Senior Life Journeys Presents Carol Howls. Let's talk dementia. A podcast designed to help caregivers find knowledge power hope and smiles lyles in their dementia caregiving journey welcome to let's talk dementia. Here's your host bestselling author. Carol Pappy Full Moon Monday caregivers. I am Carol Howl and today. Well I'm GonNa talk about the full moon and it's messing with me might be messing with your loved one with dementia. While I'm sitting here with my bathing suit on soon as I get this reporter go into the pool because I am seriously feeling some effects of something something going on in my body that I am not enjoying affecting my emotions and I think Maybe it's the full moon so I did a little bit of research on this topic. Where my notes go there? They are and then van. It's quite interesting. You know the full moon beautiful to look at and We admire the beauty of it. But does it have a physical effect on your body and if it's happening affect on your body was doing for the person who or to the person it might have dementia will. The moon gets blamed for a lot of madness on earth. Enough they say in emergency rooms. There's more people who come into the emergency room while nights a sleman. I don't know but the lat name for the moon which is Luna L. U. N. A. is the root word is the root of the word lunatic tick Luna is the Latin Name for Moon in his the root of the word lunatic. I think that's kind of interesting. Is You know it's Kinda me well about one study showed that the lunar affects have been found to have little or nothing at all to do with human behavior. So maybe I'm just imagining all. This was still another study that was conducted for over four years Showed a longitudinal study to objectively examine the lunar influence on the frequency duration and intensity of behaviors neighbors and individuals. Alzheimer's disease I read from. The article showed that there was increased wondering anxiety physical aggression and verbal confrontation confrontation so said. The study concluded that individuals with Alzheimer's disease exhibited significantly more behaviors during periods of full moon. And that those behaviors saviors were of a greater duration during the full moon. Some maybe I'm not crazy. Maybe it's having effect on me too. I can tell you that I have been very much so that the least little thing I feel like I wanNA cry. And that's not unusual for this stage of my life having Lost my momma against about nine months ago or so. I have to do the math here. weird things. Make me. Think about her and cry and I can do that just at the drop of a hat and that's not who I am normally but it's been a little more intense and are pretty much WanNa hit somebody some days. I should not say that to you should the. That's you know that feeling when your emotions are all whacked out and you're just a little jacked up and you think It's just one of those days. Everybody needs to leave me alone. And that's why I'm making sure I get to the pool today. I've already been out walking and then we had long meeting and to our meeting her. That was a thing when visit my brother-in-law Uncle Ernie in a little update on him as he is very very much not with us cognitively and he wasn't in his room when we got there we're like wears mclardy and he had politely taken himself down to someone else's room piled up in their band trying to take a nap. You know you just never know but he has has to kind lost a lot of pressure and sadness in issues were working through there but then life is just like that you take these situations that affect us that are going on in our world weather's caregiving or whether it's a full moon or whatever stresses of life will weigh us down now in. We need to be aware of that. Induce something help combat it in for me. It was walking this morning and I did that fully dressed for my day and I wore a along dress today so I'm out doing walking with my long dress on. I know people thought I was crazy but it was a nice leisure oiseaux k. I don't care what people think unaided to get out and walk for my health and then now excuse me again going to the pool I will be at the pool for an hour walking in in place. I can do over three miles walking in place in the pool in that does make me feel better now. Very thankful to live in part of the world where I can go to the pool in February also yesterday did about. I think it was a thirty five. Forty Minute online chair. Yoga feel a little funny telling I I did chair yoga not an old woman but I have problems with my thumbs so getting my weight down on my hands really doesn't work well with my thumbs so I have to be careful about that but that Chiro felt really good and I think this afternoon. I'm going to do that again. I don't WanNa tell you that there have been studies that showed judge. That sleep is affected when there is a full moon and people have go to take longer to sleep. They don't sleep as long or excuse me. Goodness Gracious. I don't know what's going on there. You get to hear it all. They take longer to go to sleep. And they don't don't sleep as long and they have a poor quality of sleep and I don't think they're entirely sure why that happens. But they know the lunar cycle does seem to influence human sleep even when. You're not aware that the moon is full and that that phase of the moon is existing. There still seems to be an effect on the human mind body that interesting. I think it is well. I've cleared my throat thirteen times on. You've had to sit here if you're watching this in the end Mabena suits actually my mom's despite institute. It's quite nice if you're listening to it with you or spared that aren't you lucky. I hope that as you're working with your loved one you will remember that they just like made a day have days when you just feel sorta crappy you do and they may not be a real reason for you just do maybe. Maybe it's the learner who knows I don't know maybe it just is in may be on those days. You need to be a little more sympathetic. Maybe a little more interactive Little more of that gentle touch you know that taking the palm of your hand in making a figure eight across their shoulder blades in the back holding their hand rubbing their hand being kind of the those displays of emotion that are displays of affection. That are so important Morton that we all enjoy some. Maybe some coconut oil in. You'RE GONNA rub their hands gently gently now not gonNA do a massage and if you go Ra my hands you saw Jim really that good feel good but no just some coconut all in in rub them good with brings me to one last. Thought I want to give you something that just came into my world today. This piece of Information Asian and met with the lady today who said that she had started using a face cream. That was probiotic now. She is allergic to dairy and she started having all these symptoms of stopped up and filling nasty and she thought. I've not had dairy. What did I do and should you know the only thing this different in my world? Is this probiotic face crane and so she looked on it and it has a milk base. Who would've thought that? I'm so glad she figured it. Out and that base in that probiotic face cream. She had a reaction to so something. Like that. Going on in your world or in your loved off once world it is something to think about so don't automatically assume your loved ones having Yucky because they have dementia will. It could be other things that might pass or things that should pass that we need to get rid of like a crane that might be causing problems just interesting you learn something new every day. Don't you oh I ho caregiving journey. Today's a good one. I hope the flow moon. Just you get to enjoy the beauty of it and you don't feel the effects of it. I hope when I get to the pool. Oh there's not a bunch of people there 'cause I like to put on my music from the fifties and the sixties and walk too that beet to make sure I get my steps in you guys have a good day blessings smiles.
