Listen: Cam Newton, NFL And CBS discussed on The M Zone
"To the gresh show. Hey, man. Thank you so much got to give you a heartfelt safe and congratulations by by really mean, a the national conversation. We're having right now. Call him now. Wait, eight five five two one two four CBS coast to coast and in America's had known as Canada urine found CBS sports radio. It is the gresh show. I get you for another hour and twenty minutes here at eight five five two one two four CBS eight five five two one two four two two seven. I've had a lot of college football today some stuff on the Heisman. But now getting into some NFL, and I gotta say the response from America has been underwhelming to NFL talk relative to your individual team. Zaha? I should say teams, plural. There are two double digit win teams in the NFC and everybody else is either average or terrible. So maybe that's a part of it. Maybe there's just a bunch of maybe there's just apathy in Philly or Washington or Minnesota Carolina places like that. Who knows me people in Houston like gap will nine in a row, and we're doing well. But we know we're going to get become playoff time. In LA. It's well, we'll come close. But. Are we really going to beat the chiefs? Maybe there are some people who just don't want to talk about their NFL team because they don't believe they can go all the way eight five five two one two four CBS eight five five two one two four two two seven Ray in Las Vegas wants to talk about the Oakland Raiders. And normally I would say there is, but they don't deserve that based on. What's happened this year? Ray you're on the gresh show on CBS sports radio. How are you? All right. Thirty four hundred Christmas, and all you know. I guess Ray decided to have a conversation with somebody at thirty four hundred wool Benning lingo. There's I'm like that. Or maybe there was some other sort of deal that was going on eight five five two one two four CBS eight five five two one two four seven giants. Odell Beckham ruled out with a bruised quad. I'm mentioning morale is on the DA show once again because he is the biggest owed L Beckham just bought smooch. I've ever seen. Boy, he showed some real guts going after that onside kick against the bears. God. It's amazing to me that the giants right now. Are sort of held hostage by Odell Beckham. He's their best player. Arguably he's their biggest personality he is out with a bruised quad. He will not play on Sundays gay in Sunday's game against the Redskins. And the giants you're going to rue the day. They signed that guy long-term that and the fact that they picked another coach who really is in head coaching material and this time around that's Pat Shurmur. But if if you look at some of the storylines in the NFL right now. There's a lot of things going on a lot of different organizations, for example, we had Tim in Knoxville who called about the patriots and Tom Brady is going to be Tom Brady's last year. What's going to happen with Bill Belichick that's still looming over that organization. And I think you can go down the list of all the teams in the NFL have the Buffalo Bills found their permanent quarterback in Josh Allen. Is anybody ready to make that statement yet or because the bills can't seem to get out of their own way? No one can properly evaluate Josh Allen in that spot. Who should be the next coach of Sam darnold, but the New York Jets because I know about you, folks. And maybe there's some jet fans out there. Don't you it feel like Todd Bowles is about to get run. Mean they've lost six interro right now. And I know that everyone who reports on that team around the jets are saying, well, the sources are indicating then, you know, they're not necessarily ready to push Todd Bowles off the plank so to speak. What if they lose that the bills this week? Because the jets final three games are the Texans the Packers and at the patriots. It is very unlikely that the jets are going to win forget all three just one of those games down the stretch. Right. Just give me one. I don't even know if they can do that. So there's a chance that the jets can end up on a ten game losing streak, and then they're gonna wake up and say, well, we need to get rid of our coach come on. Statements cincinnati. Is the rubber gonna meet the road eventually is Marvin Lewis gonna go work in the front office. So that a new voice can be heard in Cincinnati and. Would they dare? Nain Hugh Jackson the head coach in Cincinnati. Especially if Marvin Lewis stayed net organization, can you imagine that? Yeah. I know he had a great relationship with Andy Dalton and everything, but there's a referendum out on Andy Dalton as well. We don't know who's going to be the next coach of the Browns. And you know, if if you start looking at quarterback situations. Across the NFL. The forty Niners have their guy. The cardinals think they have their guy Seattle and the Rams have their guy. The falcons have to be leery of Matt Ryan as he gets older, but they've got their guy. I don't think the buccaneers have theirs. I don't think either fits or famous. Shame king crab leg. I don't think either one of those guys on a long-term answer yet, Cam and Carolina, you'd better start grooming. Somebody in the warlords because breeze can't play forever. The lions have got to make a decision