Listen: Chris Webber, Michigan, Kevin Garnett discussed on SportsPhone 680
"But it's so after that team left incomes the fat five of Jimmy king. Jalen rose, John Howard, Ray Jackson. And of course, Chris Webber? Now, we're talking about the enshrined into the Naismith hall of fame this weekend. We saw Steve Nash and Grant Hill. And Ray Allen spoken looking forward to hear some of that at some point this weekend. But Chris Webber was coming up here pretty soon. Now, if we talk about a career that spans not only collegiate, but also professional do you take into account what he did? Or technically by the A ruling didn't do with the Michigan wolverines those two years being wiped off the books. He's he's going to take a trip back to Michigan, and there's going to possibly be a fad five or union. I remember they were all at the championship game. Not sitting together. The last time. Michigan played I believe it was Louisville in Atlanta for the final. Four and for the national championship game. Those guys have not mended those fences. There's still allowed a lot of anger a lot of hurt. Jalen rose is still spoken. You know, he's he's spoken about the situation. Chris Webber went on sway in the morning and smoke about it as well. And it didn't seem like they were ready to to have that conversation yet. But do you think this is an effort to kind of not only mend those fences? But show the hall of fame voters that you know, my career was terrific and those things aren't lasting because I don't know what the criteria is voting for the Naismith hall of fame. But I do know this when we were talking about Dirk when we're talking about, Kevin Garnett. When we're talking about Tim Duncan one of those teams that Sacramento Kings teams, one of the best teams to never win an NBA championship. And what he did for that franchise, and what we did basketball as a passing big, man. And we talk a lot about what the Golden State Warriors do those kings team shared the ball. And did it with a flare. Like, none other. Yeah. I'm just not. To me. You gotta take did at Michigan. First of all because who cares what the into AA says, you know, what you'd still happen? You can take away. It's still happen. And he was great. And this a guy who averaged twenty point seven points per game. Ten rebounds game four sis- a game. Five time all star five time. All NBA. Here's the problem with Chris Webber? And this is the only thing that has even made disa- conversation. He was a victim of timing. It has nothing you can do about that. But he comes into league at a time. When shack is clearly the best young big man in the league. But Akeem allies want has something left. David Robinson, clearly has something left. And then he goes to sort of that next generation of big man were Kevin Garnett shows up. And he's obviously this great more. I little power for type Tim Duncan shows up in dominates the league. And Chris Webber has to sort of deal with that the fact that he was never the best big, man. The fact that he was always third or fourth even though he was great. He wasn't as good as Dunkin or Kevin Garnett or shack or some of those guys. Those guys fits Dave Pitts. Gain everest. But he wasn't the better than that. Right. Right. And I think that's the only not to me that you get the only criticism of his career is that is that there wasn't a time. Were you said Chris Weber is the best big man in basketball. And that to me is the only reason we've been having a conversation about a guy who put up those numbers. Listen, I don't care about all star appearances. Because a lot of that is political. And if you're coming off the bench a lot of that stuff is populated copulated contests. I don't buy any of that stuff. But this is a guy who just wasn't shack. He wasn't Dunkin. Any wasn't Gardenet, you know, two of the best big man of all time the best power forwards of all time. And that is the only thing to me and Chris Weber's campaign. So we should go back to Ann Arbor. And I hope that changes public perception, I wanna see fat five or union. I'm a huge fat five fan. I'm just like you. I grew up on Michigan. I loved Michigan team. And I want to see Chris Webber, and Jalen rose come. Gather, and whatever issue was there. I want that to be resolved because I think fans want to see that. But Chris Weber's only problem when it comes to hall of fame is that he wasn't the best big man of his time. He was great. He deserves it. But I don't know what else is holding them back from that is y'all of Famer in Europe summation. Yes, he is. Because again, if you don't if you take away Duncan, and and shag you're talking about a guy who would have been the man had he stayed healthy. We just gave Grant Hill a spot in the hall of fame who didn't a guy who didn't have a full career because of health issues, and no one seemed to have a challenge with that. Of course, why brass of health issues he had moments where he gave us, you know, spurts of greatness, but he didn't give chat gave us. He definitely gives us a Dunkin gave us he didn't give us an MVP sees let Garnett. But isn't it? Okay. To be fourth or fifth when you're playing with the best of the best athletes a hall of Famer man, what do you think I think he's a hall of Famer just from the the cultural movement that the fab five was leading into that goal. State rookie year where you faced off with Charles Barkley and the Suns in game six game seven. I mean, what he did for the Washington Bullets at the time the wizards franchise as well as the Sacramento Kings. He rejuvenated a few franchises. So I I'm I'm in full support of Chris wherever being a hall of Famer coming up here pretty soon. He's Meyer Metcalf. I'm Jason gov is Freddie and Fitz Simons and you'll hear from if it Simmons. He'll tell you where I should be. You'll listen to ESPN radio the ESPN app and Sirius XM channel eighty. Wing."
