Are everywhere these days and that's creating new challenges for the people working to keep our airspace safe KCBS is Jeff bell has an update on their progress today's roads are being used in all kinds of ways from instructor section the agriculture to being able to monitor wildlife and supporting public safety applications it's doctor Marcus Johnson with NASA Ames research center which has been working with the Federal Aviation Administration to figure out how best to manage all those drones in the sky safety of the air space really becomes paramount over the past five years NASA has been field testing drones in increasingly challenging situations exploring for example and safely landed the events of failures on the aircraft when you're operating in an urban environment Johnson says NASA researchers have been testing all kinds of new traffic management technologies on the ground and on drones we were investigating how drunk actually talk directly to each other over a vehicle to vehicle communication will also looking at the use of cameras radar and more sophisticated flight planning options for drones and their operators Johnson says the research results are being passed along right now to the F. A.