on their quarterback. Long term Packers have theirs, but who's going to be their coach? The Vikings are renting a guy short term. And then they're going to blow it up in two more years the bagel or the bears excuse me think they have their guy in Trubisky. The giants it's very much an open referendum on who the quarterbacks gonna be the Redskins. I mean, if Alex Smith doesn't play again, what do they do a quarterback because they're going to be in the middle of the draft. And I do believe there was compensation that was sent to Kansas City. They might hinder the Redskins ability to draft a quarterback Beagles have two but one's gonna come free. And the Cowboys have a guy that, you know, Jerry Jones Brian businessman, but he's terrible general manager the Cowboys have guy they're gonna get too much money to. So there coaching questions their quarterback questions and they're just team questions. And let's get to the phones Joe is in. Adam the trucker Adam is in Virginia next on the gresh show, CBS sports radio. What's up, Adam? Hey, man. Always enjoy your show. Listen, I'm calling on the Carolina Panthers. I'm wondering if there is a coaching problem, or I know there's a lack of talent in places special office supply and skin what some fifteen nation your lot. No cameras hurt team out. Thanks for being a lot better position than they are right now, Adam so you identify as a Carolina fan. I I would assume is that correct? So let me ask you about. Cam Newton is Cam Newton. Just a great athlete playing the position of quarterback. Or is Cam Newton a leader of men. I'd like to know from you a panther fan. I would say he's Alito man because he's taking a team with nothing put him on his back more than once and got at least guiding them to the playoffs and not much talent around the guys on for twenty thousand yards and hasn't had a number one receiver since his rookie year. That's a that's a hell of a backup of an argument. Right there. Adam. Thank you. That's good job by Adam. Right. They're contributing because I see great numbers with Cam Newton. But I don't know. Here's my struggle with Cam Newton. The numbers are really good. But what I don't know is do guys have to follow him. Because he so amazingly talented. They have no other choice or do the other fifty two players on that roster and the other forty four guys on game day. Do they play for Cam Newton? That's where I struggle. And that's why I think at times you see the Panthers kinda go into these weird walls. Right. Like, they were six and two. And they've lost four row. I mean, they got it handed to him in Pittsburgh. They lost a one point game delighons. They lose a three point game to the Seahawks. And they lost by touchdown at Tampa last week. Like, I just don't. I that's dumb. And I wanna like Cam like I think his his flavor if I can say that as a honky his flavor is good for the league the way dresses allegedy Carey's. I'll see him not be poo button. Pouty? Impress conferences. But I can get over that. I just don't know if. When it's down to two and the rent is due to the people say, you know, what that Newton if we if we do our job Newton's go. Find a way to get us there. I I struggle with that. I really do Ryan is in Nashville on the gresh show on CBS sports radio. What's up Ryan? You raise a great point all these questions around the league Miami Dolphins fan, and I'll give you I'll give you an answer to a question that a lot of teams. Have you got the dolphin hill? He's been there forever. How many guys are in their sixty year? And you still don't know. Guy. Right. Great great, great choice. Guide. No. The guy for five years going to at least. A conference championship game. I want to be traded somewhere else. And they won't be the guy. In the Jacksonville. In denver. Right now. The titans are coming up on that. You're next. And they're asking Nashville. Gelling yet your window true across the board bugs out rescue. Ryan. That is a great call. And I never thought of it that way. Now, you do have to have the team to be able to get there to get to a conference title game. But I and that may be isn't the only metric us. But Ryan makes a really good point. You see it or you don't within a couple of years. He's right. He's right. Look if the Kansas City Chiefs get beat in the divisional round, are we going to sit there and say that Pat Mahomes isn't the guy why do people thinking? Yep. That's the I there we go. That's our dude ten years. Let's invest in him. And he he and he brought up the two names that come up the most. I mean, if you haven't made a decision on Andy Dalton as to whether he is a world championship caliber quarterback. Then I can't help you can't help you. What I think some would struggle with might be say the Joe flacco of the world, right? So Joe flacco, and I'm trying to I'm trying to look up his. His career pretty quickly. Because I thought it was early on. And Joe flacco career they ended up winning that championship. It was a couple of years in. So I think that five year rule might work. You know, Ryan you're onto something. Within five years, you either see it or you don't. And maybe it'll get there for one reason or another, but you can kind of look at your quarterback. And no, that's an interesting theory. I like that. College football Heisman Trophy NFL? I."
