"So there is a. one page story New York Times is read mad meet bad for you new research says you can't prove it so four years were told to cut down on red meat cut down for your heart cut down for the chance of you contracting at cancer some kind you know the colon cancer colon rectal cancer thing is it's almost a direct line you know when you when you look at meat consumption and the rate of cancer cases so this new study though breaks big news and it's being on well advertised as you can imagine being crowed from everywhere so I thought I'd get a couple of at least a couple of opinions to balance this in th who's the estimate how about this study and Elizabeth all followed she joins us and you report a lot on the plant based world and the meat world so give us a of first what does this study say what is this study is it a study is a legit and give us a sense of balance on it please Elizabeth. hi there mark it's great to be with you first of all thanks for having me on hello my god what craziness has transpired. is not a study in and of itself it's a compilation of existing studies and it's got by Bradley Johnston and something called new teacher racks which is a private organization and they have put together their recommendation of a compilation of studies those recommendations to me annals of internal medicine which published it but what's bizarre here is that their recommendations really do you recollect this study their recommendations are almost in contrast to some of the statistics in the studies and what's even more bizarre than that the annals of internal medicine decided to publish it even though it's contrary to medical science so I can read you something like that you'd like us some of the studies that were actually part of this compilation we'll keep it easy keeper accessible because I'm not one of the slower kids in the class. we're going to give you some fun percentages so I went to the study said that thirteen percent lower risk of all cause mortality by reducing meat fourteen percent reduction in cardiovascular mortality sixty four percent of gall bladder cancer incidence fifty six reduction percent reduction in pancreatic cancer mortality. Sir numbers right are are the cancer numbers are overwhelming actually the the first numbers that Elizabeth mentioned are kind of in that I don't know fourteen percent okay but when you get over fifty percent reduction. twenty four percent reduction in type two diabetes so huge number. you know are these people to decide for the American public that they don't get to have this information for their own. people are out there spending huge amounts of money on pales living in pain I don't know twenty four percent is significant to me I'd like to know that. but you're saying that this evaluation of those tests. is flawed because of it was it a gender driven I know this neutral rex people you just mentioned it hurt there were behind the sugar you like **** telling you that sugar is good for you but that sugar was over. over talked about in a negative way and and out so I know that they've been behind a couple of things that sort of fall in this category of a Hey don't worry about it. yeah that is true and also annals of internal medicine they also came out with the Hey saturated fat than butter is good for you and interestingly enough they came out with that role. twenty fourteen which is when the advisory committee this site on the new Derek dietary guidelines by the USDA and lo and behold when those new dietary guidelines from twenty fifteen to twenty twenty or out it included dairy because there was that study that was published in the journal that said that after okay so here we are right before twenty twenty the new guidelines are about to come out for twenty twenty to twenty twenty five and here we have another study they actually call it a study a compilation of with the recommendations that don't align with study. you're saying this was this is not a coincidence that that that this information is coming out now Elizabeth I love that you are checked in with us I want to talk to a doctor so I'm going to. get a doctor on the line now and again I hope you'll check out along the way to kind of a keep us honest and keep these studies honest in the future. can I just add one point zero one third of one of the studies. note that the recommendation from his study was that you can keep beating me and that I completely oppose this recommendation and worry about the lasting damage to public and planetary health doctor doctor Steve see them paper and he is against the recommendations sort of distorting his own studies so. there's a lot of blow back yeah there's been a lot of blow back in the medical community and the American heart association and the cancer society they're all blowing back on it so I I think that's helping unfortunately maybe to give this study which is a study of the studies a little more oxygen than it deserves but having said that I mean it is a controversial conclusion self thanks Elizabeth off on"
