Listen: Ben Rothlisberger, Cleveland Browns And Steelers discussed on The Dan Patrick Show
"Patrick Show glad to have you on board Thursday night football steelers dealers browns that spicy. Now you didn't think that maybe a month ago because we weren't sure who the steelers were and I was told at the time when they made the mink Fitz Patrick Patrick Trade. That the steelers still felt like they were a playoff caliber team. Even though they had lost Ben Rothlisberger they traded lady on Bell. And they a Got Rid of Antonio Brown. They traded Antonio Brown. I should say and all of a sudden that defense has stepped up a little bit. Now you go into Cleveland and this is one of those does. It's it's must win for Cleveland because Cleveland you would think they're building on something in the second half of the season. The schedule gets a lot easier. You got to win this game game and you start to look at. What is the glaring weakness of the Cleveland? Browns and that weakness is their quarterback Baker. Mayfield because it all sort of funnels through him and I start to look at this team now you have. I don't know if there's an offense that has this much potential this much firepower than the Cleveland browns because Kareem am hunt has been spectacular. You may not root for him but he has the potential to do some incredible things especially out of the backfield with screen passes it feels. It's like Nick. Chubb is who I'm going to load up with Chubb and Kareem Hunt and I'm GonNa go against this steeler defense. I'm going to try to negate that pass rush by using using my running backs I would say Jarvis Landry and OBI J hold on we're going to get a couple of balls to you. Maybe a couple of home runs to you. But let's let's let's be a little more conservative here. We don't have to satisfy anybody you don't get points for degree of difficulty. Let's just be a little more methodical. Let's be smarter in what we do. How about false start penalties? How about we don't beat ourselves like simple things there? Yes about that. Because Pittsburgh SORTA A has their identity now the identity on offense is next man up. Because you've seen the injuries there and it feels like they cobbled together enough off to make it interesting offensively defensively they got a really good pass. rusher conversely you have Pittsburgh who's going to try to take advantage manage of a browns defense. That's not very good against the run. They just don't have a good running attack right now or consistent running attack. So there's a lot of storylines at play here and as mclovin is pointed out the browns probably the easiest schedule in the second. Half of the season they got Miami. Although this is a new improved dolphins team you got Cincinnati coming up. Yeah you gotta be gotta be Pittsburgh once Outta to even have any chance and this is a must win if they're going to have if they're going to make the playoffs as a nine nine in nine hundred seventeen than they have to win this game. Yes mclovin how do you. How do you coach out the fouls penalties? The stupid. I still don't know what that means means when somebody said well they got a clean that up there okay. Is that on Freddie Kitchens to tell somebody hey don't be stupid and jump. Hey don't hold. Hey remember the snap account i. I don't know I'm I'm assuming players. These are grown men. They have to take accountability for those those false start penalties. CNC But isn't that some of some of that on the coaching. I don't know I mean. Do you think they just got unlucky with a bunch of guys who were undisciplined at the line that they're like I just can't figure this out but it just that unlucky but then what do I say to you to make you be a smarter football player. So what is Freddie Kitchen. Say can I tell hell you'd be smarter. I mean I've been trying to that with you guys for year. Hey but I don't know what a coach does like. We're going to practice not jumping on paying off side. We're going to be out there for two hours and nobody's GonNa jump Bob's So I I don't know what Freddie Kitchens does. It seems he's like these are pros grown men. Hey how about something simple. Not Post starts here. I got saucy side topic for tonight looking at Mason. Rudolph the backup now starting quarterback for the steelers. He's a sixty five percent passer which is about the norm eleven touchdowns four picks as playing serviceable. Like you'll take yes and it's his first year. He's getting better if he has a really good game tonight and then he plays well the rest of the season. No Dont`a no question. Mark Know If ben if Ben wants to come back then bends coming back. I haven't seen enough Outta Mason Rudolph where I go. That's it's the future well. But Cam Newton now is being maybe at another home because of they have a young quarterback who's inexpensive playing pretty well and is healthy. It's not the the same thing for Ben Rothlisberger who was injured. No no because we know he's Ben is going to be Ben when he comes back. Cam Newton we don't know who cam Newton is going to be because now all were taking away his biggest weapon in that his ability to stretch the defense be able to make you pay with the design runs. If he's a pocket passer he's nowhere. Where near what? Ben Rothlisberger is yes. mclovin I don't think Rudolph spend that good actually I really like he's serviceable barely. They haven't even gotten six games. A tape on them and the defense ends is doing more scoring than the offense yes. Also he's got those small hands. You gotta factor that as well. Is he working on the small hands thing. I'm the guy is stressing heads with Yoga. Yeah who was that. Who improved his draft stock? Because he he. He stretched out his hands. Ends through these exercises your Yoko Brandon Allen. Bronco the Guy Start for the Bronco. He went up a whole inch. notaire notorious hand stretcher boy sixteen of two hundred sixty two teams that have started foreign six if made the playoffs zero of the two hundred and one teams that started three and seven have made the playoffs. That's how important it is for the Cleveland browns tonight right."
