Listen: Chargers, CBS And Kansas City Chiefs discussed on CBS Sports Radio
"About the Los Angeles. Chargers who are nine and three and still trying to win the AFC west is they're battling up against the Kansas City Chiefs. And what a statement at was in Pittsburgh really tailored to Hass last weekend down big in the first they come on back and they get the victory. Thirty three to thirty now up for the chargers is coming up on Sunday is a match up at home against the Cincinnati Bengals. And we'll see how fair up against the Bengals who are really struggling after. What was a good start to the season? So let's walk them in a third year linebacker philosophy Angeles chargers. And that's your tavis Brown is kind enough to join us right now on CBS sports radio Davis attack yelp here in New York City. Appreciate a few minutes, and our, you know, palm good. Thank you. Thank you for coming on. So how did this team turn it around in the second half? Because when you went into locker room it was twenty three to seven the Steelers scored a big touchdown. But then like I said you win the football game thirty three to thirty. It was just a monster. We knew what we capable of. We know what we can do. And we just had to go on to ask you and do what we do a big part of this story this year in the NFL has been a team in your division the Kansas City Chiefs, and you played them week one. And you did lose the football game. Dea feel like even though you guys are nine and three. And you're right in this race to win the division. Still. Do you feel like this team isn't getting the respect that it deserves me? I honestly we we don't really care what we know what kind of team we haven't. We just focus on their door. We doing competed Halloween every week when this team got off to that one and to start, and we know the the perception about the charges that they get off to the slow starts each and every year when they got up to the one in to start, and then you're able to turn around in the last nine eight and one just had this team turn it around to get to the record that you are today is a huge -ccomplish man by the coaches and the players putting together Greek game every week and just going to ask you. In the player when you had those first three games where you had a loss to Kansas City. Then you beat the bills before losing to the Rams just what the coaches what had some of the leaders say in the locker room about turning this thing around. Well, hopefully, the beginning it was the beginning of the year. And you know, we had a lot of the season the place just to get on track. And do what we do. This Brown is my guest right now on CBS sports radio. What does it mean to this team to get Joey Bosa back now in return for the last three games a huge bonus. I just to have him back into his body presidents, and what he brings his to have how difficult was that? Now playing without him early on and still trying to find your own with this defense law me, I mean, we had guys who step up there was able to to fill in for him. But you know, Joe is JoAnne who we're here. Big now tell you someone that's really impressed me. And is impressed. The entire National Football League has been the rookie Derwin James just what about the play of Derwin James not only to play this. Well, but especially in your number one, man, he's a baller man that God is he loved the game you go out and compete at a high level. You could just tell you love again, he brings so much energy and a whole lot of Cardi. What is he like as a professional and and a teammate away from the field? Oh, man. He's a great guy, man. He's smart guy to talk about ball coming like myself. He's always talking about buying you. Enjoy the whole holy the game football. Did you realize that he would have this potential of a season the minute when you met him was it evident right when you met him? Of course, he was from the beginning. Guy was out here making plays. And it just seemed like it was a natural team. So he always showed up play make play making third year. Linebacker for the chargers, you tavis Brown is my guest right now on CBS sports radio. Getafe is for you. Personally. How has your game now grown your number three? I just say my my my knowledge of the guys are trying to do. The beef is how they are trying to tackle at a decent is my understanding them that is way better than you. Look at your first year statistically, you're able to have some success even as a fifth round draft pick right away number one just coming out of Akron. How is that transition? Just so easy for you. Because the numbers that they back it up that you've been having a lot of success in this league. Right. I mean, just you know, my love for the game coming up I helped me out a little bit. And then guys when I came in guys took me in and just help me. Learn the system so accredited to those guys, how'd you end up Akron. That was the best off. I had come in high school. And it's amazing because you were a two star recruit, you registered three hundred and forty tackles in college morning and a half tackles for loss sixteen and a half sacks, instill you. You're only a fifth round draft pick. Just how frustrating was the the draft process for you. This kind of our relive that. But you know, it is what it was. I'm glad to be in grad charter. So you know, what it is? I'm over there now, but to those experiences what happened, you