Listen: Robert Meal Mueller, Attorney, Congress discussed on Rob Pratte
"Region for the media to reach out to and he's done it all today, and he's going to end his day with us. He is famed criminal defense. Attorney my friend Phil dealer Santa who joins us right now on Katie k radio. How are you there mister dealer Santa a busy day today? I. Take it, right. Tell you. It was a busy day. And it's been it's been a great day. And we're all thanks for having me. I don't know how I'm gonna follow up after your last, you know, guests but try my best. Well, let me just kind of tied together you were on earlier PC NC with the great Ellis cannon who happens to be on this radio station, an amazing talent. And if I believe has a law degree highly intelligent young man who happens to be a middling, Pennsylvania and my guest day Pollick. Ellis may not even know this happens to be also from Midland, Pennsylvania. So what a small world it is. I wanna talk to you about this whole. And they're both the Serbian part serve. Yes. Crowd of that. It all works. And believe me, the reason I love all of you because I get to have an extra Christmas every year. So it's a good thing. It's a good thing. Okay. Now, look I want to dive into this the legal ease aspect of it in just a moment. But the thing that really jumped out to me today, the honorable attorney general William bar said the reason in the Miller report, this is what they said the redacted version that Mr. Mueller did not subpoena the president because they thought they had enough evidence. And they thought it would take too much time. But you being a criminal defense attorney knowing the rules of the road schooled in the business of law. Would you have said no matter what I want him on the witness, Dan. If I were a prosecutor, not a special prosecutor, absolutely. And you can have any of them that the us attorney's office say that. But the one caveat, I will say is this he coached it that it was too late in the Gatien in that all the roads that lead them to the conclusions that they had would not be worth it. And one thing that I can tell you, rob as you know, I don't look at these situations as political democrat or Republican. I look at them as what is fair and his scope was very narrow, and he limited then after thousands of witnessing of us based agents tremendous amount of subpoenas interrogatory all kinds of things that we use his lawyers to question people in deuce he did, and he narrowed it down to the two issues of the Russian collusion and. What sensually whether or not Trump campaign person had acted in conspiracy with a foreign national or foreign country to try to influence the elections. They got to the fifty percent point they proved that as everyone always knows whether it's the Russians Chinese they attempted to influence the election. They were not successful in influencing the election, but they did attempt. Now, the person that were actually indicted for various different crimes, they were all out sources of the original investigation. So he was actually doing two things at once one under the statute, it's the first sentence of the meal airport. He made his statement of what he was doing what he acted under. And did he was then to give his recommendations to mister Borges mister bar along with Mr Rod Stein, which Trump has criticized tremendously. Came to the same conclusion that not only is there clearly no influence from the Trump campaign in working with the Russians. But they also said that there was no obstruction of Justice for two reasons primarily one there is no underlying crime in two. There was no intent in so well, the president probably put his foot in the mouth to get this whole destruction started with firing Komi. I did not disagree with the firing Comey, but he should've never publicly or otherwise giving a reason he doesn't need to he's the president. He has that story in when we start going down the roads chipping away from the executive branches of thirty. I think we're going into really troubled territory for future presidencies. So I was actually pleased the way that it's been presented. Did look redacted. He he did not redact as much as what everybody had thought the ones that are gonna go to congress are going to be completely unredacted other than grand jury, which is any prosecutor defense lawyer on your show, we'll tell you has to remain redacted. And so you start to ask yourself how much do people what? Now, the big issue. I made today was I think the next step in this process is let's find out how in why the heads of the department at the time. They're no longer there. ESPN why did they not inquire as to how this all got started with still dossier? Meaning how was purchased how was not necessarily reliable and Comey testified in front of congress that they did not inquire into that? And I found that very troubling defense lawyer how does the investigation get stored and you need to take. It from the very beginning. You know, the the collateral damage that might exist afterwards does have some bearing of why in when it started. And I think that that needs to, you know, be be run to the, you know, run to the ground. All right. Let me just take these few sentences from what I saw earlier today and get your thoughts on it because it some legal ease. And I'm sure a lot of people like me are wondering exactly what this means what the future means as far as this whole obstruction of Justice