Listen: Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans And NFL discussed on WGR Programming
"Ooh. Me knows about those guys blocking. No, no for me to be able to have success me. Do my job. Guys, so credit? You know, they definitely deserve. So hats off to those guys for mass exists. I last year on ESPN radio and doing the right thing. And we'll hear from the college football words a little bit sort of sounded like that. Derrick Henry familiar with that you read the script. You think everybody else? Derrick Henry was out there doing what we kind of expect Derrick Henry to do or have for most of his career, which is in my mind exceed expectations. Derrick Henry was Heisman Trophy winner in Alabama. Derrick Henry with part of one of the college football teams in the country. And Derrick Henry was a guy that I did not think would have this kind of top end potential or success of the NFL level. Now prior to this. I think is career his previous season high this year had been around sixty yards or at least his average. He had not been a guy who had been like the rest of this titans team performing overly well on a consistent basis. But that being said, he's a guy that is definitely exceeded my expectations at the NFL level for being his eyes and still being able to make guys missed to be able to move laterally and change direction near the line of scrimmage the way he did on plays like that ninety nine yard plays like that ninety nine yard run that got some of our friends and former colleagues like Darren rebel roasted by the titans Twitter account last night. I saw this rebel posted it on his Instagram where he said referring referencing that run. Please don't call that one of the best runs in NFL history. If you call it anything call at one of the worst tackling jobs to which the Tennessee titans official team account responded in all caps. Shut up nerd hashtag. Tighten up. You get the idea. The titans are not here for your slander. And the titans are an interesting team. I remember there was a groundswell of support for the titans a few weeks ago. This is a team that a lot of people thought under first year head coach Mike, Mike variable under first-year coordinator, Matt leflore who had been a part of previous stopped with Kyle Shanahan in Atlanta. When things went well for that offense and in Los Angeles with Sean McVeigh with the offensive explosion for them. This has been a team people thought, okay, we can take seriously after back to back wins against the Cowboys and the patriots only to be followed up by back to back losses albeit on the road against fellow ACC AFC south compatriots the colts in the Texans now that Texans loss looking better. And better obviously with how the Texans have performed. But this is a team that kind of is emblematic of how difficult the NFL tends to be to judge. We. In week out, Marcus mariota, authored one of the worst interceptions. You'll see all year last night. But he's also a guy who made enough plays for them to get this win, including what Derrick Henry did on the ground. Obviously stealing the show there. But this is still a team. Now as we look down the stretch of the season. We're already looking up at week fourteen which is insane. But it also means now that we're looking up at a playoff picture that starting around form and at seven and six the Tennessee titans. Find themselves right in the mix for this. And this is a team that are ESPN NFL analysts and hall of fame quarterback. Steve Young says it may be getting hot at the right time to me Matt leflore came in from the Rams, and I love what the titans had decided to do like to lean into the the rule changes for offense. And let's let's be more like ram link. Let's be more chief like and Marcus is that kind of a guy let's empower him which they've done. Now, there's some transition."
