Listen: President Trump, President And President Reagan discussed on Glenn Beck
"Connecting with your Maria's. Thomas unin yard touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage in overtime. That's your iheartradio weekend. Sports time capsule. For those of us who follow President Trump's tweets, you know. He tweets s he thinks and as he speaks staccato style short sentences awkward pronunced, pronunciation, sometimes misspellings awkward capitalization. Whether it matters from that's up to you. But what makes this tweet earlier today special? It is it is outside his normal communication technique. His very consistent pattern. There is an odd capitalization to this. But I don't think he wrote this tweet, I think someone else wrote this tweet with the intention of it coming in his voice, and yet it is intended to be what the establishment would call presidential. He tweeted, I am pleased to inform you that I will address the nation on the humanitarian and national security crisis on our southern border tomorrow Tuesday night at nine pm eastern. Tell me when you ever recall, President Trump referring to the crisis on our southern border as being quote humanitarian in nature. President Trump's base. Does not view our southern border crisis as a humanitarian crisis. The humanitarian view is looking at the crisis with the individuals being citizens of the world and not illegal aliens seeking to enter a country against the law outside the law. To use the term humanitarian crisis is to use the language of the United Nations and activists and people from other countries. So why did he use it? It's important. What President Trump is doing is. Establishing this issue and his approach to it. As more than just playing to the base the base believes accurately that what's going on on our southern border is a national security crisis. Sarah Sanders has referred to terror threats coming across our border. There have been multiple references to Chinese opioids using that route to come into our country. But the bigger question is this how long can the president sustain the shutdown if the if he loses the American people? How long can he sustain the shutdown and a rigid approach a tough negotiating stance? If Nancy Pelosi has the upper hand Nancy Pelosi can't beat him in the game. But she has the refs on her side. And for those of you who ever watched a game. We always think the refs are calling the game for the other side. There can be no doubt in this example, that the reps are on the side of the Democrats. There can be no question. And if you want to argue that then I have nothing more to say to you and President Trump knows that. So why give this address now when he's got his state of the union coming up on what January nineteen twenty two days away. What makes this issue at this specific time worthy of a presidential address? Immigration and stemming the flow of illegal immigrants is an issue that President Trump desperately wants and needs to solve now. I'm not going to suggest that it can be solved. It's far more complicated than that. But he can make a big difference. Big difference is more than just a border wall. But the border wall has become the area of focus. It has to be a border wall. Plus he can't lose on the issue of the border wall in December just before the break slow news cycle. They start leaking trial balloons out of the White House. They start allowing it to be said that the president's going to cut a deal with the Democrats with Pelosi about to come in. It was sort of a good faith. Gesture it was sort of like the Irani's in nineteen eighty when President Reagan was elected they held onto the hostages until the moment. Reagan was elected, and they freed the hostages Carter had hoped that would be his last hurrah. He'd get the hostages freed Justice. He's handing over the the the torch of power to President Reagan the Irani's were smarter than that they held onto the hostages. So that Reagan would be able to claim victory in Reagan's victory was I've just learned that our hostages have been released. The message was clear to the American public those who voted for him. And those who didn't that this is a man who wields power on the national and international stage. This is a man who the rogue Muslim terrorists respect and out of that respect they bow before him American needed that moment after four years of Jimmy Carter. This is a case where President Trump in December tried to say to the Democrats with Nancy Pelosi coming into power speaker. The house someone that he does respect he won't say that publicly, but he does respect her and you have to respect her because of her effectiveness as speaker. There's no doubt about that. So the president offered hey, I'll pull back on this thing. And we'll cut a deal. We'll start our relations off on a firm footing. When that happened before he could cut a deal. Rush limbaugh. Ann Coulter some folks on the most far right with big audiences and a lot of influences screamed, bloody murder Trump's too smart to lose on that issue. He pulled back intransigence. That's when he said at that fateful meeting with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. I'll shut down the government you won't have to Chuck. I will it was a bold statement. And that's what he's ended up needing to do the government shutdown is the moment that he shows that the stakes are high Democrats understand that. The Democrats know that they're in the catbird seat. They know that they've got Trump looking like a bad guy for shutting down the government. While all this is happening getting very little attention is an influx of illegals to the border. Now, the Democrats need some of those folks to die, and that's happened. We had a child who who died from the flu we had a child who died of presumably dehydration the border patrols made out to be these thuggish villains. They're not. But they're made out to be the stugotz villains turning white children who are just about to die. It's hard to push the narrative that that's the fault of the parents, even though it is the coyotes have upped their efforts believing that this is a time to bring more people over not because they care to get more people into this country. But because for some of these traffickers, they're finding that humans are more lucrative, or at least an additional revenue stream to the usual narcotics. And other things guns in different things that they traffic across the border, President Trump knows that if he's going to make a difference on this issue before the Democrats sink their teeth into the issue of impeachment before they get him potentially on his heels before they really consolidate their power if he's going to get the money for the border wall, which he promised his base. He was going to do. He's got to do it. Now. So the Democrats say well just opened the government backup. And we'll start negotiating with you. Then. Playing. The role of Lucy is a Democrats the issue of opening the government is that football opening the government and negotiating one more time. So there's Lucy telling Charlie Brown come on Charlie come up here and kick this ball playing the role of Charlie Brown is Donald Trump saying if I opened the government again, if."
