hot lately. Batting third and playing left field. Jay Bruce in right field. Todd Frazier playing third base batting fifth. Dominic Smith their first baseman bat. Six. Kevin Pollak either catcher bet seven Jose race somehow someway, still playing playing shortstop batting eight. And Stephen Matt's does the pitching and batting nights the fills. We know where they are three and a half behind the Braves every win every game. Feels like a must win at this point. Series. It starts tonight. They throw their best pitcher against one. They should be able to hit a little bit. Enjoy the game. I'll talk to you right afterwards. Of course."