know, ended up at Akron and being passed over weight into the fifth round. Does it put a little chip on your shoulder and make you be the player that you are today, of course. But you know. I'm blessed to be able to be here. Well, man, just to go on to do what I love. So. Tell us a little bit about your journey though about how you ended up in the league. And and what it takes to be in this spot. You know plan what you're doing right now with the chargers sacrifice hard work in this another ground put into this to get where we just love for the game grown up as a kid was the goal always to get to the NFL. Of course, always great passion. And when do you remember I picking up a football or watching football as a kid say when I was I started playing when I was about six so six years old. But I was sure I was playing before that. And who was some of the players who is your team that that you really looked up to us. With the players and team that you were a fan of growing up. I was in March I'll play running back early only life big Marshall Faulk Salambek, it was Lewis and Patrick Willis. How did you play as a running back as a kid was pretty decent house coming in the Miyagi always trying to run people in? How difficult would it be the taffy? Now known it from the other end. Pretty difficult. Games. So how did you make the transition to linebacker? What was it for you? Funny story. I remember running back older guy that move down from Washington JV. He was getting a lot of room. They're running back. And I was kind of got pushed aside coaches in. Linebacker just to hit that guy over. There is funny now looking back at it that now you're in the NFL, and you see the way what happened in high school. Oh, yeah. This is funny. I just. Is it was meant to be. What did you know that you can make it to the league? Honestly, I always believe I could always been this always been a golden mine. It's always been where I wanna be at in life and to be here's a bus rapid number James Brown right now on CBS sports radio. What's the vibe around this team because it's been a fun story this year watching you guys? Oh, man. We we enjoy coming to work coaches. Enjoy coming to where we just enjoy being around each other. And now, you're number two being in Los Angeles. Just what is that? Like. Everybody has seemed to be adjusted now just going. Never have. And you know, so much is made of the homefield advantage or lack of home field advantage. I should say with the chargers being out in LA. What's your take? When it comes to the homefield advantage discussion with guys playing at the stubhub center. We just go out there. And we do what we do. We we don't let that. We play. Does it help you at all though when you go on the road? I don't know. No, I don't know mayhem hers, but all the same on the way out with Getafe Brown. The third year linebacker right now on CBS sports radio for the Los Angeles. Chargers when the chargers hired Anthony lend your head football coach, I was really curious to see how we would be as the HCC your number one slow start. But then finished off really strong you guys to win some ball games down the stretch. However now and your number two, you guys have found a little bit of consistency. What you've been able to do be nine in three take me on an inside view of of playing for coach Lynn out in LA. Oh, my. It's awesome. You know, he's a he's a player coach he understand the game. He played a game. He knows. Last one for details. Brown who joins us on CBS sports radio show. So when you see the Bengals on film. They've been having a rough rough go at it these days just what you see on the Bengals when you look at. A good team. You know, they work with those show for they got great talent good team. So we gotta we gotta bring us. We appreciate the time. Thanks so much best of luck. The rest of the way. I appreciate it. Appreciate your tavis Brown. Joining us right there on CBS sports radio that really be something after the career that he's had in that draft class when it comes to the chargers talk about quarterback, obviously in Philip rivers. It'd be really be something if this is finally the year that the chargers went a Super Bowl with Philip rivers because you have Big Ben with to ally with two rings as well Philip rivers statistically as been a hall of fame quarterback statistically, but the one thing no one knock got him. Is he doesn't win the postseason doesn't have that ring? Now, it's not going to be easy with their schedule too. And the chiefs of tough schedule it's easy to win this division. Again, get there on the game back you play the chiefs though, the Bengals I on a short week. This could be the year. This is the very interesting. I'm still not buying full stock and I picked the Super Bowl before the year. But after the weather seasons played out I would still go Kansas City in the pats right now and then everybody else. But the charges our team they keep on winning eighty one in their last nine very very impressive CBS the Super Bowl season. By the way, continue Sunday with exciting regional action playoff amount. Could positions are up for grabs in critical AFC match ups when Baltimore battles Patrick Mahomes in the chiefs. Andrew luck leads Indian USA take on the Texans and the Philip rivers. Fermented, Philip remers lead chargers hosts, the Cincinnati Bengals check your local listings and kick off your day."
