Trump moves to officially withdraw U.S. from WHO

Has officially notified the United Nations of plans to withdraw from the World Health Organization. NPR's Kelsey Snow reports lawmakers from both parties or criticizing the move in the midst of an ongoing global pandemic. The notice has been submitted to the U. N secretary general with a final withdrawal date of July 6th, 2021 according to a State Department spokesman. Bob Menendez, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, tweeted criticizing the move as quote, chaotic and incoherent. Republican Senator Lamar Alexander, the chairman of the Senate Health Committee, has also criticized the move, saying withdrawing from the group could interfere with clinical trials and vaccine development. Trump has aggressively criticized the W. H O and has threatened to withhold US funding for the organisation.
