Listen: Youtube, India, Justin Bieber discussed on Sooo Many White Guys
"And so I said I'll sign this job offer under the stipulation that they gave me a year off and so pretty much found a way into a social enterprise fellowship in India. That's amazing. I was like what are you going to do? Like, I'm going take your off doing way, you're going to India, of course. So I go to India. And I kinda said I'll try this thing for nine month program, and then I'll go back to Deloitte, but gets India. It was like the worst fit possible the program itself, and I didn't feel like I was making any sort of meaningful impact. And so I really prayed about it. I was like dear God if I'm supposed to be here miserable. I'm sure there's a reason that you want me to be here. All stay. But on the off chance that I could do something else like music, wink, wink, please let me know. And like I got an Email like literally two days later on this Email account that I had set up for my YouTube account when I was in high school, and it was like, hey, we saw your cover songs. Do you want to come out to Korea for seeing competition? Like, this is it this is like divine intervention, or whatever you call it. And so it was like the sketchiest Email is just send us your passport. And that was like. Yeah. He does like number one. This is a scam. Absolutely scam. But I was so desperate. And I was so willing to just try it out that I just sent it to them. I'm like what worst case somebody hasn't? Password information, and I'm okay with that. So yeah, I send it off. I get the flight. I get on this TV show. Like like American idol meets the voice, and I get to the top five, and I've been in Crear ever since that was very long winded answer. No. That was great. I have so many follow ups because it's such an amazing story. So that's why won't you just sort of like set the landscape. So I I want to ask whenever you're doing something creative like, I do comedy active stuff. And but I always was like telling people off just be behind the scenes, like whatever I'll just be a writer, but you know, like, my family, and my friends at kind of had a sneaky suspicion that like I wanted to perform so did your parents ever think. Yeah. I know he's he's going to school. He was he's going to do consulting. But I think he really wants to do music. Was there ever? Did you guys ever have that sort of conversation or what went down there? Yeah. I mean, absolutely conversation. You know, growing up at the time. It was like American idol was like the biggest thing on TV. I really want to go to American idol. I really want to try it out. And it was a big thing because there's not a single Asia person on this show. Like, there's how you have all of America, and you don't have a single Asian person, except for William hung, representing Asians since she bang, this the most embarrassing thing to be talented, Asian Americans. And so I was like I want to do this. My parents were like, no like that's not part of this discussion. And my mom was always like you're not good enough. You're actually not good Eric. So I don't know why you keep thinking that you're going to be able to go onto this thing and make it. But I think for me, that's why YouTube became a platform an outlet for me to just try to put stuff up there and to get feedback, and it was really funny like one of my very first YouTube videos, Justin Bieber when he started out on YouTube. He he went onto one of my videos.."
