Listen: Brett Cavanaugh, President Trump, Senate Judiciary Committee discussed on
"Jimbotalks. Well, that likely vote by the Senate Judiciary committee this Thursday on the bread Cavanaugh supreme court nomination. Nope. Instead the committee will hold a hearing a public hearing next Monday with off and the woman accusing him of sexual assault when they were both teenagers. But as Bob Costantini reports. The Trump White House maintains it read Kevin will be confirmed. No matter what it's only natural. Any president would defend his choice for the supreme court. Donald Trump is no different. When speaking of bread Kavanagh. He's an outstanding intellect and outstanding judge respected by everybody. Never had even a little blemish on his record. But Kevin stands accused of sexually assaulting a girl. Thirty-seven? Years ago when both were in high school and the pendulum on Capitol Hill is swinging toward the Senate Judiciary committee holding a special hearing for both to appear in state their cases. President Trump seems patient with the extra days or weeks may take believing in the end Kevin all will be confirmed though through a process and here everybody out, I think it's important. I believe they think it's important. Of course, the president wonders why the accusations were not disclosed up front in the confirmation process. This is something that should have been brought up long before this. They had the information in July. I understand it ranking judiciary committee democrat Dianne Feinstein admits she had a letter from the accuser back then. But the woman reportedly did not want public disclosure of the matter, and it's been Republicans calling for a halt to what appear to be a glide path to confirmation for Cavanaugh. I think he's very much on track. If they delayed a little bit just to make sure everybody's happy. They want to be half the Republican senators one hundred percent happy themselves while waiting to find out what the Senate was going to do the White House issued a statement judge. Kevin looks forward to a hearing where he can clear his name of this. False allegation. He stands ready to testify. If the Senate is ready to hear him. There was a reference to tomorrow meaning Tuesday. However, there's a hearing scheduled for Monday. Bob Costantini, the White House. So let's talk about that this evening, and we will do so in the company of a political analyst and former Trump aide, Michael Caputo joins us this evening O, Michael Jim, thanks for having me back. Absolately? Good to have you on one thing right off the bat that jumps out at me is the explanation given by Dianne Feinstein, the ranking democrat on the judiciary committee. Yes, she had this letter from the accuser back in July. But the woman did not want public disclosure of the matter. And yet I am told that in August. Let's not forget that we're getting into the later part of September here that in August that this woman had already taken a polygraph and had hired attorneys that doesn't sound like the process one ordinarily takes what one just simply sits on something. Of course, not as we all know these polygraph lie detector tests, are not not, you know, they don't they're not allowed to be brought up in court, and we know that a lot of criminals mass murderers and drug cartels. They pass them all the time. It's really just perception, it's all spin. And I think Senator Collins who's voted so important in this Senate passed she said what puzzling to me is the democrat by not bringing this out earlier after having have this information for more than six weeks have managed to cast a cloud of doubt on both the professor and the judge, and I think that should be really puzzling to everyone don't you? Well, I absolutely agree. As for the judge, by the way, it just I sorry for the accuser, Dr Ford, it just so happens that she is a far left activists and California a professor and a democratic activist. And but I'm sure that's that's purely coincidental and has nothing to do with her sudden willingness. To inject this into the the proceedings at any event. Now, we will presumably have this one day hearing on Monday. When would you expect after that a vote by the committee, and assuming that it's along party lines of therefore that would send it to the full Senate? And then a confirmation vote can all of that be done before the month of September ends. Oh, I think so I think they can move along at a pretty good clip. You know, I've got to tell you though, Jim I I was really pleased with the president's comment today. Weren't you? I you know, I was kind of nervous about seeing what he might say. After such a you know on attack on on on Cavanaugh. Why don't know? But I consider him a really good, man. He really laid this out pretty clear and was really reasonable. I think the president's right when he says, this is going to happen as soon as you know, the Democrats and the Republicans here these folks out one eight six six five O, JIMBO one eight six six five zero