Goldmine Record Store Recon: Record Breakers
Okay. Welcome back for another addition record store. Recon the podcast episode and this this episode we're GONNA be talking about record breakers in Chicago Illinois. We'RE GONNA be talking to Dr Disk are traveling anonymous reporter on all things record stores. Hey Dr Dis doing stayed healthy. Have you talked to some of the record store owners about what they're going through now? Stores are starting to reopen I some of them did well with online sales since stores closed last conversation with several long. It's really based on what the states are doing. I know a lot of the record stores in California has to. They're basically just doing curbside to go. But in the Mid West. So places like Wisconsin they're actually starting to open up the store or they started opening stores last week in getting small groups in time and on the East Coast. To get it depends. It's kind seems to be one. Whatever the state is doing stores are trying to do the follow suit and next next month we will really dive into one of our stores ends opened probably earlier than a lot of other stores in how they're doing with it so next next month which which stores that can give. That will be mad. City music out of Madison Wisconsin. O but today we're GonNa talk about a specific stored record breakers Chicago. And they you you give them high marks You don't give them a perfect score but you give them high marks and you talk about how they they pass the test with. Branding you bought. I guess you thought it was a great store. Logo T shirt. That had all the the head all the stuff you liked with their brand on it. Don't they get a good job? Promoting themselves And Additionally Eric the CO owner used to be an audio engineer or he still is obviously he has the skill set and they sell some great studio equipment. There that's correct as well as doing repair work sell. So you could bring in your turntable and if it doesn't I have to bring a mind because it doesn't return after the end of the album pricks it Since I took mine in. But it's a old. I've had it since since I was fifteen techniques Turntable it's really good. But it doesn't return on me now so. I going to bring it in and are really no good ones in Connecticut. So what would happen? If I call to Eric. And does he have to walk in with the equipment. Can you it? I'd imagine that he would be if you're willing to pay for it. I'd imagine he's be be willing to work on it if you ship to him. And I just had a conversation with him about three or four weeks ago. I'd been calling on a lot of the stores just to see how they're doing. And and raiders another store. There really has beefed up their online presence and their website to To deal with choline nineteenth sales loss kazaa stores in Illinois completely. Shutdown makes sense next major city of Chicago. Yeah I should contact for that because I also been looking for. Since he's an audio engineering probably knows a lot about turntables to the extent where my dust cover broke which you know kind of. It's hooked up to the turntable so it opens up like you would open up a chest and that part broke and I've been looking for a replacement and they don't make them anymore for this specific turntable. So it's kind of like I would have to catch lightning in a bottle and find something to repair that. So maybe I'll take them who knows out of all the stories I've ever visited. He probably has the most knowledge of any store. I'm salesperson I've talked to about you know audio engineering. He may not know where you get your heart but I would imagine anybody does be him so if it's someone in Chicago and they WANNA go in when they reopen What kind of equipment would they find? Not Just turntables right Hit receivers I there. Have you meditate tiger to their most? I think most of the repair work he does. He does kind of behind the scenes and so they didn't have you know he have like all lay out. It was sore and the source really clean and very easy to just get around. And so they don't have a lot of just pieces scattered all over the place. I saw that they have a clean hardwood floor. They have all the record. Seen organized a television set up brick walls. Looks Kinda Nice? Man Lighting is really professionally. It's interesting having this record. Stores had seen it all and you know it started out in one thousand nine hundred eighty in us in the suburbs northwest suburbs of Illinois and Was probably one of the more popular stores visit when it would from the original owner when it was in a states then they moved the owner decided he wanted to get into live music and so he basically whole record store and took get into the city and opened up A Bar Reggie's where the record store was on the second floor of this bar and the bar has gotten pretty popular especially in the area alternative and punk music. I'm probably one of the better small venues in the Chicago area. Actually right now. And he sold the record part of it too arrogant in. Eric's CO owner who relocated out whether our to ninety five north Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago in that that happened around two thousand fifteen sixteen. So it's seen all different styles of incarnation. So when he sold that he so basically all the inventory. The brand Equipment that was there all that kind of stuff He must have had a hell of a collection to a lot of record stores As some customers know have just as many records in storage whether it's in another location or in the basement or the attic Real hard core record collectors. That I've no always in a store and ask. Can I see your base addict? We talked about that in several reviews stores. I did up in in Minnesota in Duluth. You remember the globe news when he has more inventory in another warehouse that he knows in his own amaze you know in his shop and I heard that from several stores so I don't think that's uncommon so there's a lot of room in Back to have There's enough room for bands to perform right and they have bands perform their Gleevec set on a monthly basis. And they do a lot of really nice stuff around bargain store David. It's a nice again. It's probably one of the nicer stage areas that I seen for bands. The plan probably the only other one. I can compare to. Is You crime? He's location has a really nice stage as you can imagine with this. Probably even a little bit bigger than the grimy stage while wonder because since he Audio engineer you know Stereo Equipment. He must know how to set up a nice. Pa For this for small space and for bands and then you say also a DJ as well.
