Listen: Football, Rams And Chicago Bears discussed on Under The Hood
"Chris black for the next two hours. I think we got a football game. We can talk about do eat fried. Yeah. Absolutely. We do we have a football game. We'll talk about Lawson talk about the some baseball the winter meetings getting underway on Sunday by with that football. We're going to talk to a guy played the game. The game of northwestern. Played the game with the bears. He's sacked a few Green Bay quarterbacks in his life. Corey Wootton will join us from FOX thirty two. You see him? I was watching their post game the other day 'cause we Murph and I had Luke Canales on. And Lou mentioned that the post game was going to be on my fifty Sooners that bears game. The giants ended I flew over and watch the guys. And so we'll talk to Corey Wootton at around seven thirty. But a lot to discuss I don't know when the last time there's been a game with this much anticipation this much excitement building for the Chicago Bears. Obviously, the the national spotlights there because they decided to flex in a few weeks ago, and that was a good thing. And my God, I'll be doing a show and Sunday from four to seven outwear covered in your co work today out of twin peaks out in just leave all the equipment during the engineer just sticks around. I think art is going to sit there until you guys get their Sunday night. Absolutely. Just gonna stay. Twin peaks staff not a bad idea. So we'll be out there on a Sunday. And that means that you guys will be here. The black Abdala Meller trio will be here from nine to noon. Yeah. The fun fast. We will. We'll get your afer Samatha football leading up to noon, and we'll talk bears and Rams Fred, you're right. You know when the schedule came out, and we saw the opponents the bears would have this season. I circled this Rams game as the game. I was looking forward to the most. Okay. You know, we always look forward to the Packers and the Vikings got so much lines. But those two teams every year. But when you get a team on the rise who may be one of the best in the NFL when the schedule comes out, and then that team actually lives up to the hype. Right. It makes it all all the more better. And then the cherry on top is the fact that this bears team is is good. So then it wasn't even a let's wait to the summer to see a great team coming into Chicago. It's or maybe we can beat this team it shapes up for a fantastic game on Sunday night football. So you're right. I'm looking forward to it. It should be a great time. And hopefully people come on out to twin peaks to see you guys before the game in should be a great weekend. Three one two three three two three seven seven six concerns. You have for this bears squad going into this game. I've got a couple run through them. I know you're a season ticket holder, and you guys have had season tickets for longtime your family and. Do you move some your tickets or do you just give some of your tickets away? We usually use them use them. Okay. The game. It's almost rare that we don't actually use. Okay. In in all the years that I've lived downtown since I was eighteen so I'm thirty three hundred so that's fifteen years of living downtown, and then when we would commute from Libertyville. I mean, we usually always use the tickets. What's the question? My brother has taken and he would do both go to a lot of games, and he would take pictures of games and things like that. And the slowly over the years where the bears got to be bad. He would still keep the tickets go to as many games and this year. I think he kept a couple of games. He didn't keep this one. But did this change your? I mean, obviously, you're going to have to be here. Bright and early right and bushy tailed holiday morning. Oh, you know, obviously. That's what we do. They changed it because it's nice for you. Because you lived out in the city not too too bad. I technically can walk the Soldier Field. If do pull a March of the penguins and walk to the lakefront like that. I mean, that's how I feel when you're all bundled up. It's so cold which will be on Sunday night. But like. Like, yeah. It's. Yeah. You have to adjust a little bit and Monday morning for capping company. I'll be here. Bright and early. But it's no big deal. It's what we do you go to the game you wake up early. You make do then you talked about what the schedule I came out. And I kept saying when the scheduled came out as a man the bear schedules. So tough you got the patriots coming to town. You got the Rams who are getting better and getting better and doing it quickly. They showed last year would they could do and how they were getting better so quickly. I went looked we talked about this before the season began at you. And I were doing shows together. And we talked about the worst. I they just for the heck of it to look and see how the bears did worse. The first we'll get to a lot of the current stuff all week long. People have been talking about that. We'll hear from Fangio in roquan Smith, and Sean McVay and stuff like that. But I was looking at this in eighty two okay? Before the eighty five bears, the bears were three and six hundred eighty two that was a strike year. That's why I was a shortened season only nine games in eighty three eight in third place and then eighty four ten and six eighty five the special. Year fifteen in one and then they were in first again in eighty six fourteen and two in two thousand six when they went to the Super Bowl the bears in two thousand and four or five and eleven. In fourth place and back then. Was that was fourth place at fourth was the worst. I think hitting five teams until later in in the NFC the division. They played it. So they were forth they went from five and eleven it. Oh, four to eleven