Welcome back to the frame. I'm John Horn for more than three. Decades Michael Stipe was the lead singer of Rem. The ban made fifteen albums before splitting up up in two thousand eleven after that stipe largely retreated from music but recently he got back into the studio and he's just released a couple of singles it's his first solo works since rem and each comes with a beautiful music video. When I recently he was back on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens? It's where he studied photography not music so before we got to his new music. We started with at my interest in photography actually predates. I'm moving to Athens Georgia and going going to college. I started when I was fourteen. Which means that photography was my first love before music and something that I thought was a I don't know it's a it's a a tool or a medium through which I felt like I could express myself pretty well. I know now I didn't know then but I know now that I have a somewhat unique week way of looking at things and the world and people in making connections at that other people don't necessarily make and so I'm able to implement that into the work that I a two as a as a visual artist. My my my schooling here at the university had several professors who really innovative in a- and an incredibly inspiring on to the students including me and I'm actually friends with several of them still so It it it meant a lot to be able a to immerse myself into The Arts community here in the late seventies early eighties and I think that had a big impact on the artisan and I and Song Songwriter. Lyricist and I became. Do you think there are things that you can say as an artist and a photograph that you can't say as a singer in a song of To me the the mediums are are similar. I when I when I hear music good music or great music. I see things and and then if I'm participating in in that piece of music my job is to try to flush out and give it narrative if amusing axon Jackson and words or my boys so there's more overlap for me between the two then there is the disparity or distance. I WANNA play a song from a number of years ago from a performance actually with the BBC in two thousand three.
