Listen: Joe STA, Bernie And Norway discussed on Lars Larson
"To welcome to the program burning Joe STA retired sheriff and retired police chief as well. Bernie, welcome back to the program. So I want to start with this first of all in one city, you know, in in an area where you've served as a law enforcement chief and a share of the city council has started hiring people who are not going to be cops. They'll wear a uniform, they'll be called public safety specialists. And and I'm concerned about the idea that cities who are I think a lot of cities are acting in an anti cop manner. They don't like the cops. They don't want to let the cops do their jobs are now saying, let's hire cops who are not police officers. Don't make arrests don't carry a gun don't drive around in a patrol car. Can't even drive around in a patrol car. They're gonna given some pepper spray and probably a whistle. And that's about it. I'm worried that what they're gonna do is try to start taking apart the police by saying we don't need all these people running around with guns and arrest powers. Tell me your thoughts on it. The concept is as old as time at least four or five decades ago when police departments employ two people called safety specialists or crime prevention specialists, and their job was to the community. And to do the things that police officers didn't have Mr.. Norway's expertise, but their job is to leverage to correct about police officers. In other words. Officers when something happens a community that we have a community meeting was there was a flicker public burglaries. Police can communicate effectively without the police officers to go targeted eventually people wind up concerns."
