"Slash home. Daily tuesday. January twenty second thousand nineteen today's episode were and talk about the two thousand eighteen Academy Award nominations, which took place this morning. This is slash home editor in chief, Peter Surata and training that to his podcast slash managing editor Shaka, Paul. Hello weekend at her Brennaman. Hey, that's me writer, Schweitzer and buoy. One in Chris Evangelista? Hello. As they were getting a different sign on from you every single day. How how many days of two thousand nineteen do you think you'll Bill keep this up? I'll probably give it up soon. I'm already you're already over. You guys woke up very early this morning too. You know huddle in the virtual slash foam newsroom to cover the Oscar nominations when when did those hit this morning five twenty two A M Pacific time. Eight twenty two eastern time. So I was already out. But yeah, it was bright and early for the rest of the country. We have a whole listing of all the nominations on the site. Thanks to you guys. And so if you want to read all the nominations, you can go there I'll link that in the show notes, but I wanted to go through the major categories. I there is a major categories and talk about like some surprises. Actually, anybody have best picture category in front of them that could read what the best pictures are. I do. Yes. Could you tell us what was nominated for best picture? Black Panther black klansman to Hemu in rhapsody. The favourite green book Ruma stars born and vice? So what what are the surprises here ones? Prices. Here is Black Panther. I feel like in one way is not surprised because it spent the past couple of months getting nominated at all kinds of awards all kinds of different guild of nominating Black Panther. But I think people were still kind of expecting it to get. Shutout at the Oscars because this is, you know, ten years ago with what as Wisconsin a little bit dark Knight, you know, was not nominated best picture instead off this whole chain reaction of when will hear movie every nominee for best picture will ever happen will ever happen. And everyone thought that marvel studios movie was not going to break that mold. And here we are actually did it. And I think a lot of people are going to the big debate going forward. We'll be is by nomination more about the movie or move, the the moment, the cultural, you know, shifts that represents an either way I think it belongs year. I'm still pleasantly surprised that a a marvel movie be at one that is incredibly smart and rich and textured in storytelling character is here. And that's that's very cool Cressey wrote this feature on the site, basically going chronicling the last ten years, you know, talking about the dark nights. Can you give that a plug? I sure can't so. Yeah, I think everyone at this point. Now is that ten years ago two thousand eight really? Everyone sort of a Sumed the dark. Knight was going to get a best picture nomination. Because it was at the time where the best reviewed comic book movies. It was a serious film. Everyone thought, oh, this is it this is going to break through you know, and become that I comic book slash superhero movie nod for best picture and wasn't it got a eight nominations. One of those was of course, heath ledger who won a posthumously for his work as the joker. But that still wasn't good enough for a lot of people.."