and five and five and first place and then in oh, six thirteen and three first place and the Super Bowl. So the bears who last year were in last place, and we talked about last year there were eight teams in last place last year. And remember the bears were ranked as the seventh most likely shared from worst to first. Now a lot of that though, Frederick since we're too we're actually the number one team, right? And in first place, right? I allowed though was before Khalil Mack was traits. Because I know like, listen, if you don't have perspective on on this situation than I don't really know how I can have a conversation with you because many people you better find out two hours, many people like the chirp up and say, well, you thought that this team might be waving yours, obviously. Now, I'm just saying listen when things change you have to change your perspective on what is going to take place. So if Ryan pace goes out in lands one of the best players defensively have the best players in the league. And it completely changes your defense and takes it from middle of the league's statistically, and then bumps it to number one. Like if you look at something like Devi away they were fifteenth last year they'd been number one basically since the third week of the season. They've been the best defensive team in football this year hands down when that happens, you have to change your perspective of and you bring up a last to first, and it's like, that's why once that trade wind. Down. I made the statement that your championship window is open now. Right. And a lot of people that go give it a couple of years give it time. They've got a young quarterback in. No when you have a rookie quarterback. That's win the championship windows open in today's NFL. If you don't have to spend twenty five percent of your cap on a quarterback that is the most beneficial way to build the team and to go from worst to first because boom, you have all the high priced players on defense. You give weapons to your quarterback. If your quarterback can kind of figure it out you can make a championship run. Now when you're staying windows open. You're not necessarily saying this is the year you win the Super Bowl. No. Or I mean. Guess could. Because if the windows open who says that can't happen, right? Because even the bears that was why I went to look back bears the year before they won the Super Bowl loss to the forty Niners. Okay. The championship game. Now that this bears team will necessarily get to a championship game. But you know, you take little steps. They'll have Mitch Trubisky for four years. Sure right before they have to start paying them. So if in fact, he's the guy that they're gonna end up paying, well, you're talking about little steps. Look at the Rams last year. They lost wild card weekend at home. Yeah. You know to Atlanta, and then they move on. And this year they bounced back, and they are just a a better team offensively team overall. So I I agree with you the little steps is definitely something. But your the the sand is coming out of the hourglass because the contract for Trubisky is what the window is right? The moment you have to give him an extension, and let's not joke about this. No matter if you are a Trubisky truth or or someone who's skeptical on them entre Bisky when his contract comes up based on how he's playing now he will get the biggest contract in Chicago Bears history. He's a quarterback. And when that deal comes out it's going to be the biggest contract probably in the league until the next quarterback comes up because that's the way it kind of works. And at that point the bears will have to Ryan pace we'll have to restructure how he builds the team, right? And your hope as a franchise when you have to pay that quarterback that that guy's good enough to make up for the fact that you can't spend elsewhere. And like, that's the thing. I point to if you look at a team like Seattle when they were at their best winning the Super Bowl and getting to the SuperBowl. What was the key? It was that Russell Wilson was on his rookie contracting. They could spend all over the defense. And what happened Fred once? They had to pay Russell Wilson. Yeah. Then the dynamic change because you can't pay all the defenders. And now it kind of now you have to win games differently. Russell Wilson is almost good enough to make up for all the the negative parts. They don't have on the roster. But he's not Aaron Rodgers. He's not Tom Brady now. So you kind of fall into that weird wildcard you're trying to get their each and every year, and you never really do. So the whole the whole thing is your window is on the rookie contract. And the key is if you can get that rookie quarterback playing above a rookie level as soon as possible. Yeah. That's when you can go and win a Super Bowl. And I think that's one of the biggest questions you talk about quarterbacks played up to par and playing the way you need to play. We knew what? Mitchell Trubisky was we at least we thought as he was slowly. But surely coming up the game against the Vikings was not a good game for him. No, okay. And he gets hurt. He does not play in those two games. There's all week long. I mean, once we've pretty much realized that Trubisky will be playing all week long. What the main topic of conversation has been here on the station is Aaron Donald Khalil back, and how you're gonna you know, those two how they're going to block or how you gonna stop at Aaron Donald there's a huge question out there about how Mitchell Trubisky is gonna bounce back. Not all the after the injury. But also after a bad game against Minnesota. And you know, timing with quarterbacks is. And receivers is a big thing. And what how his timing it'll be affected after that.."