charges concern. These are the words of the attorney general with respective whether the president can be found to have obstructed Justice by exercising. His powers under article two of the constitution. We concluded that congress has the authority to prohibitive presidents corrupt use of his thirty in order to protect the integrity of the administration. Justice something you were talking about earlier now attorney general William barb released. The report after holding a press conference where he defended his conclusion there wasn't significant evidence to prosecute an obstruction obstruction game. Two years of investigations, thousands of subpoenas and hundreds of Warren's and witnesses. So the bottom line is he saying that everything they've gone through. This is where they are. But it doesn't mean that the buck stops here. Fair statement, it doesn't mean the buck stops there. And it's also the posy of the DOJ not to indict a sitting president. But the reality is if they attempt to go down the indictment terror the impeachment process, it's never going to even get to that point. But you will see some investigations that are tempted to be had following this. So you know, overall, I think Robert Mueller did his job. And I think that attorney general board did his job. Okay. Now, you have the speaker of the house anti Pelosi. Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer saying they want molar they want bar in front of congress to testify. I believe this is more, and I hate to use the term witch-hunt. But that's how I'm looking at it as far as. Helping the Democrats and their process heading into the twenty twenty election more. So than about Justice, your thoughts on how this thing could be woven into another set of hearings more investigations, and how the American people are going to be drug through all of this. Again. Do you see that possibly happening with the statements of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer today? Well, I'll tell you anytime you get a report like this. You're always going to have the political spin. Will you not to drag Robert Mueller, which would be completely? I think improper in a legal. And that's the reason he didn't get on stage today. And I think Mr. bar even said that is because this is this the Gatien was done in secrecy. Remember, it was a grand jury to bring him in front of congress. I think would be completely inappropriate and inappropriate for a tremendous amount of reasons may have what's called a chilling effect or. Future. Prosecutors. He's report is very clear and it speaks for itself. So my life would be if you wanted to bring other persons in front of congress, I think it has to be very very narrowly tailored to specific issues. And I don't think you go on a fishing expedition, you have to be pleased with Mr. Mueller and how he really handled himself as utmost professional through what had to be a very difficult time for him. Just trying to stay out of the public eye. Stay under the radar and stay focused and keep his eye on the prize of delivering this report. I'll tell you. I am we pick so much on the government our politicians, but when you see a man with his caliber from both sides of the legal scholars local attorneys. You know, Robert meal Mueller has always had pets reputation. And I think this is really work product of seeing why he says has such an impeccable reputation. I mean with Clinton we started off with whitewater, and then Travelgate in the next thing. You know, we're talking about a blue dress in this instance, he narrowed the issues down he investigated, those issues he referred the cases, he thought should be prosecuted in quite frankly, whether people like it or dislike it, this is our system works in this is the process in place, and it's been working pretty good so far. And I think that this is not a rush. Shing judgment where we start to change how the law. Proceeds special counsel. Do you believe that this statement coming out of the the mouth of house speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer has enough legs to to really substantiate? The possibility of a future indictments and more investigations. It says saying there was a crisis of confidence in bars. Independence and impartiality. We believe the only way to begin restoring public trust in handling of the special counsel investigation of counter molar himself as I mentioned to provide public testimony in the house and Senate as soon as possible. But I mean, when you throwing words out there, like crisis of confidence and independence and impartiality. I mean that in my opinion, did they really understand the significance of what people like the attorney general William bar and Mr. Mueller do. I really don't think that they get it. I think she's playing to her party. And I also think that those words have quite a bit of air in what I do think is this is the same house speaker it said only weeks ago that you know, let's stop focusing on trying to indict Mr. char impeach Mr. Trump, and let's start legislating instead of investigating. And now that the report comes out knowing the substance of the report in the four pages that mister had provided earlier to change. This beat does make one wonder how much it is about Justice in our system and really about politics. One more short segment with criminal defense. Attorney truly one of the best at what he does in Pittsburgh and this region, he is filled. It is."