five four six two six. Michael Caputo is our guest this evening, and we're taking a look at the what is the date number eight hundred ninety seven of the. Ninety fifth chapter of of the hearings for for Brett Cavanaugh. I I must say that. There is a certain amount of deja vu about what happened twenty seven years ago in the Clarence Thomas hearings. It really is you know, and the Democrats are really just dreadfully attacking the reputation of judge Cavanaugh. I don't want to at the same time attack. Christine Ford's reputation. I think that's kind of unseemly, you know, of course, any woman's claim of sexual assault that needs to be heard out that doesn't mean that the claims should be accepted without any evidence. It's just not solely a question of lying. It can be question of perception. And that's complicated. By almost four decades since she claims that she was attacked. And I think that's that makes us all a lot more difficult. And of course, any man or woman who was accused of sexual assault deserves the right to face the accusation with a Ferro accusation, a thorough examination of the accusers Motors to and that takes some time, and and that's all difficult. And this is why the Democrats waited they wanna make sure I insist the Senate does their civic duty at a point in the process when when they it's gonna require a delay in the process now the other person who was supposed. Deadly with them. The other guy the friend of of Cavanaugh's. Says that nothing like that happened. And then we have of course, Dr Ford's own admission to the Washington Post that some of the details are hazy in her mind, and of course, on top of that we've got all the other women coming out of the woodwork making such accusations. Oh, wait a minute. There haven't been any other women who came out of the woodwork. Right. And I I was really I I got a smile on my face today. When I saw the lawyer that she she chose Deborah camps. Who's got a long democrat activist history, especially when it comes to sexual harassment in the nineties. She was defending Bill Clinton against Paula Jones who accused the president of attacking her, and she called Debra she called, you know, Denver can't call Paula Jones case, very very weak. In fact, if you read some of the things she said on CBS evening news in April second back in nineteen ninety eight. She said the Paula Jones Accu allegation could not hold up in court because clearly a one time incident she said that took place and ten to twelve minutes. She was not forced to have sex, and she left on her own volition the courts, increasingly are finding the band is not enough to create a sexually hostile work environment. Claim I find that really interesting business very attorney for Dr forward saying this now, and she said a lot more back in those days to of course, this is not a court of law. Obviously, this is a highly politicized hearing, regardless of the fact that it is part of the process, but but whether it's he will not follow the strict rules of evidence in a court of law, or is it required to have a call from Kelley in Dallas who joins us tonight to speak with our guest. Michael caputo? You can follow him on Twitter at his name. Michael are Caputo. Good evening. Kelly. Yes. Jim and Michael thank you for having me on. Sure, I just wanted to mention the left is. Of they constantly talk. Right abuse violation. And it just seems like they claim the moral high ground here and are actually committing human rights violation trying to convey cavern on we'll only an accusation with no evidence. No group. You know, there's no police reports. No score report. I mean, it's perfect timing. Of course, because he has a patriot a conservative, you know, he's going to be a very conservative department of the supreme court, and it just seems so timely all this coming about. But trying to convict him on a on just accusation alone window evidence that it just seemed like a union. His human rights. Oh, well, you could certainly argue that Kelly, and I would I would note, of course, the response. I guess we all know the response of the the democratic view as well. We're right. And then Trump should never have been president. And he should never get to pick anybody for the supreme court and will do anything that we can to stop him because we're right? I mean, that's that's their rationale as lame as it is, Michael. Yeah. You're actually talking about a much bigger issue. You know, we got a culture now that allows for thirty six year old memories to destroy the character of a of a good man in judge Cavanaugh, and we have a political party, the Democrats who wet tonight this whole serious issue of sexual assault. And in the end up we end up destroying a man and destroy the issue itself. Because in the end, the sexual assault will end up meaning nothing now, we know it's. Everybody civic duty, including the Senate Judiciary committee to uncover the truth and assigned wait to one accuser says and also to defend of fellow citizens from."
